Counterfeit Hero

Some Leray warriors’ eyes instantly turned red. In that country tens of jump points away, they had their homes, their family and friends, their beloved women, and their life’s memories. They had always been proud of Leray’s resilience and of everything they had done.

When one Leray youth after another sang and briskly marched onto the battlefield, when they roared as they fired from the trenches, when they recklessly charged at the enemy Mecha with fusion hand grenades strapped to their bodies, the image of this country was so vibrant.

But now, all dignity and glory have turned into filth and chaos!

A group of cowards hiding in the capital, who had never set foot on the battlefield, betrayed the nation. They threw batch after batch of iron-blooded soldiers into prison, spread shameless surrender talks in the streets, cared only about their own lives and interests, and disregarded the blood-stained Leray military flag flying on the battlefield!

No one can understand the pain of those fighting bloodily at the front but betrayed from behind by their own people. Nor could anyone understand how three years of war and countless sacrifices led to such a humiliating outcome!

No one knows what’s happening in this world. Markovich and the Leray warriors didn’t know; Fatty didn’t know. In front of his eyes were only those vivid faces: Mother Ann, Ann Lei, Milan, Russell, Nia, Meiduo, those rascals from the Capital First Military Academy, Rashid, Stewart, and the warriors who fought life and death together in the first and second bandit army...

Just thinking about their current situation made Fatty’s heart burn with pain; he wished he could grow wings and fly back to Leray. If anything happened to these people, Fatty vowed that he would kill Brody and Hansford, those two complete fools, in the most brutal way!

Fatty didn’t understand why the Feiyang Republic would launch a large-scale attack on the Binart Empire at this time. This attack disrupted all the plans of various countries! It didn’t align with the interests of Feiyang itself and caught the Binart Empire off guard.

Fatty only knew that if Leray could survive this period, the situation might turn around! The focus of this war would soon shift from the Southeast to the Central region! Leray Central Star Domain must not get penetrated by the Western Alliance at this time!

Sitting in front of the computer simulation program for an entire day, Fatty knew this might be his last day to stop.

From this moment on, he couldn’t stop. He had to sprint down this path without pause, until victory or total destruction!

After walking out of the office, Fatty saw dozens of silent eyes.

”Will we fail?” Fatty raised his head.

”No!” He walked out of the corridor. The warriors silently lined up behind him, following him.

”We will win!” Walking out of the building, at Scadivow Base, countless soldiers in brand-new bandit army uniforms were hustling about.

”From here...” Fatty’s gaze leapt over the iron-strong warriors beside him, over the training ground echoing with shouts, over the warship maintenance platform in the distance, over the fiercely arguing scientists, over the workshop modifying Mecha, and towards the land in his heart: ”…towards victory.”

New Era 2063, June 12th, Feiyang Republic’s 5th Mixed Group Fleet suddenly launched an attack. Commander Admiral Qian Bolin, with a blitzkrieg, rapidly crossed the A78-A80 region of the Karsdon Star River, swiftly surrounded and annihilated the unprepared 21st and 34th fleets of the Binart Empire.

Subsequently, the Feiyang 5th Mixed Group Fleet turned north, forming a pincer attack with the Feiyang 2nd Mixed Group Fleet targeting the Noah Star System, surrounding six Eagle-class mixed fleets of the Binart Empire. Fierce battles ensued. Eighteen hours later, an Elephant-class Royal Fleet and four Lion-class fleets of the Binart Empire arrived at the Noah Star System, joining the battle. Both sides were evenly matched, and the commanders adopted a cautious approach, avoiding mistakes, making the battles intense and deadlocked.

When the two superpowers finally started their major confrontation, on June 13th, a Special Mixed Fleet of the Chuckna Republic suddenly attacked the supply fleet of the Suss Empire in the Resk Star System. After successfully ambushing, the fleet encountered the supportive fleet and escort fleet of the Suss Empire, fleeing in panic. As the Suss Empire’s fleet launched an extensive attack, attempting to block this fleeing fleet, its headquarters at Resk Canglang Star encountered an attack from sixteen Chuckna Special Mixed Fleets.

This was the largest fleet deployment and most powerful battle since the Chuckna Republic commenced the war. The sixteen Special Mixed Fleets achieved nearly three days of space control and atmospheric air supremacy. In these three days, a total of twenty-four armored divisions and nearly one hundred fully mechanized infantry divisions were sent to Canglang Star. When the Suss main fleet arrived, one-third of Canglang Star was already controlled by the Chuckna Army. From then on, the Suss Empire no longer had complete control over the Resk Star System. The fighting intensified rapidly, and Chuckna Republic’s fleet began continuously pouring into the Rex Star System, directly threatening the safety of the Southeast main channel occupied by the Suss Empire.

June 14th. The 1st Fleet and 2nd Fleet of Suss Southeast, along with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd clusters of Jiepeng Southeast Attack Special Mixed Fleet, completed assembly and pre-battle preparations, launching an attack on the jump point of Leray Central Star Domain.

Already fully prepared for battle, Leray’s 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 10th fleets tore up Brody and Hansford’s retreat orders and resolutely engaged in combat. Both sides battled fiercely for twenty hours. The combined fleet of Suss and Jiepeng suffered heavy losses under the ferocious blockade of Leray’s fleet, being forced to temporarily retreat.

On the same day, Suss and Jiepeng issued an ultimatum to the Brody regime.

On June 15th, two armored groups and six infantry groups of the Northern Commerce Alliance launched an attack on Oslo Port, belonging to the Mountain Breaker Sect. The Mountain Breaker Sect concentrated six Broken Army Camps and thousands of infantry, relying on the outskirts’ defensive positions to obstruct.

After twelve hours of intense battle, the Northern Commerce Alliance shattered an infantry group deployed in the city’s northern suburb by the Mountain Breaker Sect. Due to communication interference, the command center could not receive timely reports, resulting in a Northern Alliance armored camp and two infantry groups driving long into the northern suburbs, quickly completing the interspersed division.

Struggling under the overwhelming long-range firepower advantage of the Northern Alliance, the Mountain Breaker Sect’s defensive line finally completely collapsed. The Northern Alliance’s main force, with inside and outside cooperation, pursued the victory, surrounding and annihilating four of the six Broken Army Camps, with thousands of infantry, fewer than a hundred managing to escape Oslo.

On June 18th, after the initial attrition phase, the Northern Commerce Alliance’s main force completed the encirclement of the Absolute Kill Sect’s headquarters at Lille Port. At midnight the next day, four armored groups and seven infantry groups of the Northern Alliance launched a total offensive along the No. 9 resource highway towards the urban area.

In this battle, nearly a thousand [Far East Victory] class Military Mecha and more than a dozen [Sly Fox] electronic mecha, recently acquired from the Suss Empire, made their debut and played a decisive role.

Only equipped with old metal projectile cannons and a few mixed cannons, without energy shields, the Absolute Kill Army could not withstand the almost wasteful coverage of firepower by the Northern Alliance. Both sides battled fiercely for nearly forty-eight hours. Eventually, apart from the breakout of the chief, most of the main force of the Absolute Kill Sect was annihilated.

Due to the severe weakening of the Tai Sect in the earlier stages and the destruction of the Demon’s Eye Pirate Group worsening the situation, the Northern Alliance achieved decisive victories in successive campaigns against the two major sects, effectively becoming the dominant force in Mars Free Port.

By June 20th, the area controlled by the Northern Commerce Alliance included seventy percent of the air-port, the central commercial district of Central City, most of the East District, most of the South District, and the entire Northern Industrial Zone. In addition, they occupied five of the eight major port cities and their affiliated towns.

On the virtual map in Selwal’s office, the red representing the Northern Commerce Alliance spread like spilled red ink on rice paper.

Apart from the Bering Port and Hidden Dragon Port occupied by the always silent Longxing Association, the most disconcerting area for Selwal was Puluo Town, like a nail, stuck in the west of Central City.

.This is definitely not laziness; writing transitional chapters is the hardest for me. I’ve been repeatedly thinking over the plot and design. Even now, I’m not satisfied. I’ve scrapped at least tens of thousands of words. Originally detailed descriptions have all been glossed over in this transitional writing. After finishing, I am much relieved, no matter how it turns out.
