Chapter 317: Chapter 232: Supreme Delicacy, Six Sun Peppers_2

After serving the meat, Lu Qing walked back to the fire.

“Doctor Chen, please.”

After Lu Qing had left, the plump middle-aged man was the first to pick up a piece of rabbit meat and put it in his mouth.

Then, the next moment, his eyes widened.

He found the rabbit meat in his mouth to be crispy-skinned and tender, incredibly fragrant and the best roasted rabbit he had ever tasted in his lifetime.

“Doctor Chen, your disciple’s roasting skills are truly unparalleled in this world. This roasted rabbit is a peerless delicacy!”

...
After finishing a piece of roasted meat, the plump middle-aged man couldn’t help but exclaim.

“Hehe, you’re too kind…”

Returning to the fire, Lu Qing handed the slightly smaller plate of meat to Little Yan.

“Thank you, brother.”

Little Yan took the rabbit meat and started eating it with relish.

Lu Qing said to the girls, “Please don’t be shy, there isn’t much rabbit meat, so please help yourselves.”

The girls had been drooling over it, but out of politeness, they still demurred before finally picking up a plate of rabbit meat.

As for Ma Gu and Wei Zian, they had already picked up their own portions.

And they expertly sprinkled the red seasoning onto their meat before digging in contentedly.

“Young Master, your roasting skills are as great as ever!”

Even though Ma Gu had eaten Lu Qing’s roasted meat countless times, he was still full of admiration every time he tried it again.

“Mm-hm,” Wei Zian nodded repeatedly.

Lu Qing’s culinary skills were the best he had seen, incomparable even to the head chef at home.

Even his mother, sometimes when craving it, couldn’t help but move to another courtyard for a few days, claiming she was escaping the heat but in reality, she just wanted to freeload meals at Lu Qing’s house.

Seeing the two’s exaggerated expressions, the girls couldn’t maintain their composure any longer and started eating hungrily.

Then, naturally, a wave of exclamations followed.

Lu Qing smiled and accepted everyone’s praise, when suddenly, he felt a tug at the hem of his trousers.

Looking down, he saw Little Li gazing up at him eagerly.

“Don’t worry, Little Li, your fish is ready too.”

Because Lu Qing had roasted the rabbit first and the fish later.

The fish, therefore, took a little longer to cook.

But it was almost ready, and now it was just the right time.

After taking down the two roasted fish for Little Li, Lu Qing quickly rinsed some rice and put it in a pot with meat to simmer slowly over the fire. Then he picked up his own plate of rabbit meat and started eating leisurely.

The meat was still slightly hot in his mouth, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, juicy and full of flavor. Lu Qing took a bite and nodded to himself.

Not bad, even though it had been a while since he last roasted meat, his skills hadn’t diminished.

After finishing a mouthful of the original flavor roasted rabbit, he sprinkled some of the red seasoning on the meat and continued eating.

Even Ma Gu and Wei Zian, from time to time, added red seasoning to the remaining meat.

At this point, the girls finally noticed Lu Qing and the others’ actions.

One of the girls curiously asked, “Young Master Lu, what is this red powder, and why do you all add it to the roasted meat?”

“This is chili powder, a different kind of seasoning I devised. However, its taste is a bit peculiar. I was afraid you wouldn’t be used to it, so I didn’t add it to your meat. Look, Little Yan’s doesn’t have any,” Lu Qing explained with a smile.

“Yes, sister, the chili powder is really spicy. Little Yan doesn’t like it much,” added Little Yan, crinkling her nose as if recalling some not-so-pleasant memories.

“Chili powder?”

The girls all looked at the seasoning.

“Chili powder?” The plump middle-aged man nearby also heard Lu Qing’s words and became curious as well, “Doctor Chen, what is this chili powder?”

“That’s something Ah Qing came up with on his own, a kind of seasoning. However, it has a rather intense flavor, and I’m not too fond of it. On the other hand, Ah Qing and Zi’an quite like it,” the elder doctor explained.

“Oh, such a novelty, I must try it!”

The plump middle-aged man, being a great food enthusiast, was instantly intrigued upon hearing that such a unique seasoning existed.

Taking his half-eaten roasted rabbit, he walked over.

“Young Master Lu, may I also try this chili powder?”

“Of course, but this item is quite stimulating. I’m not sure if Senior Xu will like it.”

Lu Qing handed over the bowl of chili powder.

“Haha, Xu never enjoyed anything more in his life than trying all sorts of bizarre foods, Young Master Lu needn’t worry.”

The rotund middle-aged man imitated Lu Qing and the others’ previous actions, sprinkling chili powder onto the rabbit meat and stirring it before taking a bite.

Upon the rabbit meat entering his mouth, at first he didn’t notice anything, but after a few chews, he immediately perceived a difference.

A spicy, piercing sensation spread out from his mouth—this should have been an unpleasant experience.

Yet strangely, paired with the rabbit’s savory flavor, it actually brought him a very stimulating and exhilarating feeling.

“What a special flavor!”

With one bite of rabbit meat, the rotund middle-aged man was pleasantly surprised.

This was a novel taste he had never experienced before, but indeed, he very much liked it.

Seeing their master so impressed, the several disciples naturally became even more curious, and they too began to try it out.

After some experimentation, the three male disciples ended up liking the taste of the chili powder just like their master.

The young girl, however, turned red and gasped for breath, coughing and rushing for water to drink, looking quite disheveled.

“Dad, you tricked me, how is this tasty at all!”

After gulping down several mouthfuls of water and feeling her tongue not so numb, the girl finally caught her breath and complained to her father.

“Not at all, this is clearly very delicious!”

The rotund middle-aged man picked up another piece of rabbit meat drenched in chili powder and put it in his mouth.

Feeling the numbing spiciness and savory taste hitting the top of his head, he felt a surge of sheer delight.

The girl was left staring in astonishment at his apparent enjoyment.

She could not understand how, given the intense flavor, her father and her martial brothers could still manage to eat it.

No wonder Mr. Lu had said that this spice was special and not everyone could accept it.

Watching the nearly quarrelsome exchange between father and daughter, Lu Qing couldn’t help but chuckle.

He knew it would be like this.

People in this world seemed not to have fully explored the potential of spicy foods.

At least in Cang State, that was the case.

When cooking, people mostly used only spicy seasonings like ginger.

And his homemade chili powder, being rather spicy, naturally wasn’t for everyone.

“Young Master Lu, this chili powder of yours truly has a bizarre taste; I have never experienced it before. May I ask what it’s made from?” the rotund middle-aged man asked.

“The main ingredient is a medicinal herb I stumbled upon by chance…” Lu Qing explained.

This chili powder was something he had concocted by chance.

One time, he had taken Little Li into the mountains to collect herbs and unexpectedly found a plant called the six suns chili.

After studying it carefully, he found it remarkably similar to the chili peppers of his previous life.

However, the spiciness of the six suns chili was much more intense than that of ordinary chilies.

Moreover, it could replenish Primordial Qi, making it a very good medicinal herb.

Upon discovering the six suns chili, Lu Qing was overjoyed.

He immediately dug up a few plants and brought them home to plant in his yard.

Over the two years, the six suns chili bushes thrived; Lu Qing harvested many chilies from them.

He had also developed quite a few ways to eat them, and this chili powder was one of the results.

“To think that one could create such deliciousness from a medicinal herb, Young Master Lu, it seems you share my passion for good food,” the rotund middle-aged man said cheerfully after hearing the explanation.

“I am indeed quite interested in matters of culinary experimentation, and I often like to think up new recipes at home,” admitted Lu Qing generously.

“Hahaha, then Xu is indeed fortunate, to be able to taste such delights in such a remote place.”

The rotund middle-aged man laughed heartily.

Especially considering that he was to travel with Lu Qing and his company in the coming days, his heart grew even more joyful, feeling that this was truly the best decision he had made in years.

A single plate of barbecue was naturally insufficient for those like Lu Qing and his companions who engaged in martial arts training.

So, for the time following, Lu Qing prepared various other foods.

Each one was a delightful surprise to the rotund middle-aged man and his company, making them savor the experience immensely.

However, just as everyone was enjoying their meal inside the Mountain God Temple,

suddenly, a commotion came from outside the temple.
