Bringing the Nation's Husband Home

The office was silent. After who knows how long, Lu Jinnian’s phone rang. He pulled it out from his pocket and looked at the incoming message. His hand instinctively put out the cigarette, and he picked up the call.

Qiao Anhao’s heart shivered softly for a moment when she heard the call was picked up. She shut her eyes, took a deep breath, and said, ”Lu Jinnian...”

Having just called his name, Qiao Anhao fell silent.

After their relationship became no longer so cold and constricted, she hadn’t called him ”Mr. Lu” ever again, but she also knew that their relationship wasn’t close enough to call him by his name. For this, every time she spoke, she would purposefully avoid saying his name. Perhaps it was because of Zhao Meng’s messages, she was a little confused and hastily called him by his name.

A hint of sweat formed on Qiao Anhao’s hand that held the phone.

Lu Jinnian waited for a long time, but he couldn’t hear any words from Qiao Anhao after she called his name. His brows twitched, and although his voice was low and emotionless, between his dazzling eyes was a layer of gentleness. ”What’s the matter?”

When Qiao Anhao heard Lu Jinnian’s voice, she wanted to tell him all about what Han Ruchu said over the phone just now, but the words didn’t leave her mouth. She also thought about wanting to see him, and so her lips moved, soundless for a time, then she gently asked, ”Are you busy tonight?”

Lu Jinnian didn’t understand what Qiao Anhao meant. Moments later, he cleared his throat and asked again, ”What’s the matter?”

Qiao Anhao forcefully raised her fingers and with their tips traced the glass window. Then, as though she had decided on something, she summoned the courage to say what she wanted to say. ”If you’re not busy tonight, could you come home for a moment?”

All in all, it had been almost half a year since they got married. This was the first time she called him to come home.

As usual, the two of them were mutually respectful to one another, besides occasionally sharing a bed, they were no different from strangers.

In that instant, there was really a ’wife calling the husband home for dinner’ type of feeling, which made Lu Jinnian really happy. He felt an unspeakable throb his chest. It made him stand in front of the floor-to-ceiling window for a long time without saying a word.

Qiao Anhao waited for a while, but Lu Jinnian didn’t reply. She wasn’t confident he would reply to begin with, so now she was growing more uneasy by the second. Even though he didn’t reject her, he was silent, which made both her cheeks glow red. She bit her lip. After two gulps, she added in a low voice, ”I have something I want to tell you... if you don’t have time, then...”

”I’ll be home in about half an hour.” Before Qiao Anhao could finish, Lu Jinnian’s cool voice was heard through the phone.

In that instant, Qiao Anhao was stunned. Before she could snap back to reality, Lu Jinnian had already hung up.

Qiao Anhao brought the phone down from her ears and clutched it in her palms. She let out a long sigh of relief, realizing that her heart was racing at an alarming rate.

Lu Jinnian said he’ll be back in Mian Xiu Garden in half an hour. In actual fact, it was just twenty minutes. Qiao Anhao heard the sound of the car coming from downstairs.

She walked to the window and looked down to see Lu Jinnian already slowly driving into the garage.
