Lust System: Conquering the World Beauties

For several seconds after the voice disappeared, nobody moved.

The single word it had spoken continued to hang over the battlefield like an invisible weight.

Oh.

That was all.

No explanation followed.

No congratulations.

No new creature appeared from beneath the ground.

Nothing.

The silence that followed was almost more unsettling than the battles they had just survived.

Liam stood with one hand resting against his injured side, his fingers pressing lightly against the fabric covering the wound Irina had frozen earlier. His breathing was steady, though every now and then a faint crease appeared between his brows whenever the pain sharpened. Around him, the others were still trying to understand what had just happened.

They had broken the battlefield.

At least, that was what it looked like.

The creatures that had been attacking them were gone. The strange shifting landscape had finally stopped changing. The ground beneath their feet remained still, and the unnatural wind that had constantly swept through the region had died away.

Then something appeared in the distance.

At first it looked like a thin black line against the horizon.

Agatha noticed it first.

”What is that?”

Everyone turned.

The line began growing.

The ground beneath it seemed to move as something enormous pushed itself upward from beneath the earth. Stone rose into the sky, forming two enormous pillars that stretched higher and higher until they disappeared into the clouds. Between them, a gigantic gate slowly took shape.

It was enormous.

Far larger than anything the group had seen since entering the region.

Its surface was made from a dark material that looked almost like polished obsidian, covered with strange symbols that glowed faintly in a color none of them could quite identify. The two doors were so tall that even the mountains around them seemed small in comparison.

A collective silence followed.

Leonid slowly lowered his sword.

”Is that...”

”The exit?” Irina finished.

Mary stared at it with wide eyes.

”That has to be it.”

Gregor let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.

”Finally.”

Even Agatha looked relieved.

After everything they had endured, the sight of the gate felt almost unreal.

They had crossed the mountains.

They had survived the Gargoyles.

They had endured the guardian’s challenge.

They had fought through the battlefield.

They had solved the loop.

And now there was a gate waiting for them.

An actual destination.

Tatiana turned toward Liam.

Her expression softened.

”We did it.”

Liam looked at her.

For a moment, he almost smiled.

Almost.

There was something about the gate that bothered him.

He couldn’t explain what it was.

Nothing looked wrong.

That was precisely the problem.

Everything looked too perfect.

The gate stood silently in the distance as though it had been waiting for them the entire time. There was no monster guarding it. No trap was visible. No strange energy surrounded it.

It simply existed.

Liam’s eyes narrowed.

”Wait.”

The others stopped.

Tatiana immediately looked back.

”What?”

Liam didn’t answer.

He was staring at the gate.

Then his eyes slowly moved across the battlefield.

The others followed his gaze.

There was nothing.

No creatures.

No bodies.

No broken remains.

No traces of the enemies they had fought.

Liam’s eyebrows slowly drew together.

”Where did they go?”

Nobody answered.

Leonid looked around.

”The creatures?”

”Yeah.”

Leonid glanced toward the battlefield.

”They disappeared.”

”I know.”

Liam’s voice was quieter now.

”That’s what doesn’t make sense.”

Tatiana frowned.

”They were already disappearing after we broke the loop.”

”Not like this.”

Liam walked forward several steps.

His boots pressed against the ground.

He looked down.

There were no footprints.

His eyes moved toward the place where Tatiana had destroyed the first creature’s core.

Nothing.

Not even a crater.

He looked toward the location where Leonid had been surrounded.

Nothing.

Then he looked toward the place where Irina had created her mirrors.

Nothing.

The ice was gone.

The vines were gone.

The broken terrain was gone.

Everything they had done had disappeared.

Liam slowly turned around.

The battlefield was completely clean.

It looked untouched.

As if nobody had ever fought there.

As if they had never even entered.

Tatiana walked toward him.

”Liam?”

He didn’t respond.

His eyes were moving rapidly now.

His mind was reconstructing everything.

The first creature.

The second.

The endless waves.

The way they adapted.

The way the battlefield changed.

The way their own actions seemed to become weaknesses.

The wording.

The memories.

The loop.

Then the sudden disappearance.

Liam’s eyes widened.

”No.”

Leonid looked at him.

”What?”

Liam slowly shook his head.

”That can’t be.”

Agatha stepped closer.

”What did you realize?”

Liam looked at the empty battlefield.

”They weren’t real.”

Nobody understood.

”What do you mean?” Mary asked.

Liam swallowed.

”The creatures.”

He pointed toward the empty ground.

”They were never real.”

The group stared at him.

For a moment, nobody reacted.

Then Irina frowned.

”That’s impossible.”

”I know.”

”No,” Irina said more firmly. ”I mean that’s actually impossible. They attacked us. We felt them.”

Liam nodded.

”I know.”

”I was injured.”

”So was I.”

Leonid looked down at his body.

He remembered the Gargoyle before this trial. That injury had been real. But the creatures inside this battlefield had also hurt him. He had felt their claws. He had felt the impact of their attacks.

”Then how could they not be real?”

Liam slowly turned toward him.

”Because the battlefield never needed real creatures.”

Leonid stared at him.

Liam’s mind was moving faster now.

”Think about it. Every time we fought, they changed according to what we did. They didn’t simply become stronger. They became more appropriate.”

Tatiana’s eyes narrowed.

”The battlefield was responding to us.”

”Exactly.”

Liam looked toward the ground.

”It wasn’t creating enemies and then making them stronger.”

He paused.

”It was creating enemies from us.”

The words hit everyone differently.

Agatha’s face slowly lost its color.

Mary’s eyes widened.

Gregor stared at Liam.

Irina remained completely still.

Liam continued.

”Every time one of us made a decision, the battlefield used that decision to create something.”

He pointed toward the area where Tatiana had fought.

”Tatiana chose strength.”

Then toward Leonid.

”Leonid chose speed.”

Then Irina.

”Irina chose ice.”

Then the witches.

”You chose offensive magic.”

He looked around the empty battlefield.

”And the battlefield gave those choices a body.”

Silence.

Nobody spoke.

The implications were becoming clearer by the second.

The creatures had never been independent enemies.

They had been manifestations.

Manifestations created from the choices the group themselves made.

The more they fought, the more they fed the battlefield.

The more predictable they became, the more the battlefield understood them.

Liam slowly exhaled.

”That’s why they kept adapting.”

Leonid’s expression became serious.

”They weren’t learning us.”

”No.”

Liam shook his head.

”We were teaching them.”

A chill ran through Tatiana.

She looked around the battlefield again.

”So every creature...”

”Was us,” Liam finished.

The words were quiet.

But they felt heavier than anything else he had said.

Irina slowly looked at her hands.

”Then the injuries...”

”They were real.”

”And the exhaustion?”

”Real.”

Leonid looked toward the empty battlefield.

”The fear?”

Liam nodded.

”Real too.”

Nobody spoke for several seconds.

That was the disturbing part.

The trial had never needed to create fake pain.

It had only needed to manipulate their perception.

Their bodies had reacted to the manifestations as though they were physical enemies. Their minds had believed the danger. Their instincts had responded.

The battlefield had turned their own decisions against them.

Agatha slowly looked toward Liam.

”So what was the actual test?”

Liam didn’t answer immediately.

His gaze shifted toward the enormous gate.

The realization had not finished.

Something else was wrong.

The gate.

He stared at it.

Then his expression slowly changed.

”No.”

Tatiana noticed immediately.

”What now?”

Liam pointed toward the gate.

”That’s not the exit.”

The others stared.

Leonid frowned.

”How can you know that?”

”Because the challenge isn’t over.”

He began walking toward the gate.

Everyone followed.

Liam stopped after several steps.

He turned around.

The battlefield was still empty.

The gate remained in front of them.

And suddenly he remembered something.

The first time they had reached the edge of the battlefield, the landscape had reset.

The second time, it had reset.

Every attempt to progress had caused them to return.

They had assumed the battlefield was looping because the creatures were forcing them back.

But now there were no creatures.

There was no battlefield trying to stop them.

Yet the gate had appeared anyway.

Liam stared at it.

Then he whispered.

”We broke the wrong loop.”

Tatiana’s expression changed.

”What?”

Liam slowly looked back toward the others.

”The battlefield had two loops.”

Everyone became silent.

”The first loop was combat. Every time we fought the same way, it remembered us and adapted. We broke that by doing something it couldn’t predict.”

He pointed toward the gate.

”But that was only the surface.”

His eyes narrowed.

”The real loop is the journey itself.”

Leonid slowly understood.

”You mean...”

”We keep thinking we’re supposed to reach the other side.”

Liam’s voice became colder.

”That’s the premise they gave us.”

Agatha’s eyes widened.

”Reach the other side.”

Liam nodded.

”Exactly.”

He looked at the enormous gate.

”The moment we see that gate, what do we naturally want to do?”

Irina answered quietly.

”Walk through it.”

Liam smiled faintly.

”That’s what the trial wants.”

Nobody moved.

Liam looked at the gate for another long moment.

Then he turned around.

He began walking in the opposite direction.

Tatiana stared after him.

”Liam?”

He didn’t stop.

”Where are you going?”

”I’m going back.”

Leonid frowned.

”Back where?”

Liam continued walking until he reached the center of the battlefield.

Then he stopped.

He looked down.

This was the exact place where the first creature had appeared.

He remembered it clearly.

The first attack.

The first decision.

The first time they had reacted.

The beginning of everything.

Liam slowly sat down.

The others stared at him.

Irina looked at Tatiana.

Tatiana looked at Leonid.

Nobody understood what he was doing.

Liam leaned backward slightly, supporting himself with one hand while keeping the other pressed against his injured side.

Then he looked at them.

”We’re not supposed to leave.”

Leonid stared.

”What?”

Liam pointed toward the gate.

”That’s what it wants us to do.”

He pointed toward the empty battlefield.

”We’ve been trying to reach the other side this entire time.”

His eyes hardened.

”But the challenge never actually said we had to leave.”

Agatha’s face slowly changed.

Liam continued.

”It told us to reach the other side before the battlefield remembers us.”

He paused.

”We assumed the other side meant the gate.”

His gaze moved toward the horizon.

”But what if it doesn’t?”

Nobody spoke.

Liam looked down at the ground beneath him.

”What if the other side isn’t a place?”

Tatiana’s eyes widened.

”What is it then?”

Liam smiled.

”A decision.”

The words settled over everyone.

Liam slowly stood.

”The battlefield wanted us to keep moving forward because moving forward meant continuing the trial. Fighting meant feeding it. Repeating ourselves meant feeding it. Trying to escape meant feeding it.”

He looked toward the gate.

”And the moment we finally solved the combat loop, it gave us exactly what we wanted.”

The enormous gate stood silently in the distance.

”An exit.”

Liam’s expression became serious.

”Because it knew we’d take it.”

Leonid stared at the gate.

”So if we walk through...”

”We start again.”

The realization hit them all at once.

The gate wasn’t freedom.

It was a reset.

The beginning disguised as the end.

A perfect loop.

They would walk through believing they had won, only to find themselves at the beginning again.

The same battlefield.

The same challenge.

The same decisions.

The same enemies.

Forever.

Irina’s face became pale.

”That’s insane.”

Liam nodded.

”It is.”

Agatha slowly looked around.

”Then what do we do?”

Liam sat back down.

”Nothing.”

Everyone stared at him.

He shrugged.

”We stop.”

Tatiana walked toward him.

”Stop what?”

”Everything.”

He pointed toward the battlefield.

”No more fighting.”

Then toward the gate.

”No leaving.”

Then toward the empty sky.

”No searching for the guardian.”

He looked at each of them.

”We simply refuse to play.”

For a moment, nobody seemed to know what to do.

Then Tatiana walked over and sat beside him.

”If that’s what you think we should do, then I’m staying.”

Leonid laughed softly.

”I suppose I’ve already died once in this place. I can afford to sit down.”

Irina rolled her eyes.

”You people are ridiculous.”

But she sat down too.

Agatha exchanged a look with Mary and Gregor.

One by one, they followed.

Soon the entire group was sitting in the middle of the battlefield.

Nobody was fighting.

Nobody was walking toward the gate.

Nobody was trying to solve anything.

They were simply refusing to participate.

At first, nothing happened.

The gate remained.

The sky remained.

The battlefield remained.

Seconds passed.

Then a faint crack appeared in the distance.

Liam’s eyes opened.

Crack.

Another followed.

This time, the sound came from above.

Everyone looked up.

A thin fracture had appeared across the sky.

It looked exactly like a crack in glass.

Irina slowly stood.

”What is that?”

Liam didn’t answer.

Another crack appeared.

Then another.

The entire sky began fracturing.

The clouds split apart.

The light behind them distorted.

The mountains trembled.

A deep rumble moved through the ground beneath them.

The enormous gate in the distance suddenly developed a crack across its surface.

Tatiana stood.

”Liam.”

”I see it.”

The ground shook harder.

Stone began collapsing from the mountains.

But there was no impact.

The falling pieces simply disappeared before reaching the ground.

The battlefield itself was coming apart.

The creatures never returned.

There was no final enemy.

No final attack.

No guardian descending from the sky.

The trial was simply losing its ability to exist.

Because there was nothing left for it to react to.

Nothing left to remember.

Nothing left to test.

Liam slowly stood.

”The challenge needed us to believe we had to win.”

He looked around as the battlefield continued collapsing.

”But the moment we stopped trying to win...”

He smiled.

”...there was nothing left for it to do.”

The ground beneath them vanished.

The mountains shattered into fragments of light.

The black sky broke apart like an enormous mirror.

The gate cracked down the middle.

Then it collapsed.

Not inward.

Not outward.

It simply ceased to exist.

For a brief moment, the entire world became white.

Everyone stood frozen.

There was no wind.

No ground.

No mountains.

No creatures.

Nothing.

Then a voice finally came.

Not from above.

Not from below.

Not from somewhere in the distance.

It came from everywhere.

For the first time, there was no distortion in it.

No echo.

No illusion.

It sounded clear.

Ancient.

Calm.

And genuinely surprised.

”Oh.”

Everyone froze.

Liam’s eyes narrowed.

The voice continued.

”You actually found the loop.”

Silence.

Liam stared into the empty white space.

The others looked around, desperately searching for the source.

But there was nothing to see.

Only the voice.

”You were never meant to defeat the battlefield.”

A pause.

”You were meant to understand it.”

Liam’s expression became serious.

The voice continued.

”And yet you went further.”

Another pause.

”You understood the journey itself.”

Liam slowly smiled.

”So we passed.”

For several seconds, there was no answer.

Then the voice spoke again.

”Yes.”
