Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

’Does Hua Yusen really know, or is he just bluffing?’

Guo Dongmei was filled with shock and suspicion. She looked at Hua Yusen doubtfully.

”Well, I’ve received word that the reason the Hua family’s name has yet to be cleared is because your Guo Family has been making moves behind the scenes.” Hua Yusen’s expression was grim as he looked at Guo Dongmei. ”You know I’m not one to make baseless claims. If I’m saying this, it means I already have evidence. Furthermore, you’re in a passionate relationship with the Li family’s second son, Li Gongming. I thought you came here to break off our engagement, but your behavior tells me otherwise. You have another motive. You... are you planning to make a move on Elder Gu?”

A chill ran down Guo Dongmei’s spine. She had thought her brother had a complete grasp of the Hua family’s situation—that they were finished, with no connections or resources left. But for Hua Yusen to know about her and Li Gongming... it was clear the Hua family’s foundations were still intact.

’I was too reckless coming here. My plan to drug Gu Qingyu without anyone knowing is probably impossible now.’

”You... How did you know?” The moment the words left her mouth, Guo Dongmei realized what a stupid question she had asked. ’That was a dead giveaway!’

’How could a prominent family not have its own secret forces?’

’Back when the Guo Family was weaker than the Hua family, even we had secret assets. It goes without saying that a family with the Hua family’s deep heritage and foundation would have them too.’

”Heh, that’s a stupid question,” Hua Yusen scoffed. ”Since you’re here and I’ve already seen through your plan, you’d best not try anything. For the sake of our past engagement, you should leave now. Don’t be the one who gets sold and still helps the buyer count the money.”

”Hua Yusen, you have no right to talk to me like that.” Guo Dongmei stared blankly at him, her expression quickly turning to one of contempt. ”You know the Hua family is nothing now. You can’t compare to my Guo Family. My parents don’t approve of our marriage and want to set me up with Li Gongming, but I couldn’t let you go, so I came to see you. And what do I get? You think I’m lying to you, that I’m here to harm you. It must be because that vixen Zhao Nuanyue has seduced you! That’s why you don’t want to be with me anymore. You’re doing this on purpose.”

Guo Dongmei said this while crying, as if she had suffered some great injustice.

Hua Yusen saw that even after he’d laid everything out, Guo Dongmei was still twisting the truth and refusing to admit anything. It was a real eye-opener.

’To be this calm and composed... I really underestimated her.’

”What’s between us has nothing to do with Zhao Nuanyue. Don’t talk about her,” Hua Yusen said with a frown. ”Did you know? I started suspecting you the moment you showed up at the Dragon King Temple. Your arrival wasn’t without reason, and I also know about the situation in Jincheng City. If anything happens to Elder Gu, it will definitely be linked to you.”

Hua Yusen quickly steered the conversation back to Elder Gu, not wanting Guo Dongmei to keep talking about Zhao Nuanyue.

Between him and Guo Dongmei, even if there were no Zhao Nuanyue, there would probably be someone else. He had never considered Guo Dongmei his ideal partner. It was just that the Hua family owed the Guo Family a life-saving debt from before the Liberation. That was why, even though the Guo Family was so far beneath them, the Hua family had still agreed to the marriage.

A debt of gratitude!

But this was how the Guo Family repaid them—by stepping on the Hua family to climb higher.

”You’re protecting her?” Guo Dongmei shrieked through her tears. ”You like her! You never liked me!”

Hua Yusen felt a headache coming on. Guo Dongmei was dodging the important issues, leaving him at a loss and, at the same time, thoroughly annoyed.

”I told you this has nothing to do with Zhao Nuanyue, so stop overthinking it,” Hua Yusen said. ”The Guo Family and the Li family are very close now, which is why you can’t be near Mr. Gu. If you don’t want me to suspect you, please leave as soon as possible.”

”I came all this way from Jincheng City, through so much trouble, just to see you, and you’re kicking me out? Do you have a conscience? Do you even have a heart?” Guo Dongmei accused. ”You have to give me an explanation today. You can’t just brush me off like this.”

Guo Dongmei portrayed herself as the victim, the one who had been deceived.

”Heh, what kind of explanation do you want from me?” Hua Yusen looked at Guo Dongmei with a half-smile. ”Heh, if you keep this up, I might just take you seriously. We’ll get married, and if you divorce me after that, you’ll be a divorcée.”

At these words, Guo Dongmei’s heart skipped a beat. Her relationship with Li Gongming was going very well, but the Li family would never accept a divorced woman, not even if she had completed a mission for their sake.

”Marriage is too serious a topic. Right now, I only want to discuss you and Zhao Nuanyue,” Guo Dongmei said, latching onto the point and accusing Hua Yusen of being unfaithful and two-timing her.

Zhao Nuanyue came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl and called out to everyone, ”Time to eat.”

Guo Dongmei looked at Zhao Nuanyue, her heart filled with resentment. That pretty face made her jealous.

”You stole my man. I bet you’re happy now, aren’t you?” Guo Dongmei said aggressively to Zhao Nuanyue. ”You’re still young and pretty, you could find someone better. Why must you go after a man who’s already engaged?”

Behind them, Li Qiong and Wang Yuan broke into a cold sweat for Zhao Nuanyue. After all, this woman was Hua Yusen’s official fiancée.

Zhao Nuanyue put down the bowl in her hands and looked at Guo Dongmei. ”What’s yours, no one can take away. What’s not yours, you can’t keep even if you try. I have no opinion on your relationship, but the two of you should understand each other. So please, don’t drag others into your fight. You two should resolve the issues between you as soon as possible.”

”Oh, quite the sharp tongue, aren’t you? To do something so shameful and still act so righteous! I’ve really seen it all today.” Guo Dongmei looked coldly at Zhao Nuanyue. ”So thick-skinned. Shameless. I’ve truly seen what shamelessness is today!”

Seeing Guo Dongmei’s words become more and more outrageous, Hua Yusen felt this couldn’t be dragged out any longer. He said, ”Guo Dongmei, do you really think there’s any point in getting hung up on this?”

”Of course there’s a point. You wronged me, so of course I’ll get my revenge,” Guo Dongmei said. ”Whether it’s your mind or your reputation, I will completely ruin you and make it impossible for that little vixen to show her face around here.”

Guo Dongmei’s words left Hua Yusen flustered, but he forced himself to remain calm and said, ”So you’re determined to be relentless today. In that case, I’ll send you back to Jincheng City right now, and then we’ll break off our engagement.”

”I’m not leaving! Not until I’ve broken you two up and utterly ruined your reputations, I’m absolutely not leaving!” Guo Dongmei shrieked, glaring furiously at Hua Yusen and Zhao Nuanyue. ”I’ll never let you get away with this!”
