Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Everyone’s faces were blank as they watched the wild and frantic surgery unfold before them.

Su Huan closed one eye, half of his mind immersed in his body, the other half manipulating the electric current to hunt down the intruding spores.

Pain prompted a sound like snarling laughter to squeeze through Su Huan’s clenched teeth, his muscles dancing on his athletic body, blood gushing out, yet his heart remained icy cold.

Given his current physical constitution, as long as it’s not a bone or tendon injury, even a piercing wound would heal completely in less than three days—his only trouble is internal organ damage—but he’s betting the spores’ resistance to electricity isn’t higher than his!

Around ten seconds in, ninety percent of the spores within him had been eradicated.

With another ten seconds, only a few scattered spores remained inside, the rest wiped out by Su Huan in one sweep.

Clearly, the train conductor had gambled and won again.

Though keeping at it a bit longer could entirely clear out all the spores, Su Huan’s internal organs might get cooked before that could happen.

He had to give it up for now.

But the effects from this surgery could delay the spore outbreak for at least ten days.

By then, Su Huan believed he would have found a solution.

The thunder light dissipated, Su Huan spat out a mouthful of blood, thoroughly soaking the cloth in front of him.

Stretching out his two bloodied fingers, Lin Xia handed him the cloth, and with a flicker of lightning, the cloth instantly ignited. Su Huan opened the window and tossed it out.

Director Xu looked at the terrifying wounds on his body, stepped forward quickly, and asked urgently, ”Is it eliminated?”

Su Huan understood his implication, if this method could be used, Yu Yue and the soldiers could be saved.

But this method was too explosive, probably only he and Lin Jin could withstand it.

On the other side, Lin Jin, seeing Su Huan’s method, his eyes shifted, faint flames rising on his fingertips, but before he could act, Su Huan stopped him. ”Flames would work better, but your internal organs would definitely be cooked first, let me do it.”

Hearing this, the eager Lin Xia immediately quieted down. Although his ”Healing Fire” also had some burning capability, his control over energy was evidently not as intricate as the train conductor’s, much less capable of hunting invisible spores within the complex human body.

If he really tried to operate, even a Tier Three Guardian known for their robust life force would be beyond saving.

Lin Jin nodded, closing his eyes.

Director Xu called over a large group of people, ready to record.

Su Huan looked at the crowd, ”Any perception-type evolvers?”

A nurse, a gynecologist, and a researcher raised their hands.

Thanks to the regiment’s balanced team configuration, the service crew also greatly valued the cultivation of perception-type evolvers, so they could quickly gather a bunch.

Then they grabbed a Tier One evolver capable of sensory sharing, and Su Huan began assigning tasks, ”You three simultaneously sense the spore positions, and the other one relay the information to me. Let’s start now.”

Thunder Blade pierced through his chest, Lin Jin groaned in pain.

Su Huan suddenly remembered: Oh, forgot the anesthesia...

”Hey, what’s this, it moves?”

”Train conductor, looks like the heart...”

”Hey, don’t just sense the spores, someone give me a scan of the internal condition.”

”See how much clearer it is now.”

”Train conductor, abnormal heart rate!”

”Why panic, a jolt will fix it.”

Lin Jin’s body trembled.

Su Huan looked at the ECG and chuckled, ”Look, much steadier now, right?”

Everyone remained silent.

Though the process was somewhat twisty, the surgery succeeded, and despite vomiting several mouthfuls of blood upon standing, the combat strength... boom, the person fell.

The damage was quite severe too.

Looking at Yu Yue nearby, Su Huan hesitated briefly before skipping her and moving to the next, Lu Xiao, applying the same method.

After all had undergone the process, Su Huan’s technique had grown increasingly proficient.

He managed to preserve most of the soldiers’ combat capabilities while eradicating eighty percent of the spores, leaving only a small scorch mark on the chest.

During the final treatment of Yu Yue, he was especially careful.

After inspection, the worsening conditions of everyone were controlled, even the most severe Lu Xiao could endure over five days with inhibitors.

If a solution isn’t found by then, they’ll undergo it again.

According to Director Xu and others, with so much electricity applied several times, the spores, no matter how strong, were rendered inactive—not because they aren’t resilient, but because the evolvers are incredibly tenacious.

Most tissues can regenerate, organs can afford slight incisions and grow back over time.

If it were ordinary people, the mere lack of anesthesia would have taken them down instantly.

Su Huan had just breathed a sigh of relief when Shu Wei appeared timely and asked, ”Should we enter the Spore Zone today or rest here?”

Su Huan sneered, ”I want to find my missing soldier today!”

Shu Wei nodded, ”Got it.”

...

Three minutes later, Wen Biao led the remaining vehicles in line past the train; as each passed, the train sprayed each car with fire using its mechanical arms, then dropped a supply chest.

Once all the spores attached to the vehicle surfaces were cleansed, some were directly absorbed into the train, which sounded its whistle and rumbled toward the Spore Zone ahead.

At 1 p.m., the train, following the traces left by Miao Qi, entered a town filled with mushrooms.

The treads crushed the thick fungus carpet, creating fine, screeching sounds, while the outer walls of the three-story department store were covered in brain-like coral fungi, expanding and contracting like breaths.

Utility poles, buildings, everything in sight was threaded with mycelium, no zombies, no evolution beasts, not even mutant plants—just a variety of mushrooms. Some mushrooms were as big as buildings, filling entire rooms and breaking glass.

Some were tall and thin, with drooping caps resembling rows of streetlights.

On the train roof, Su Huan emerged first, still unprotected, but any spores nearing him were incinerated by a violent electric current.

The mysterious patterns on his bare upper body glowed faintly, his eyes like lightning, resembling an ancient deity.

Behind him, Lin Jin and the others emerged fully equipped.

Yu Yue returned swiftly, with Yu Yue, Lin Jin, and Pang Tu able to move, while Lu Xiao had only himself and Xiaoma able to move, totaling twenty-five people including four lieutenant squads.

He Jie initially wanted to join, but got pushed out by the others—this battlefield was a natural disaster, and half of He Jie’s ability hinged on guns, in such a special environment, he was even less useful than a Tier One evolver.

Lin Jin and others were wearing Guardian-2 type Power Armor.

Yu Jing and Zhou Qing had contributed to the military factory’s findings, finally concluding a power armor design after days of refinement.

The weapon system included a new melee axe, inspired by the Mirror’s armed long-handled axe, which triples in gravity augmentation upon swinging. Vice President Deng had studied for a month to create a decent replica.

Consuming the Pan-energy Crystal, the swing can double in weight, with a mechanism at the axe handle allowing for a one-hit kill effect via pre-loaded explosives, but it’s single-use.

Remaining adjustments focused on structure; the revamped power armor was slimmer, visibly tall yet hinted at a waistline, and the internal skeleton could achieve Black Kite’s joint self-locking effect, truly impressive under heavy pressure or defense.

Power Armor was fully sealed, featuring dual-layer structures, shockproof, waterproof, fireproof, and electric-proof. Even the energy source was doubled, with Pan-energy Crystals tripled, and built-in communications capable of contacting the train—this generation significantly differed from the first version.

Su Huan gazed into the distance, beyond the town’s gas station, the flat ground suddenly vanished, replaced by a massive, dense fog measuring hundreds of meters, merging with the sky, despite it being an afternoon peak in sunlight, only vague silhouettes of giant objects were visible at the edges, yet what they were remained unclear.

Yu Yue’s weak voice whispered in his ear, ”According to the map, that area used to be farmland, without any buildings, and any drone entering loses signal.”

Thunder erupted towards the sky like a waterfall cascading down before the train head, pouring into the distant fog.

Su Huan’s voice was chilling, ”Push through!”
