Armed Train in the Apocalypse

The intensity of the war did not decrease because there were a few hundred more sharpshooters; instead, it became increasingly urgent.

On the 600-kilometer front, the Pale Demons deployed over three million soldiers. Without encampments or logistics, they scattered like snowflakes, leaving Su Huan at a loss about what to do with them.

The train crew also began operating at full capacity. Professor Ma was busy improving low-temperature monitoring equipment, helping He Jie build a real-time battlefield surveillance system spanning 600 kilometers, while Yu Jing and Wan Xing were busy producing new potions, and Director Xu studied how to upgrade the potions.

The price of shortcuts is the inability to evolve naturally anymore, even for Evolvers. After using the potion, one relies permanently on the transformation potion’s evolutionary path.

However, this was not an issue for the Mao Bear People sent as cannon fodder; survival was their only priority to consider any future.

For the train too, progress needed to be accelerated; leaving the front line would make it difficult to find so many high-quality potion users.

At the northernmost end of the line, due to its isolation, there were no bunkers, only temporary snow caves and trenches. Huayang leaned against the snow wall, fiddling with the stove beside him. With his fire-starting materials exhausted, he was cautiously lighting the firewood he dug up from underground.

The firewood had been buried under the snow for over a year and was frozen solid, with cold seeping from the inside out, nearly extinguishing the fire.

However, under his careful attention, the flames finally burned normally. A trace of joy crossed his cold-hardened face, followed by his habit of cursing, ”Damn He Jie, assigned me to this godforsaken place. When I become a general, I’m sending you to raise pigs...”

”Young Hua, did you light it?”

Wen Biao popped out of a snow cave and asked.

The specialized training for the train conductor didn’t last long before Huayang was thrown into an armed squad.

Wen Biao was also placed into this squad by He Jie.

Because of his humorous and amiable nature, Huayang quickly integrated with the team, and wasn’t bothered when his teammates jokingly called him Young Hua.

Huayang wiped his face, carefully held up the stove in his hands, and proudly declared, ”Such a simple task, isn’t that a breeze for me?”

Just as he stood up, a warning sounded outside.

Before the words ”enemy attack” had faded, a shell landed ten meters away from the trench with a boom, stirring up a blizzard of snow and sand, extinguishing both the man and the stove, more effectively than water.

Wen Biao turned back into the snow cave and emerged again with two guns, tossing one to Huayang.

”Looks like we won’t be having a small feast today, don’t just stand there!”

”Dammit!” Huayang cursed in frustration.

The originally eloquent young master was thoroughly refined by He Jie into a boorish fellow.

When the two emerged, a swarm of Pale Demons was already surging across the snowy plains, some wielding vintage pitchforks, others carrying rocket launchers, a chaotic clash of civilization.

Northern Alliance soldiers under their command also emerged from various snow caves and poured into the trenches.

Starting to freely fire at the distant Pale Demons.

Huayang and his team split up, shuttling through the trenches to supervise the soldiers, with the translator’s voice particularly loud.

As Huayang walked, he checked the numbers, quickly furrowing his brow, grabbing a lieutenant wearing a white knit hat underneath a fur hat with ear flaps, ”Where are your men? Why are there so few?”

The latter looked around and quickly said, ”They must not have come out yet, I’ll go find them!”

With that, he ducked into another snow cave, with Huayang following behind.

Entering a snow cave, a strong smell of vodka hit, causing the lieutenant’s expression to change, and he cursed angrily in Northern Alliance language while kicking. The soldiers, faces flushed from the booze, groggily sat up, still not comprehending the situation.

The young lieutenant, infuriated, lifted the butt of his gun and started smashing indiscriminately, and the soldiers, noses bleeding, finally came to their senses, grabbing their guns and rushing to the trench.

Ducking into one snow cave after another, they pulled out a dozen soldiers, most of them heavily intoxicated.

Huayang frowned deeply at the sight. Though they were allied, they were neither Northern Alliance people nor officers, and rarely directly commanded the soldiers, instead managing through a few lieutenants.

It wasn’t that they didn’t want to progress further, but the time was too short, enough only to win over lieutenants, not enough to get a group of Mao Bear People to listen to Donghuang People.

After driving all soldiers to the trench, Huayang regrouped with his teammates.

Removing the translator, he cursed softly in Donghuang language, ”These Mao Bears, drinking in the snowy winter, aren’t they afraid of freezing to death!”

”They’re all like this, anyway this isn’t the main defense point, and darkness is about to fall.”

Huayang looked up at the sky. The already dim sky was growing darker.

This area was close to the polar night zone, with extremely short daylight, only about four hours, then nearly twenty hours of darkness, especially when snowing, visibility was nearly zero.

Fortunately, the snow reflected light, so a couple of lamps could illuminate a large section of the battlefield.

”Get ready to clear up the battlefield.”

A teammate patted his shoulder and said.

Huayang followed behind, using vibrations according to the teammate’s instructions to eradicate the Pale Demons emerging from the corpses.

The abilities of the two were one of perception and one of controlling vibrations, while their gunfire team had someone who could manipulate energy, also an Evolver specifically targeting the Pale Demons.

The three worked together, allowing them to control this section of the front line.

As the attacking Pale Demons were few in number, they were quickly cleared by those defending the position, with Wen Biao coming over excitedly to inform the two, ”Just received orders, reinforcements will arrive soon.”
