Counterfeit Hero

Once he made up his mind, Kubo was absolutely a ruthless and decisive person, willing to make sacrifices.

When it’s time to act, he acts. Kubo would not allow himself to make the same mistake twice. He had to resolve everything before that Fatty caused even bigger trouble.

For this, he even gave up his trip to the Galaxy Mecha Manufacturing Company. To him, even if this cooked duck flew away, it was better than letting that damn Fatty live one more second!

Returning to the Tai Sect Mecha Headquarters located at Linea Commercial Square in Central City, Kubo locked himself in his office and made four consecutive phone calls.

In the power structure of Tai Sect, the core certainly consisted of Kubo and ten elders. If they were the skeleton of Tai Sect, then on each bone was attached strong muscular tissue. That was the various forces led by the core disciples.

Determined to kill, Kubo hesitated no more. These four calls were made to the four most suitable candidates for executing the plan.

The Pirate Group Demon’s Eye, the assassin group Ghost Fox, the Bullfighter Mercenary Group, and the largest Black Society organization in Central City, the Tusk Gang.

These four organizations had intertwined relations with Tai Sect. Most of their members were outer disciples of Tai Sect. And their leaders were core members of Tai Sect. They shared interests with Tai Sect and their power structure was inseparable from Tai Sect’s cohesion and support.

On the surface, Tai Sect seemed like a platform providing interwoven forces, but in reality, calling these organizations influenced deeply by Tai Sect as its subordinate departments would not be an exaggeration. In Free Port, not only Tai Sect but other sects were largely the same.

These sects, existing for hundreds or even thousands of years, had accumulated powers unimaginable to ordinary people. In the Free World, this was their way of survival, their foundation. Under their long-term management, various consortia, enterprises, and armed forces had long been tightly bound to the sects, sharing prosperity and decline.

Once there was an issue, the sects could swiftly mobilize their associated forces to act with full force. If the strengths were comparable, it would naturally be a fierce fight to the death, and for an individual opposing them, the outcome would undoubtedly be annihilation.

To deal with Fatty, Kubo only needed to utilize Ghost Fox.

The reason for making four calls was simple and clear—he wanted the entire Phantom Stream and that Fatty to disappear together!

After hanging up the phone, Kubo closed his eyes, resting his head on the back of the chair. Now, all he needed to do was wait.

In the silent office, the old antique clock’s pendulum swung mechanically and unchanging. That monotonous sound was like the footsteps of death, advancing towards its designated prey.

Kubo’s livid face showed a trace of cruel smile. Since that Fatty had forced him into this situation, he no longer cared whether the events at the Griffin Knight Mecha Hall were exposed. Unshackled, it was now time for Phantom Stream and that Fatty to pay the price.

He didn’t believe that with his full effort, that damn Fatty could still stir up any storm!

As soon as night fell, it would be the end of Fatty and Phantom Stream!

”Curator Kubo is extremely disappointed and distressed by the current state of the Puluo Branch!” In the silent hall of the Puluo Branch, Fatty was eloquently giving a speech: ”I am appointed by the honored Curator to lead the Puluo Branch, to bring a bright future to all its members!”

Watching Fatty making a passionate inaugural speech in the center of the hall, everyone felt bewildered as if in a dream.

In the large pool of blood at Fatty’s feet lay Gandi, who had been the deputy branch director of Puluo Branch for nearly twenty years. Outside the tightly closed branch door, Monroe, the leading figure of Tai Sect’s young generation, was wailing in pain under the astonished and mocking eyes of other sects. Was this the bright future Fatty brought?

”What did I see when I got here?” The fat liar had fully immersed into his role, shaking his large head in ostensible frustration: ”Losing the top three in the Puluo Fighting Competition for six consecutive years, the enrollment rate of students decreasing year by year, the promotion rate of Mechanical Commanders below three percent, the promotion rate of Mechanical Knights below eight percent! Market share, less than twenty percent! Don’t you feel ashamed?”

All the coaches and students felt somewhat embarrassed. What Fatty said was precisely the long-standing pain points for which the Puluo Branch had been mocked and ridiculed among the various branches of Tai Sect! For an ordinary sect, such data might have been acceptable, but in Tai Sect’s current forceful expansion, these figures of Puluo Branch were really unsatisfactory.

”Who could be satisfied with such results?” Fatty continued to sound high-sounding: ”Curator Kubo is not satisfied, the elders are not satisfied, every member of Tai Sect is not satisfied!”

”What’s even more disheartening...” Fatty’s eyes were extraordinarily sharp and righteous: ”As soon as I arrived, I discovered that the honorable Tai Sect had fallen to such a degree in this branch! Several students who do not respect their supervisors, who act recklessly and arrogantly, and even a deputy branch director who bullies the weak with impunity!”

Everyone looked at each other. Although they didn’t dare to voice a rebuttal, there was a subtle feeling of wonder, since when did Tai Sect become a moral exemplar in Fatty’s words?
