Rebuilding the Immortal Cultivator Clan

Chapter 681 - 687: Escape

”Was Big Sister already under your control a long time ago?” the Laurel Devil asked with hatred.

”Thatʼs right! Many years ago, she became one of my puppets, just to avoid arousing your vigilance, so I never consumed her.”

The Ginseng Devil frankly admitted, believing that they had no chance of escaping under these circumstances.

Before death, solving some of their doubts and letting them die with clarity could be considered fulfilling the bond they had formed over the years.

”Enough! Donʼt think I canʼt see that youʼre just stalling for time. Let me tell you, itʼs useless! Just let me consume you honestly and become part of my great journey,” the Ginseng Devil said.

No longer hesitating, it immediately started the secret technique, drawing the essence and mana through the ginseng roots within their bodies.

At the same time, the Spirit Seed given to them for communication began to grow roots from within their bodies, drilling into their flesh and blood.

You must understand, they were originally a kind of tonic with various extraordinary effects, and consuming them would bring additional benefits.

Such as the Ganoderma Devil, which would make his mana even purer and more robust; the Mist Cloud Branch could heal his internal injuries; the Laurel would make his spiritual soul even purer and more solid…

If he could consume all five Great Devils, the risk of the Ginseng Devil achieving the Fifth-order would be greatly reduced, to the point of being almost nonexistent!

It would also greatly increase its foundation, allowing it to ascend faster and more smoothly among the Devil Race of the Fifth-order! Thus, fulfilling its wish of Tribulation Transcendence sooner.

”I canʼt believe you are such a person! Even if I die, I will definitely not let you succeed!”

The youngest, the Grass Devil, shouted angrily, ”Big Sister Three, Big Brother Four, Big Sister Five, prepare yourselves. Iʼll break the restraints for you!”

”Hah? You think you can do that?” The Ginseng Devil scoffed, not believing that his least useful youngest brother could change the situation at all.

Among the many Spirit Plants it had nurtured, the youngest had the poorest growth, being only a common second-order Jade Dew Grass.

If it had not been born in a Secret Realm with abundant resources, and without its protection, it would have been impossible to break through to the Fourth-order.

And the Divine Power it had awakened was the Wood Escape, a fairly common ability amongst their kind of Devil Race.

Such a thing boasting that it could break a secret technique it had painstakingly comprehended? Truly laughable.

”Perhaps you never really paid attention to me, and do not know that after my breakthrough to the Fourth-order, I awakened another Divine Power, Spiritual Soul Transfer!”

With that said, a streak of green light flew out from its embrace, instantly transforming into another Grass Devil!

”What are you doing! Letʼs talk this out; we can negotiate!”

The Ginseng Devilʼs face changed drastically as it hurriedly said, ”I can let you go, and even give you Big Brother Three and Little Sister Five. Once youʼve refined them, you can also break through to the Fifth-order.”

During the refining process, not only were the Laurels unable to move, but the Ginseng Devil was as well!

At this moment, any Golden Core Cultivator could subdue them all! Unless the Ginseng Devil was willing to give up.

But for this plan, it had plotted for a thousand years, expending who knows how much thought and effort; how could it simply abandon it?

”Big Brother Three, get ready to escape. Donʼt worry about me; I still have a way to save myself!”

Having said that, it then burst into flames like it had been ignited, its whole body erupting with intense and dazzling Spirit Light.

Immense mana boiled inside its body, and amidst a muffled boom, like a volcanic eruption, a terrifying impact whistled towards the Ginseng Devil at the forefront.

Death loomed over it, and it could only abandon its refinement and raise a defense.

After all, everything it had done was for the sake of survival! Wanting to live longer, to live better, it naturally did not wish to die at that moment.

”Go!”

The Laurel Devilʼs eyes, blood-red, seized this lifeline bought with its life, taking the fourth and fifth siblings to speedily leave the place.

The violent explosion caused the cave they were in to collapse, and after a moment, a somewhat disheveled Ginseng Devil, with a numb expression on its face, appeared with the Ganoderma Devil from underground.

”Aaaah!”

The Ginseng Devil roared insanely, ”Jade Dew, how dare you sabotage my grand plan, sever my path! From the high heavens to the Underworld, I, Shen Zhenxian, swear to tear you to pieces, to place your spiritual soul into the Soul Illumination Lamp, to suffer the torment of burning fire day and night, forever barred from reincarnation!”

A while later, it returned to calm.

”You have the ginseng whiskers I planted inside you, donʼt think you can escape!”

But when it tried to sense them, it found it couldnʼt locate the presence of the ginseng whiskers at all, its expression changing drastically as it kept repeating, ”Impossible! This canʼt be possible! How can this be?!”

Unbeknownst to it, the three Laurel Devils were right now just tens of miles away, and the reason they had not fled further was to rid themselves of the ginseng whiskers in their bodies!

In the past, they had hidden themselves well, and thus were not discovered, but after the Ginseng Devilʼs magic was applied, everything came to light; how would they allow something that could threaten their safety at any moment to exist within their bodies?

----

Li Zhirui, who was resting in a cave dwelling within Immortal City, suddenly opened his eyes, summoning Thousand Spirits in an instant, his expression cold as he stared at the being that had unexpectedly emerged from his storage ring.

”Devil Race? Brimming with the essence of flora, are you one of the six Great Devils from the Secret Realm?” However, its current state was very bad.

”Yes, my name is Jade Dew, and I am a Jade Dew Grass turned devil.”

Li Zhirui pointed his finger, and Thousand Spirits sent down roots to completely entrap it, then he asked, ”How did you hide inside my storage ring?”

Putting together past events, he could understand that it must have happened on his way to Immortal City, when the Jade Dew Grass Devil attached itself to the Spirit Boat; but the problem was, after becoming a Devil Beast, it was considered a living being!

And as everyone knows, living beings cannot enter a storage magical device.

”At the beginning, I only attached a Spirit Seed to your Spirit Boat. I took that chance to draw those cultivatorsʼ attention to you.”

Jade Dew said weakly, ”Then, some incidents occurred, and I had to use my divine power to transfer my spiritual soul into another Spirit Seed.”

Because nurturing Spirit Seeds would delay cultivation and consume oneʼs essence, over the years it had managed to produce only three Spirit Seeds.

One was used here with Li Zhirui, to escape the pursuit of the cultivators; another for self-destruction, aiding the escape of the three Laurel Devils; the last one was placed within the Secret Realm as a final measure to save its life.

In that blast, it detonated only its physical body, not including the spiritual soul, which was how it managed to escape through divine power, though it did sustain injuries.

For instance, consecutively using divine power twice had seriously depleted its spiritual soul.

Whatʼs more critical is that this Spirit Seed was too far away to draw mana from its true body, so the current mana inside it was about as much as that of a first-order member of the Devil Race!

As for the abhorrent things done to them by the Ginseng Devil, it did not want to speak of them to outsiders.
