I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Going to the Hospital

But she and Lu Zhengchuan had no romantic entanglements; you could say their feelings for each other developed after they married.

But Third Brother and Yanyan were different.

She could tell that Yanyan was truly in love with Third Brother.

If it were her, she wouldn’t want to be with someone like Third Brother.

If you like someone, you pursue it. If there’s a problem, you solve it. But you like her and won’t pursue it, and when problems arise, you only want to solve them yourself, with no intention of discussing it with her. That’s a little paternalistic.

”Third Brother, I don’t like this side of you.” Su Wan couldn’t hold back any longer, frowning as she spoke. ”Either you don’t like Yanyan at all, in which case you should reject her decisively. I’m worried that you seem to reject her, but then you can’t help but be good to her. You give her hope, then claim you’re just a naturally nice person.”

”Honestly, in the past, you’d never have paid someone’s rent when sending them off, nor would you have worried about their safety.”

”You would just rationally weigh whether your efforts were worthwhile. You’d never bother with these little details.”

Her words left Su Jue speechless.

After a long moment, he looked up. ”Yes, you’re right. When you fall for someone, there are many details you can’t control.”

”And I can’t guarantee that my seemingly polite actions haven’t caused her trouble.”

Su Wan asked expectantly, ”So what are you going to do?”

”Wanwan, I’m going to move into the school dorms. There’s a phone in the dorm, so Aunt Zhao can contact me if anything happens. If that’s not enough, I’ll have Mom come to the Capital. While I’ll be at school and have to give my job selling goods at the movie theater to Shunzi and Ah Hong, doing business isn’t limited to one location. I think the alley entrance would be a good place to set up shop. We could sell things like tea eggs, steamed buns, savory pies, or even pickled vegetables.”

”These are all businesses Mom could run. The money she’d make would be much more than in the village, and she could also be here to take care of you.”

”You’re carrying twins. I’m not confident I can take good care of you. It would be better for Mom to come.”

Su Wan opened her mouth to say something.

Su Jue cut her off. ”In any case, there’s no hope for me and Xu Yan. Don’t give her any hope in the future either.”

”I won’t be seeing her anymore. I need to focus on making money.”

”As for whether Mom should come, we’ll have to wait for your test results.”

”Wanwan, don’t be willful. Pregnancy is dangerous, especially in your situation.”

”...Alright.” Su Wan thought about the premonition in her dream, where a fall would make her unable to have children. ’It’s probably related to the twins,’ she mused. ’I really do need to take good care of my body.’

Time flew by, and soon it was the day to pick up the test results.

Su Jue hired a tricycle early in the morning to take Su Wan to the hospital.

When they got to the hospital, a long line of people was waiting outside the office.

The three of them waited for a full hour before their number was called and they could go in.

”Doctor, how is my sister’s condition?”

The attending physician looked at Su Wan, then at the films, and said, ”According to what’s shown here, this young woman is indeed pregnant with twins.”

”Really?” Su Wan was pleasantly surprised. She hadn’t expected to have two babies at once.

The attending physician nodded and explained, ”Your two babies are fraternal twins.”

”The two fetuses are clearly developing at different rates. This condition is usually discovered in the middle or late stages of pregnancy, so it’s normal that you’re only finding out now.”

Su Wan was already five months along.

Her belly had started getting noticeably bigger recently.

”Doctor, are my two babies safe?” Hearing this, Su Wan couldn’t help but worry.

Perhaps it was the maternal bond, but her belly twitched, as if her two babies were greeting her. Su Wan’s heart softened even more.

’These are my children.’ 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

”Based on the current test results, we suspect an abnormal umbilical cord insertion, which is causing one of the babies to receive less blood supply and nutrition than the other.”

”If the smaller fetus’s weight is too low, it faces the risk of chronic hypoxia, oligohydramnios, or even intrauterine fetal death. Generally speaking, once the size difference between the two fetuses reaches a ratio of one-fourth, close monitoring is required.”

Su Wan’s breath caught for a moment. Her body swayed, and she nearly lost her balance.

Su Jue and Aunt Zhao immediately grabbed her, preventing her from falling.

”Doctor, my sister’s situation isn’t that serious, right? Is there a treatment plan?” Su Jue asked anxiously.

The doctor said, ”This young woman’s condition isn’t that severe at the moment, but I can’t say for sure how it will develop. All I can say is that the current difference hasn’t reached the one-fourth ratio. It’s about one-sixteenth right now.”

Su Jue was not comforted and pressed on, ”Then, Doctor, does my sister need to take any medication?”

”We don’t recommend medication right now, but we do recommend observation.”

”Because this young woman’s babies are fraternal twins, which is different from identical twins, to put it simply, if the size difference between the two babies never reaches one-fourth, then you can opt for an early delivery at the optimal time. That would be a premature C-section around thirty-six or thirty-seven weeks.”

”If the disparity becomes too large midway through, and you have to deliver before thirty-two weeks, we can only use some medication and hormones to help the fetuses’ nervous systems and lungs mature. But no one knows what condition the babies will be in when they’re born. They will definitely be weak.”

Tears streamed down Su Wan’s face uncontrollably.

”Of course, if one fetus is doing extremely poorly, you can consider a medical selective reduction. If you save only one baby, the probability of problems will be much lower.”

”This is something your family needs to consider on your own.” The doctor sighed, wrote down the test results and diagnosis, and handed them to Su Jue.

Even a grown man like Su Jue nearly stumbled. He never imagined that his sister just getting pregnant could be so difficult.

”Doctor, these options you’ve mentioned... none of them will endanger my sister’s life, right?”

Compared to the unborn children, Su Jue was naturally more concerned about the adult’s life.

”Generally speaking, her life won’t be in danger, but childbirth itself carries certain risks for women. So I can’t give you a guarantee. I can only say that we will do our best to save the mother’s life.”

”Oh, right. I recommend you have the young woman eat more seafood and fish—things high in protein. With enough nutrition, both babies can absorb what they need. High-protein foods also don’t cause as much weight gain, and the babies are less likely to have major developmental issues.”

”Also, vitamins like folic acid, calcium, and iron—she needs to take more than usual. Before, she was taking a dosage for a single pregnancy. That amount needs to be adjusted now.”

”Eat fewer sugary foods and less pasta. Also, don’t take any random Chinese herbal supplements. Before you take anything, you must come to the hospital to inform us and get checked again.”

As the doctor said all this, Su Jue took detailed notes.

”Actually...” The doctor hesitated for a moment. ”If you choose to keep only one child, it will cost less money. If you want to save both children and the mother, it will be a considerable expense.”
