I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me

Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Trust Him

Father Su glanced at Mother Su with a smile and shook his head. ”There’s no need for us to move to the military compound. Your mother and I have saved up some money recently and bought a small shop. We’re in the middle of the paperwork, and soon we’ll be busy selling all sorts of food, so it’s more convenient to live here.”

Mother Su nodded as well. ”Yes, your timing is perfect. Wanwan and Sister Zhao can take the children and go live in the military compound. I just don’t know if it’s far from the university.”

”It’s not far. I’ll just have Xiao Liu drive Wanwan to class every day.”

Lu Zhengchuan was definitely not willing to be separated from Su Wan. He had forgotten to mention it yesterday, so today he quickly listed the benefits of the military compound.

For instance, the house was spacious, there were schools inside the compound, making it convenient for the children’s education in the future. And although the military compound was a bit farther from Capital University than their current place, he now had an assigned car and could arrange for someone to drive Su Wan to class.

Of course, the most important reason was,

”If we live together, we’ll have more chances to see each other.”

Su Wan considered this. ”I can just ride my bicycle to school. How can I have a military vehicle drive me every day? Even though you’ve been promoted, there are so many leaders above you. You need to lead by example, not use public resources for private matters.”

”...Then I’ll save up some more money. Once I buy a car, it’ll be convenient.”

”Mm, there’s no hurry. It’s almost summer, and riding my bike is quite pleasant.” Su Wan knew that once he had an idea, it wasn’t easy to get him to drop it, so she decided to agree for the time being and revisit the topic come winter.

In just a few words, the two of them had settled their family matters.

Su Wan looked at Mother Su. ”Mom, you and Dad should just keep living here then. Don’t live in the shop. It’s so cramped, the air gets bad from all the steaming and cooking, and there isn’t even a back window for ventilation. It’s much more comfortable to live at home.”

”I’ve been renting this place...”

Before Su Wan could finish, Mother Su interrupted her. ”We’ll pay the rent ourselves. How could we let someone from the younger generation like you pay for it? It’s not like your father and I can’t earn our own money now.”

Knowing her mother had a bit of a strong-willed nature, Su Wan opened her mouth, then cleverly decided to go along with her.

”Okay, okay. You’re the boss, Mom. I’ll listen to you.”

”Good. Finish eating and hurry off to school. Don’t be late.”

”Okay.” Su Wan finished her last bite, stood up, and, under Lu Zhengchuan’s longing gaze, slung her satchel over her shoulder and rode her bicycle to the university.

As soon as she arrived at the university, Su Wan parked her bicycle in the bike shed. She hadn’t walked far when she saw Xu Rongrong standing in the shade of a tree.

She instinctively tried to walk around her, but Xu Rongrong walked straight up to her.

”Is there something you want?” Since she couldn’t be avoided, Su Wan looked her straight in the eye.

”Su Wan, is Lu Zhengchuan back?” Xu Rongrong stared at her face, noticing how radiant she looked. Her pregnant belly was gone. The soft, maternal aura she used to have hadn’t disappeared after giving birth; instead, it was now tinged with a hint of resilience. She hadn’t become a bitter housewife, but had gained a certain charm.

Xu Rongrong was a little disappointed. ’How come Su Wan isn’t trapped by domestic life after having children?’

After all, no matter how vibrant a woman was, once she was tied down by the drudgery of daily life, her radiance was bound to dim a little.

”Do you need something?” Su Wan was unaware of Xu Rongrong’s malicious thoughts. Even if she had known, she would have just found her arrogant. ’Everyone makes different choices and has different experiences. Who is to say which is better or worse?’

Xu Rongrong gave a delicate laugh. ”I was just asking. It seems he really is back. My grandfather wants to invite him to dinner.”

”You still haven’t given up?” Su Wan was a little surprised. She had thought that scene from six months ago would have discouraged this pampered young lady.

”Give up? You’re just married, it’s not like you can’t get a divorce. I’m not doing anything wrong. I’ll just wait for you to divorce, and then I’ll pursue him. There’s no law against that.”

It was true that there was no explicit law against it, but a normal person wouldn’t do such a thing. Clearly, Xu Rongrong’s moral compass was askew.

”Oh. In that case, you can come back after we’re divorced. Saying these things to my face right now is called undermining a military marriage. You wouldn’t want word of this getting out and not being able to show your face in public, would you?”

Su Wan strode forward. Although she had answered, she was clearly not taking the conversation seriously.

Xu Rongrong’s pride couldn’t tolerate being so blatantly disregarded.

”I see you don’t believe me.”

”I’m going to find him right now.”

”Tonight, you’ll find out whether he went or not.”

After tossing out these confident words, Xu Rongrong strode out of the university.

Su Wan stopped and looked back at her retreating figure, her brow furrowed slightly. ’What is she plotting now?’

She thought for a moment, then turned and went to a campus phone booth to call Lu Zhengchuan.

Lu Zhengchuan was at home with Second Sister-in-law Su and Aunt Zhao, looking after the children. He was holding a dictionary, preparing to think about formal names for the two kids.

When he got the call from Su Wan, he thought it was something urgent. ”Wanwan, what’s wrong? Did something happen?”

”It’s nothing major. I just ran into Xu Rongrong at the university. She said she’s going to find you, and that her grandfather wants to invite you to dinner.”

”Oh, she hasn’t shown up yet. But if she does, I’ll definitely refuse. Commander Xu may dote on her, but he’s not so unreasonable as to force me. At most, it would just be a social visit. Besides, I’m already married with children. Commander Xu has long since started treating me as just an ordinary junior.”

Lu Zhengchuan explained the relationship, then asked, ”Did she bully you?”

”No.”

”Really?” Lu Zhengchuan didn’t believe it—not because he doubted Su Wan, but because he felt Xu Rongrong’s temperament was unpredictable.

Su Wan shook her head. ”Really. This was the first time I’ve seen her in over half a year. The most she’d do is try to sow discord between us right in front of me.”

”I was just worried she might actually do something that could cause a misunderstanding, so I wanted to give you a heads-up,” Su Wan explained.

Lu Zhengchuan was pleasantly surprised and subconsciously asked, ”Wanwan, how come you trust me so much now?”

”We have children, and you took such good care of me during my pregnancy. Even a heart of stone would have softened by now. Besides... if I don’t trust you, who should I trust over an outsider?” Su Wan had indeed felt more secure after giving birth.

She used to think divorcing Lu Zhengchuan was an option, but now she felt that giving her children a stable home was more important. Besides, Lu Zhengchuan hadn’t done anything wrong. Why shouldn’t she try to trust her own husband?

’If something really does happen, that’s a problem for the future.’

”Wanwan, I won’t let you down,” Lu Zhengchuan promised happily.

”Mm, I believe you.” Su Wan laughed softly. ”I won’t keep you then, I have to get to class. Just be careful. If Xu Rongrong gives you a hard time, don’t get into a conflict with her. Just ignore her.”

”Our life is so wonderful right now, there’s no need to let her affect it,” Su Wan urged in a low voice.

”Don’t worry, Wanwan. I won’t go anywhere with her. I’ll turn down the invitation from Commander Xu’s side.”

”Okay, I’ll leave it to you.”

After hanging up, Su Wan went to class.

Not long after returning to the house, Lu Zhengchuan saw Xu Rongrong appear at the door with one of Commander Xu’s aides. She smiled brilliantly at him. ”Brother Lu, my grandfather has something urgent to discuss with you.”
