I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 27: Chapter 27: There Really Is a Big Sucker

”Whoa, this one has nice colors. Boss, how much is it?” Kang Ye was immediately drawn to the Pink and Blue Tang.

He had been feeling that the fish in his own tank were a bit dull in color. If he added this Pink and Blue Tang, it would surely liven things up quite a bit.

”This one is exactly ten centimeters. It’s a bit more expensive than the Multicolor Tang, two hundred and forty.” Gu Nan didn’t proactively lower the price just because he wanted to make a sale.

’Since the game provided the price, it must be suitable for the local market here.’

The price of seafood could fluctuate daily, and prices also varied by region.

Take the Star Chicken Fish, for example. There would be no problem with Gu Nan selling it for forty a jin, since he was probably the only one selling this fish in Yangjiang Port at the moment anyway.

But a price of forty didn’t quite match the taste of the fish. Customers might buy one to try it out, but it would be hard to build a base of repeat customers.

A price of twenty-five yuan a jin was more easily accepted by customers, and they would consider buying this fish again the next time they craved it.

Since Kang Ye kept ornamental fish, he naturally knew a thing or two about them. He could tell Gu Nan’s prices were quite fair, so he had no objection to the price quoted.

”Alright, I’ll take both of these Stab-tailed Fish then.”

”You got it! The Multicolor Tang is one-eighty, the Pink and Blue Tang is two-forty, for a total of four-twenty.” After calculating the price, Gu Nan also went ahead and scooped out the clownfish.

When Kang Ye saw this, he thought Gu Nan hadn’t noticed and quickly reminded him, ”You scooped out the clownfish, too.”

”This one’s a gift. It’s not right to leave it all by its lonesome. It’ll have a companion at your place.”

This explanation left Kang Ye not knowing whether to laugh or cry, but he could only nod and agree. ”Alright then!”

Meanwhile, Yi Chen, who was helping with the packing, was stunned. ’There’s really a sucker born every minute?’

With nothing to do while he waited, Kang Ye casually looked at the other fish in the shop. The colors of the Blue-striped Gidai and the Yellowfin Gidai immediately caught his eye.

”Boss, what kind of fish are these two?”

”These are also imported from East Africa...” Gu Nan explained while packing the fish and adding oxygen to the bag.

After hearing the explanation, Kang Ye was tempted. His family loved to eat fish, and he was very interested in these that looked so delicious.

Most importantly, in his spare time, he would film seafood videos to share on a certain popular video-sharing platform.

After coming to the mainland, he also created an account on B-Station and became a content creator.

Although he only had sixty thousand fans, it was just a hobby for him; he didn’t rely on it to make money.

He had already prepared the Black-striped Small Stripes Buri he had at home and was letting it age in the refrigerator. Once it was done aging in a few days, he planned to host a feast for his friends. The video for it was already in production.

After all, it was an eight-jin fish. There was no way his family could finish it all by themselves without inviting friends over.

But now, seeing the Blue-striped Gidai, he felt that familiar thrill of discovery again.

However, at that moment, the Humpback Grunter in the next tank seemed displeased that his gaze was fixed on the ”little sirens,” and it slapped the water’s surface hard with its tail, making a ”SPLASH!”

The sound managed to catch Kang Ye’s attention.

The fish was inconspicuous; he hadn’t actually noticed it before.

But upon seeing it now, Kang Ye was astonished. ”Boss, is this a Black-head?”

”No, this is a Humpback Grunter. It’s also imported. It does look a lot like a Black-head at first glance, but if you look closely, you’ll see its color isn’t quite as black.”

Gu Nan shook his head as he explained. He wasn’t like some of those unscrupulous seafood vendors who passed off cheaper, similar-looking fish as more expensive ones.

”A grunter!” Kang Ye realized. Grunters were a relatively rare type of fish. They could be found domestically, but not in large numbers, so most were imported.

But generally, this type of fish tasted amazing, though the price wasn’t cheap either.

Kang Ye began to hesitate over which one would be better to buy this time. If he bought them all, he wouldn’t have time to film videos for them.

He had his own job to attend to, so his schedule wasn’t very flexible. For now, he could only film one more fish.

”Boss, out of these fish, which one is rarer?”

”That would be the Humpback Grunter, of course. This fish is quite rare. As for the other two, if you want to try them in the future, I guarantee I’ll have them in stock!”

’A three-star fish naturally can’t compare to a four-star one.’

’At least, until I’ve collected a full set of green-tier equipment, I have no confidence I can get another Humpback Grunter.’

Three-star fish were relatively easier to come by. Though not numerous, he could probably get a few every day.

Hearing this, Kang Ye instantly made his decision. ”Alright, weigh this Humpback Grunter for me. I’ll take this one.”

”This fish is good for sashimi, braising, or soup. The price is one hundred and fifty yuan a jin. Are you sure?”

”That’s fine. I’ll take it.”

”You got it. Do you want it packed up, or should I kill and clean it for you now?”

”Pack it, pack it. Do your best to make sure it’s still alive when I get home.”

Slaughtering the fish on camera was a major selling point for his videos, so of course Kang Ye wasn’t going to let someone else do it.

Gu Nan handed him the packed ornamental fish, then scooped out the Humpback Grunter to weigh it before packing it separately.

The fish was a bit heavier than he had expected, weighing in at five-point-eight jin—almost six jin. That brought the price to eight hundred and seventy yuan.

But that made sense. The fish had a very thick body, so it was normal for it to be heavy.

Kang Ye paid via a mobile transfer, sending a total of one thousand two hundred and ninety yuan.

Yi Chen had originally thought Gu Nan’s claim of six thousand in daily revenue was a bit exaggerated, but after seeing this, she felt that if the shop had more fish, they might even hit ten thousand a day.

’If I work hard, couldn’t I make over ten thousand a month in salary?’

’So this is how profitable a seafood shop can be.’

If the owners of the neighboring seafood shops heard her thoughts, they’d probably die laughing.

It was hard enough to make two thousand a day from walk-in customers, let alone ten thousand.

Unless some big spender came in and bought a fish for several thousand yuan in one go.

If Yi Chen were working on commission at another seafood shop, she’d be lucky to even make four thousand a month, let alone ten thousand.

Gu Nan was giving her a direct 5% of the revenue. He had figured his shop would do well to make one or two thousand in revenue a day, with occasional spikes.

He had to let others make a living wage, too. Since she came to work for him, he couldn’t just short-change her, right?

Besides, the fish he caught himself had almost no cost other than taxes. It didn’t matter if he gave a slightly larger cut to someone for helping him sell fish and watch the store. This way, he could earn even more money.

Opening a seafood shop to sell the fish himself was much more profitable than selling them directly to fishmongers or other shops, so hiring an employee was, on the whole, more beneficial for him.

After Kang Ye left, carrying two bags puffed up with oxygen, An Jun came over to Gu Nan and teased, ”How about we skip Old Jiang’s for lunch and go back to that restaurant from yesterday?”

Gu Nan sucked in a sharp breath. ”My wounds are still bleeding from that, and you want to stick the knife in again?”

”What if I treat?”

”Okay, I’m closing up now!”

”Heh...”

An Jun flipped him the middle finger, then went to take Yi Chen with him to order from Old Jiang.

But she refused, telling him to just go and order himself.

Instead of going to order, Yi Chen kept busy, grabbing a mop to wipe up the floor that Gu Nan had gotten wet while netting the fish, so no one would step on the wet spot and slip.

She was particularly attentive to this point now!

An Jun shrugged and went to order by himself.

Gu Nan, on the other hand, grew even more satisfied with his new employee. ’She’s so proactive!’

From their interactions so far, he could tell this wasn’t something she was doing just for show. She was just a naturally detail-oriented girl.

With that, Gu Nan returned to the counter and started calculating the morning’s revenue.

Business had been great that morning, easily breaking three thousand yuan. The seafood shop was now truly on the right track.

Still, it was normal for revenue to be high on the weekend. The most important thing was to see how business would be for the latter half of the month.

If the average daily revenue was one or two thousand, then the shop would be completely stable.

After all, with a daily revenue of one thousand, after deducting taxes, the shop’s utility costs, and Yi Chen’s salary, he should still be able to pocket over six hundred.

Even at that rate, he could make over eighteen thousand a month. ’It feels like the good times are just around the corner!’
