Chapter 91: Chapter 88: When You’re in Trouble, You Go to ”Mom,” of Course

In the teacher’s office next to the physics lab at Jiangcheng Sixth Middle School.

Elder Chen sat before a computer, his expression serious as he reviewed the paper from the USB drive.

’The abstract is so concise... Using Lagrangian mechanics to construct an effective potential energy model, L=T-V, and introducing an equivalent centrifugal potential... this step of the derivation is incredibly precise.’

’The way it reveals the mathematical isomorphism between the macroscopic mechanical system and thermodynamic phase transitions is also beautifully done.’

’The system’s rotational speed corresponds to the temperature control parameter in thermodynamics. The evolution of the rotating pendulum’s equilibrium angle with the rotational speed perfectly matches the pattern of change in the order parameter with temperature during a phase transition.’

’And this... the competition between centrifugal potential and gravitational potential corresponds to the two core competing terms of free energy in a phase transition... Brilliant! The logic is impeccable.’

Further down was the derivation on how the eccentricity of the rotating shaft introduced a symmetry breaking, equivalent to the effect of an external field.

’He introduced bifurcation theory from nonlinear dynamics here... I can’t even find a single flaw in the expansion of the nonlinear differential equations.’

Finally, there were the application scenarios.

High-sensitivity rotational speed sensors, high-reliability threshold switches... It had immense value for engineering applications and was extremely practical.

Elder Chen leaned back in his chair and took off his reading glasses, unsure for a moment whether to laugh or cry.

’Passed in one go? I don’t even need to change a single punctuation mark or fix the formula formatting?’

He had thought he could at least nitpick some of the English grammar or professional vocabulary.

But upon closer inspection, all of Li Dong’s previous Chinglish had vanished.

’Does this kid never make the same mistake twice?’

However, although Elder Chen was a gold-medal high school physics coach who had trained countless Ossai champions, this was an academic paper intended to compete for the Qiu Prize.

What if there was some hidden flaw in its microscopic condensed matter physics theory that he hadn’t noticed?

To be safe, Elder Chen picked up his phone, zipped the paper into a file, and sent it to an old classmate to have him take a look.

Before long, the phone on his desk rang.

Elder Chen answered the phone.

”Hello?”

”Old Chen!” A hearty laugh came from the other end of the line.

”This paper you sent me, was it done by Xiaoqin? The line of thinking is beautiful!”

The speaker was Professor Cao Yuming from the Sichuan University School of Physics.

Old Cao was a well-known heavyweight in condensed matter and nonlinear dynamics circles. He was qualified enough to be a semifinal judge for the Qiu Prize.

In Old Cao’s view, the only person at Jiangcheng Sixth Middle School capable of producing a physics paper of this caliber was Qin Yan, who had made it into the national training team.

”The mathematical isomorphism is constructed so beautifully! The macroscopic and microscopic physical pictures are integrated perfectly!”

”With this paper, I’m afraid your Sixth Middle School might really be able to squeeze into the circle of the nation’s super high schools this time!”

The man on the other end was clearly well-aware of Sixth Middle School’s current situation.

Hearing his old classmate’s praise for the paper, Elder Chen couldn’t suppress a smile, but he forced himself to remain calm.

”It’s not Qin Yan. It’s another student.”

”Old Cao, just tell me if there are any problems with the paper. Does the logic hold up?”

Professor Cao Yuming on the other end was clearly stunned for a moment.

’Sixth Middle School has another expert? Looks like they’re really going to break into that circle this time.’

However, since Elder Chen didn’t say who it was, he didn’t ask further and just answered truthfully.

”None!”

”I went through the derivations twice. I really couldn’t find a single flaw.”

Hearing this, Elder Chen finally breathed a sigh of relief.

’It’s a sure thing now!’

...

「Meanwhile, at Rongcheng Seventh Middle School.」

Su Wan and Qiao Fan were sitting in front of a computer, doing the final proofreading of their paper.

A Study on the Nonlinear Dynamics of Droplet Bouncing and Pilot Waves Based on the Faraday Wave.

This was a very classic topic in the physics division of the Qiu Prize, and one that tended to produce good results.

It primarily used macroscopic droplet bouncing to simulate the pilot-wave phenomenon in quantum mechanics.

Su Wan pointed to several sections of the derivation on the screen.

”The analysis of the Faraday threshold is very precise, the modeling of the phase space trajectory in the pilot wave’s chaotic state is beautifully done, and the analogy between fluid dynamics and quantum mechanics is ingeniously combined...”

After carefully checking the formatting one last time, Su Wan saved the paper.

She turned her head to look at Qiao Fan beside her.

”Not bad! To complete a topic of this depth in just eight months is already very fast.”

”Your modeling ability and physical intuition are truly top-notch. An average graduate student might not have been able to produce a derivation this clean.”

Being praised like this by the usually strict Teacher Su, Qiao Fan actually flushed with a hint of embarrassment.

Su Wan patted Qiao Fan’s shoulder, her tone filled with confidence.

”You should still go through the special submission channel for the Asian Region. The academics there are a bit more pure.”

”With this paper, we might be able to win another medal at the Qiu Prize finals this time.”

Qiao Fan nodded heavily, his eyes burning with a yearning for the hallowed halls of academia.

But for some reason, the image of that figure who had faced a one-million-yuan prize at the Huaxuan Cup finals without batting an eye suddenly flashed through his mind.

Li Dong...

「At that very moment, in a student dorm at Jiangcheng Sixth Middle School.」

Li Dong was staring at the laptop in front of him, his eyes bloodshot.

He had just reinstalled the operating system, and then mentally reviewed the Fragment of the Calculation of Non-trivial Zero Points of the Riemann Zeta Function once more.

The more he reviewed it, the more excited he became.

If he wanted to perfectly embed the logic of the dimension-reducing Riemann Algorithm into modern computer code, there was just so much he needed to learn.

It made him feel like a child who had just found a new toy.

To understand and convert the approximate expansions in Riemann’s Manuscript, he had to tackle the residue theorem and contour integration from Complex Analysis.

He also needed to delve deep into the prime number theorem and the core method of steepest descent from Analytic Number Theory.

Just these High Tier mathematical tools were enough to overwhelm a mathematics undergraduate.

However, that wasn’t even the most critical part. After all, he was still confident in his math skills.

Computer science was the real trouble.

A scripting language like Python was fine for building a simple inventory system or scraping a webpage.

But using it to run a core algorithm that performed calculations on an astronomical scale and tested low-level resource scheduling? It was a bit lacking.

He remembered what Old Yang had said.

”The C language is the GOAT!”

He had to admit, for deeply understanding low-level memory pointer allocation and deallocation, and for mastering data structure optimization...

...C and C++ really were the GOAT.

But even that wasn’t enough. To pursue the ultimate computing power, he would even have to tackle parallel computing frameworks (like MPI or CUDA) to let multi-core CPUs or even GPU arrays share the computational load!

It was like a massive treasure vault was laid out before him. He already knew the shape of the key; he just had to forge it, and then he could glimpse the true face of the treasure.

Every breakthrough on a knowledge point, every conceived line of code logic, caused his cerebral cortex to secrete massive amounts of dopamine.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

Just as Li Dong was in a state of euphoria, there was a knock on his dorm room door.

”Li Dong, you in there? Open up!” Elder Chen’s voice came from outside.

Li Dong got up and opened the door.

Elder Chen stood outside the door with a grin, holding a printed registration confirmation form.

He had been about to tell Li Dong, ”Professor Cao has reviewed your paper. There isn’t a single flaw.”

However, before the words could leave his mouth, he was startled by Li Dong, who had just turned around.

”Whoa!” Elder Chen jumped back half a step in fright.

”What are you doing, kid? Cultivating immortality in your dorm? Why are your eyes so red? Have you lost your mind from overworking?”

Li Dong’s mind was completely filled with C++ pointers and contour integrals.

Suddenly seeing Elder Chen, he blanked for a second, but then an idea struck him.

’Huh? That’s right!’

’Jiangcheng Sixth Middle School is a top-tier super high school in the province! Isn’t this my alma mater? I’m short on computing resources right now. When I run into trouble, shouldn’t I turn to my mother?’

And so, Li Dong revealed a ”kindly” smile.

Seeing that familiar smile on Li Dong’s face, Elder Chen felt a chill run down his spine.

”Teacher Chen...”

Li Dong sidled up with a grin, his tone carrying a hint of sycophancy.

”Our Sixth Middle School’s hardware facilities must be pretty damn amazing, right?”

”Could I borrow a school computer? You know, the kind with an amazing configuration... For example, do we have something like a small server cluster equipped with high-performance computing nodes?”

Li Dong looked at Elder Chen expectantly.
