Primordial Heir: Nine Stars

After watching the peaceful rise and fall of Khione’s breathing for a long while, Nero carefully slipped away. The quiet of the night called to him, but not for sleep. He needed to move forward, to get stronger. He made his way to the secluded back mountain area of the estate, a place of stillness he often used for deep training.

He unrolled a simple mat on the cool grass and sat cross-legged, closing his eyes. He took a deep breath, filling his lungs with the crisp, vibrant night air, holding it for a moment before slowly letting it out. With the next inhale, he began his specialized breathing technique. The abundant prana in the environment stirred, drawn toward him like iron to a magnet. He guided this raw energy into his primary core, where it was churned and purified into a brilliant, concentrated essence. A portion of this purified power was then carefully siphoned off and channeled downward, into the second, smaller core nestled within his heart.

But tonight’s main task was not storage. It was refinement. A brutal, internal upgrade.

Previously, he had used the searing, transformative power of his Law of Fire to temper the very structure of his body. He had methodically ”cooked” and reforged most of the bones in his lower body and torso, making them denser, more resilient, capable of channeling immense power without shattering. Only the bones of his upper body—his ribs, collar bones, arms, and skull—remained in their original, weaker state.

Now, with the Law of Lightning at his command, he could take the process further. Fire had been about melting and reshaping. Lightning would be about charging and energizing, about weaving speed and conductive potential directly into his skeletal matrix.

He began with the already-refined bones of his legs and pelvis, wanting to test and strengthen the foundation first. Focusing inward, he summoned not a blast, but the barest whisper of the golden lightning from his second core. He directed this tiny, controlled current inside his own femur. At the same moment, he called upon a thread of his crimson Fire.

The combination was agony.

It felt like someone had inserted a white-hot wire into the center of his bone and was simultaneously pumping a high-voltage electrical current through it. His entire leg seized. A strangled gasp tried to escape his lips, but he clamped his jaw shut, biting down until his teeth ached. He did not cry out. He did not utter a single word.

He held the combination, his entire body trembling with the strain. The Fire softened the bone structure at a microscopic level, while the Lightning coursed through it, etching pathways of incredible conductivity and reinforcing the lattice with its own vibrant energy. It was like forging a legendary sword by quenching it not in water, but in a storm.

Sweat poured from his body, soaking his clothes and the mat beneath him in minutes. His muscles knotted and quivered. The pain was a living thing, a dragon trying to consume him from the inside out. But he endured. He focused on his breathing, on the goal, on the image of needing to be strong enough to protect what mattered.

For six hours, he worked. He moved the torturous process from bone to bone. Femur, tibia, fibula, the complex bones of the foot and pelvis. Each one was a marathon of suffering. When he finally finished with his lower body, he didn’t stop. He began the long, grueling climb upward, starting on the bones of his lower spine.

The world outside ceased to exist. There was only the cycle of breath, the summoning of twin elemental forces, and the white-hot crucible of pain. Nero was a shivering, sweat-drenched wreck. But he had done it. He had spent six hours in a self-inflicted hell, reforging the foundation of his body into something tougher, faster, and more capable of channeling his impossible power.

He finally released his focus. The Fire and Lightning vanished from within him, leaving behind a deep, resonant ache and a profound, humming strength in his bones. He slumped forward, catching himself on his hands, breathing in ragged, grateful gasps of the cool morning air. He had not made a sound throughout the entire ordeal. The only evidence of his struggle was his exhausted body and the steely, unwavering resolve that now burned even brighter in his ominous red eyes.

The deep, bone-deep ache from his refinement session was still there, a constant, throbbing reminder of the pain he had just endured. But Nero didn’t go to rest. He went to push his new limits. He walked to a special, isolated training chamber deep within the Leclair estate—a room enchanted to multiply the force of gravity.

He stepped across the threshold, and the world slammed down on him. It was like being instantly submerged in solid lead. The gravity was four times normal. Every movement was a monumental effort. The air itself felt thick and heavy to breathe. His newly-upgraded bones, still humming with latent energy, groaned under the sudden, immense pressure. For a moment, he just stood, bent slightly, muscles screaming as they fought just to keep him upright.

This was the point. With sheer, gritted-teeth willpower, he forced himself to straighten. He took one heavy, shuffling step, then another. His body, trained and refined in agony, began to grudgingly adapt. He wouldn’t use his sword. Not today. He needed to feel this new strength with his own hands.

He activated the room’s challenge function. From slots in the walls, three massive stone golems lumbered into existence. They weren’t mindless drones; their magical cores were tuned to the peak of the Red Knight stage, making them faster and stronger than any normal training dummy. In the crushing gravity, they moved with a slow, but terrifying, inevitability.

The fight was extreme from the first second. Nero couldn’t rely on his Flash Step; the gravity made such a move impossible. He had to meet them head-on. The first golem swung a fist the size of a boulder. Nero, moving through the thick air like it was syrup, ducked under the blow. The displaced air alone felt like a punch. He drove his own fist upward into the golem’s stone elbow. There was a loud CRACK, and a web of fractures spread across the construct’s arm. Shards of rock pattered to the floor.

But the other two were on him. A backhand caught him across the ribs, and even with his toughened bones, he felt something give with a sickening crunch. The breath exploded from his lungs. He staggered, and a kick from the third golem sent him flying across the room to slam into the reinforced wall. The impact would have shattered a normal man’s spine.

Pain erupted through his body. But as he pushed himself up, gasping, he felt it—a strange, warm, buzzing sensation deep in his marrow where his ribs were broken. His new, lightning-infused bones were not just strong; they were alive with regenerative energy. Before his eyes, the sharp, stabbing pain began to dull, replaced by a deep itch as the bone started knitting itself back together at an impossible speed. His regeneration had surpassed human limits.

Emboldened, he roared and charged back into the fray. He fought with brutal, bare-handed efficiency. He took hits that would have been fatal hours before. A punch shattered his left forearm. He felt the bones snap, then immediately begin to realign and fuse, the process fueled by the vibrant energy stored within them. He used the broken arm as a crude club to smash a golem’s knee, then pivoted and drove his good elbow through its chest, shattering its core.

For an hour, the chamber was a storm of violence. Stone shattered, bones broke and healed, and Nero’s roars of effort mixed with the grinding crashes of the golems. He was a wrecking ball in slow motion, his body a testament to suffering and miraculous recovery. He didn’t win easily. By the end, he was covered in his own blood and dust, his clothes torn, and every inch of him screamed in protest.

But he stood victorious. The three peak-Red Knight golems were piles of rubble. And he was still standing.

As he deactivated the gravity field, the sudden release made him feel as light as a feather, almost dizzying. He looked at his hands, clenched them into fists. The power he felt thrumming through him was undeniable. His physical strength, tested and proven in a four-fold gravity field against superior opponents, had already surged past the limits of the Red Knight stage reaching the Purple Knight level, his strength skyrocketing as well.
