Mystic Eyes: My Eyes Steal the Laws of Cultivation

Chapter 586: A Name

She picked up a small fragment that had been left behind, gently turning it between her fingers.

“The shell contains practically all the energy that protected the hatchling during incubation. For months, or even years, the egg absorbed Qi from its surroundings, storing it within its structure.”

“Spiritual minerals, vital essence, growth energy, all of it remains sealed inside, waiting for the right moment.”

She looked back at the serpent, which continued chewing diligently.

“Eating the shell speeds up the strengthening of the body during the first few days, providing essential nutrients that would be difficult to obtain otherwise. It’s an efficient way to recover the energy spent during birth.”

Kyrian watched the little creature chew with an almost meditative concentration. Every tiny piece was crushed effortlessly, its jaws working with an efficiency that seemed programmed into its DNA.

“Interesting… I’ve never seen that before.”

“Most people haven’t. Only those who live alongside spiritual beasts from the moment they’re born have the opportunity to witness this process.”

Gao Ziyue remained silent for a moment, her gaze fixed on the little beast. There was a different light in her eyes, something almost maternal, a tenderness that transcended ordinary admiration.

She followed every bite, every movement, as if she wanted to memorize all those tiny details, as though every gesture the creature made was a treasure to be preserved.

Kyrian noticed it, the way her expression changed, the way her heart seemed more open, more vulnerable. It was curious. The Heir of Heaven, the woman who carried the weight of an entire family, the cultivator admired by countless people, at that moment looked like nothing more than a young woman happily watching a small animal eat.

A faint smile appeared on his face, a smile meant more for himself than for her.

It was precisely then that he noticed something else. Gao Ziyue had completely stopped paying attention to the creature. Her expression had changed, her brows slightly furrowed, her eyes showing intense concentration, as though she were facing an extremely complicated problem.

Kyrian discreetly glanced around. Everything seemed normal. The table, the cups, the serpent continuing its meal. Nothing unusual was happening. He looked back at Gao Ziyue, his voice low.

“What is it?”

She didn’t answer immediately, continuing to watch the little creature with that thoughtful expression. After a few seconds, she took a deep breath, as though preparing to announce something of great importance.

“We have a problem.”

Kyrian blinked, confused.

“A problem?”

She nodded with complete seriousness.

“A very important problem.”

He became genuinely curious, leaning forward slightly.

“What happened?”

She slowly turned her face toward him, her expression so serious that it seemed she was about to announce an imminent catastrophe.

“We need to choose a name for her.”

Kyrian blinked several times, processing the information. For a moment, he had truly believed that something serious had happened. Gao Ziyue’s solemn expression made it seem as though the little creature had some problem with her bloodline, or that she had noticed something concerning about her birth, or that some ancient curse weighed upon her.

But it was only that. A name.

He couldn’t help a small smile, one that escaped before he could stop it.

“That was it?”

Gao Ziyue nodded immediately, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world, as though he had just asked whether water was wet.

“Of course that was it.”

Her tone was firm, almost offended by the lack of importance Kyrian seemed to give the matter. Her eyes shone with a conviction that allowed no argument.

“A name stays with someone for their entire life. It’s not just a collection of sounds, a way to call someone. It’s an identity. It’s the very first thing that defines who we are.”

She looked back at the little creature, who continued diligently chewing on a piece of the eggshell, completely unaware of the discussion taking place above her head.

“Especially for a spiritual beast. Some develop an extremely high level of consciousness, almost human. Others even learn to cultivate, understand human language, and eventually take on humanoid forms after thousands of years of cultivation. A name becomes part of their very identity, an anchor for their consciousness.”

Kyrian listened attentively, recognizing the wisdom in her words. It was knowledge he did not possess, a perspective he had never considered.

Gao Ziyue smiled gently, her gaze returning to the creature.

“Besides…” She gently stroked the little serpent’s head as it continued eating, her fingers tracing soft patterns over its scales.

“We were the first faces she saw when she was born. The first voices she heard, the first touch she felt. To her, we’re the center of her world now.”

Her voice became even softer, almost a whisper.

“We’re… like her p-parents.”

The moment the words left her lips, Gao Ziyue froze completely, as though an immobilization technique had been cast on her.

‘Parents?’

Her brain seemed to take an entire moment to understand what she had just said, as though the words had traveled along a winding path before reaching her consciousness.

The next instant, an intense warmth rose up her neck, spreading like liquid fire. Her cheeks turned completely red, and even the tips of her ears took on a rosy hue.

She quickly turned her face away, unable to look at Kyrian, her eyes fixed on nothing while her mind spun in turmoil.

“I-I meant…” She tried to explain, the words stumbling over one another.

“I meant that we’re like… like guardians… like her first caretakers…”

But the words simply refused to come out properly, each attempt only making the situation worse. In the end, she gave up, her voice fading into an inaudible murmur.

She remained staring at the enormous window of the room, pretending to pay attention to the auction continuing below while desperately trying to calm her own heart, which pounded like a drum inside her chest.

‘Why did I say that…?’ The thought echoed through her mind.

‘Parents… How embarrassing…’

Kyrian remained silent, watching her reaction with a calmness that contrasted sharply with the storm raging inside her. He genuinely hadn’t interpreted the sentence the same way Gao Ziyue had. In his mind, she simply meant that the two of them had witnessed the little beast’s birth together and would be responsible for raising her, guiding her through her first days.

It seemed like a perfectly natural comparison, an acknowledgment of their shared responsibility.

So he answered calmly, his voice neutral and understanding.

“That makes sense.”

The simple, straightforward reply made Gao Ziyue feel even more embarrassed, her cheeks burning even hotter. She closed her eyes for a moment, wishing the ground would open up and swallow her whole.

‘… He didn’t even notice…’ The thought came with a mixture of relief and something else, something she didn’t want to examine too closely.

At the same time, she felt a small sense of relief. If he hadn’t noticed her flustered state, then perhaps she could simply move on, pretend that nothing had happened.

She took a deep breath, calming her heart. She needed to change the subject, quickly.
