King of the Wilderness

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Saving Aliya

Her voice was happily surprised, happy that he knew he was going to be a father and rushed to her side immediately.

The guilt and self-reproach from Lin Yu’an’s past life, the fortune and regained ecstasy in this life, all complex emotions erupted like a volcano in his heart at this moment!

Unable to control himself anymore, he rushed forward in a few steps, using all his strength to open his arms and hold her tightly and fiercely in his embrace!

He could clearly feel the softness of her body, the familiar warmth, and the scent between her strands of hair that he had missed for years, all of which were his eternal pain from the past life!

”Aliya... Aliya... so good... you’re okay... so good...”

His voice choked, full of the fortunate feeling of getting back what was lost and deep-seated fear! He buried his face deep in her neck nook, greedily breathing the scent from his memory.

Feeling Lin Yu’an’s embrace and those ambiguous words, Aliya was completely perplexed for a moment.

She didn’t understand what happened to Lin Yu’an, assuming he was emotionally stirred because he knew he was going to be a father.

Just as he tightly embraced Aliya, feeling her real temperature, his heart was filled with mixed emotions.

”Bang! Bang bang!”

The dull and continuous gunshots exploded like thunder in the supermarket! Immediately followed by the sound of shattering glass and people’s terrified screams!

Hearing the gunshots, Lin Yu’an’s body stiffened suddenly.

Here comes! That damn lunatic!

”Aliya, be careful!”

After hearing the gunshots, Lin Yu’an almost reflexively turned Aliya’s body towards himself.

He completely blocked the direction from which the gunshots came with his back, using another hand to hold her shoulder, bringing her to lie down behind a shelf filled with large packs of diapers.

At the moment of lying down, he instinctively turned his head, only to see a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt holding a modified AR-15 automatic rifle rushing in from the supermarket entrance!

Starting to frantically shoot at the crowd! The cozy mother-baby supermarket instantly turned into Human World Purgatory!

Lin Yu’an saw that face, although masked, turning to dust, he would still recognize him!

The last time he saw this face was at the courtroom trial in his past life.

In his previous life, when Lin Yu’an received the call, he immediately rushed to the police station.

In the cold morgue, he only saw Aliya’s face as pale as paper.

Also, her abdomen, like a silent tombstone, pressed him so hard he couldn’t breathe!

Lin Yu’an had been ready to take on the responsibilities of a father, but this damn murderer ruthlessly took away everything!

He placed all the blame on himself! If at that time he had been with Aliya, maybe... maybe everything would have been different!

Guilt, self-reproach, sadness, like maggots crawling on bones, constantly gnawed at his heart!

Time tormented in numbness and pain.

During this time, he met Aliya’s family for the first time; her family was shocked to learn from the police that Aliya had been married before she died!

Although they knew of Lin Yu’an’s existence, they were completely unaware of the marriage between the two young people.

But when they learned of the grief of Aliya’s husband, they rushed over and offered him comfort.

Her father, Robert, like a resolute Texan Red Oak, had a face filled with sadness, and her four mothers also had reddened eyes, holding back tears over their daughter.

And her four tall and strong brothers, Wyatt, Garrett, Bo, Kley, clenched their fists, their eyes filled with anger and sorrow.

They were a Mormon family, although they practiced polygamy, they paid special attention to family members.

While comforting Lin Yu’an, they eagerly wanted to know what Aliya had gone through in the past few months!

Several months later, the lunatic who took away everything finally stood on the defendant’s stand.

That was the first time Lin Yu’an saw this lunatic! He also learned his real name—Derek!

Lin Yu’an will always remember the demon hidden behind that honest face!

All the families of the victims were waiting for the justice trial, hoping that the demon would pay the price of life!

But because of the defendant’s lawyer’s argument, the lunatic had intermittent mental disorders, so the ”insanity at the time of crime” condition met the exemption from criminal responsibility.

Eventually, the judge ruled that the killer was proven to ”possibly have a mental illness,” then he needed treatment and would be sent to the United States’ most horrible Elizabeth Mental Hospital for treatment.

Not allowed to leave, not even seeing his parents, until all the hospital’s attending doctors confirmed he was completely recovered!

”Go to a mental hospital for treatment? Not death penalty?”

”Why! He took so many lives, destroyed our family, yet he only needs to survive in a hospital?”

”It’s not fair! This isn’t fair!”

”Texas hasn’t abolished the death penalty! Why not sentence him to death!”

Lin Yu’an heard the shrill cries of the victim’s family, and anger immediately filled the courtroom.

Just as the courtroom was in chaos due to the ruling result, and court marshals tried to maintain order, an uncontrollable fury completely devoured Lin Yu’an’s rationality!

Tightly held in his pocket was an ordinary pen that could be brought into the courtroom, and it was his weapon for revenge.

He squeezed through the crowded crowd, suddenly leaped from the back row of the audience bench, and regardless charged towards that expressionless lunatic at the defendant’s stand!

He roared angrily, his voice hoarse: ”Die, you bastard!”

Using all his strength, he stabbed the pen in his hand fiercely towards the killer’s head, only to be pinned to the ground by the responding court marshals.

The enormous force restrained him, making his body immobile; he turned his head, in his blurry vision, saw all the families of victims had lost control and rushed over!

That lunatic was dragged down from the defendant’s stand, and a rain of fists hit him heavily on the body, head, making dull sounds.

Accompanied by the pulling sounds of court marshals, the entire courtroom fell into chaos.

Finally, everything calmed down.

The killer became a vegetable due to multiple injuries and cerebral hemorrhage.

And Lin Yu’an, because he was the first instigator, for contempt of court and violent assault in court, was sentenced for ”second-degree murder”.

But because of police testimony about his suicide, mental collapse, and other behaviors, the defense argued for insanity at the time of the crime, thus exempted from criminal responsibility.

And under the backlash of public opinion supported by collective victim families, he was sentenced exempted from criminal responsibility.

Immediately sent for treatment at the mental center for 3 months, then deported, banned from entering the United States for 10 years.

Afterward, Lin Yu’an annually smuggled from Canada to Montana only to memorialize Aliya.

Each time her four brothers would help cover for him, but his life forever lost a piece of color, everyone advised him to move on quickly.

Aliya’s brother asked him drunkenly once: ”Aliya has already left, you’ve had so many girlfriends over the years, why not choose one to marry and continue your life?”

Lin Yu’an had thought about this question more than once, and maybe there has been an important place in his heart occupied firmly by guilt.

Guilt made him unable to forgive himself, unable to forgive why he wasn’t by her side back then.

He looked at Aliya’s brothers and answered: ”I can’t beat it.”
