Immortality by Merit and Sin Coins

Chapter 189: Chapter 112: Won’t Let Me Go?

”Of course, if you wish to take a position at the Court, the Yu Family should be able to arrange that as well. It would be a Sixth-Grade Regular Position at the very least.”

Yan Jin added, her tone filled with emotion.

This was the lofty status of an Immortal Family.

Even one who had just come of age could be granted a large county as a fief or hold a position in a Prefecture City, controlling the lives and deaths of millions.

”I don’t understand any of that. Another bowl.” Yu Sheng blinked, holding out her porcelain bowl.

”Uh...”

Yan Jin didn’t really understand either. She stood up, about to head to the kitchen.

From outside the inn, Steward Chen walked in with a strange expression on his face. ”Little Mountain God, that matter you mentioned to me earlier... it might have to be put on hold.”

”Huh?”

Yu Sheng looked over, confused. ”I can’t leave?”

Just then, Fan Qingyang stepped out from behind the steward and bowed with an apologetic look. ”Martial Aunt Yu Sheng, Master has summoned all the Yu Family’s Immortal Descendants for a meeting. He also asked me to relay a message to you.”

”...”

Yan Jin stopped in her tracks. She suddenly found the look on this Senior Fan’s face to be somewhat familiar.

She had worn the same awkward, uneasy expression when her own Master had pushed her into a similar situation.

’He’s already calling her Martial Aunt?’

’This message must be truly awful, then.’

”Master said...”

A bitter expression crossed Fan Qingyang’s face. He swallowed repeatedly, as if his mouth were parched. ”When things were good at Yongzhou Pass, you fought tooth and nail to steal opportunities from your siblings. But now that trouble has just started, you immediately want to tuck tail and run.”

”And you... you dare call yourself... a member of the Yu Family?”

After speaking, he subconsciously covered his face with his hand. He had been standing right there when Feng Yinglong got slapped earlier.

To Fan Qingyang’s surprise, the main hall was quiet.

Yu Sheng didn’t seem to be angry.

’Of course, she could tell this disciple had been forced to deliver the message.’

’Besides, were the Yu Family really all that great?’

’Who wanted to be part of the Yu Family anyway?’

And this little chick held a serious grudge.

Even now, she had not forgotten how she had stood before that group of people in that Old Woodshed, how terrified and hopeless she had felt.

From the moment Lin Shu stood in the street with a pork knuckle, blocking those luxurious carriages, she was already part of the Lin Family.

”Oh! Got it.”

Yu Sheng stood up and muttered a complaint to Yan Jin, ”He had people stop me earlier and wouldn’t even let me see what was going on. So shameless.”

”Ahem.”

Yan Jin choked.

Everyone present was a Cultivator. Fan Qingyang had obviously heard her.

”Let’s go have a look.”

Yu Sheng strode forward, unconcerned.

’Watching the drama unfold is one thing, but expecting me and Lin Shu to help them exterminate some Moon-Devouring Demon General? That’s absolutely out of the question.’

’Don’t even think about it!’

”I’ll go too.”

Just then, Lin Shu descended the stairs at a leisurely pace.

’To put it nicely, Yu Duchuan was a City Lord. In reality, he was just an adult Immortal Descendant. All Yu Sheng had to do was reveal her Cultivation, and he’d have no right to stop her from doing anything.’

’Still, there’s no harm in going to take a look.’

’It’s a good chance to check on Chang Yi.’

’The kid’s recent performance had far exceeded his expectations.’

...

Amidst the green mountains outside the City Lord’s Mansion, there was a wide, flat cliff.

However, with so many people present, it didn’t feel particularly empty.

Yu Duchuan sat in the seat of honor. To his right, seven seats were arranged. Those qualified to take a seat were all adult Immortal Descendants like him.

These eight people in total governed the one hundred and seven Earth Cities of Yongzhou Pass.

And beside this group stood numerous young men and women in Cyan Feather Robes, about forty of them.

These were all the members of the Yu Family stationed at Yongzhou Pass.

”Tsk.”

From his seat, someone shot Yu Duchuan a sidelong glance.

’He clearly wasn’t happy about Duchuan sitting in the seat of honor, putting on airs as if he called all the shots.’

’Taking a chicken feather and treating it like a Command Arrow!’

’When Uncle Qiheng told this man to go on a Demon cleansing, he wanted him to account for the deaths of Yu Qing and Yu Kui.’

’He was supposed to either capture the Moon-Devouring Demon General or kill a couple of other Demon Generals.’

’Hang up their corpses to show the might of the Yu Family.’

’It was meant as a warning to the Demons: this is the price for laying a hand on the Yu Family!’

’But look at the way Yu Duchuan is acting now. You’d think he was planning to cleanse the entire Demon Mountain and execute all several dozen Demon Generals.’

’He’d been longing for a chance to be in the spotlight, and now that he finally had it, he was trying to use it to get a leg up on the rest of us.’

’And what happens? He messes everything up and now expects us to come clean up his mess. It’s a joke.’

”...”

Yu Duchuan sat in silence, his gaze sweeping over the seats to his right.

The nine Vice Generals of the Demon-slaying Bureau had varied expressions; some looked grim and cold, while others appeared nonchalant.

Over two hundred Captains stood solemnly, and behind them were nearly a thousand new recruits and constables.

Everyone had been recalled from the Demon Mountain.

He let out a breath.

Yu Duchuan drew his gaze back and looked at the hundred or so people kneeling on the ground before him.

Their wrists were all bound, their faces gaunt. They had clearly not had any food or water.

His voice was icy. ”Vice General Xu and the Captains are all missing, yet you, his subordinates, just fled back in a panic... Who gave the order?”

Under the pressure of an adult Immortal Descendant, which was comparable to that of a Core Formation Cultivator, the constables trembled, not daring to lift their heads. A timid voice emerged from the crowd. ”I don’t know. We saw everyone else running, so we all ran too.”

The others quickly nodded in agreement, clearly unwilling to name the person responsible.

”Trying to play the ’safety in numbers’ card with me?” A vicious sneer appeared on Yu Duchuan’s lips.

He had lost all face. Rather than wait for others to mock him, he had proactively summoned this group to deny them any chance to gossip amongst themselves.

Then he would solve this problem with swift, decisive action.

This group of constables would be the first thing he used to establish his authority.

”I gave the order.”
