Chapter 57: Chapter 8.9 : Another Morning Misunderstandings

It was a quiet morning at the Virellano residence.

Until—

”WHAAAAAAT?!”

David’s voice shook the entire lavish dining room. Everyone turned their heads: his mother paused mid-stir with her tea, and Clarista froze, tablet in hand, halfway through a news article.

Realizing his reaction had been a bit much, David quickly composed himself.

”Ahem... Sorry. I may have overreacted.”

”Sis, why Al? Why did you take him? Why not me? I know plenty about the family business!”

David stared at Aurielle as if pleading his case before the International Court of Justice.

Aurielle, calmly chewing her breakfast, gave him a tired look.

”David, I already introduced Al as my assistant to Miss Aiza. It’d be weird to change that suddenly. Especially since Miss Aiza knows him as one of her foundation’s scholarship students. His absence would’ve raised questions.”

She set her fork down, looking around the table before continuing.

”And you guys have no idea how intimidating she was last night. Her arguments nearly broke the Tamarvich and Norvalien families. If Al hadn’t been there, I might’ve been the next casualty.”

Just then, Edward, the family patriarch, walked in with the morning paper.

”Is that true?” he asked, arching a brow.

”It is, Dad,” Aurielle confirmed.

”She may be young, but her presence is... terrifying. I could only sit in stunned silence watching her in action.”

Aurielle’s tone hinted at a deeper tension that even the morning sun couldn’t soften.

”Oh, by the way, she’s sending her assistant to our office this afternoon. You might want to be ready.”

Edward lowered his paper and smiled.

”Good job.”

David slumped in his seat, wanting to protest, but unwilling to ruin his well-crafted image as the ”good son.”

Suddenly, through the large dining room window, someone could be seen walking slowly across the garden.

It was Al.

He looked exhausted, his eyes a little puffy, still wearing the same clothes from last night.

Sandra, their mother, squinted.

”Is he just getting home? What was that boy doing all night? Didn’t he leave with you, Aurielle?”

Aurielle shook her head.

”No, Mom. Miss Aiza asked him to stay a bit longer, and I couldn’t exactly say no. I honestly didn’t expect them to talk that long... no idea what they ended up doing till morning.”

”Maybe he left earlier but didn’t have cab fare to get home, or maybe they...???” Vianna suggested, her suspicious tone sharp enough to make headlines.

Aurielle raised an eyebrow.

Clarista stopped scrolling through scientific data.

David stared into space, stunned by the same implication.

A long silence fell over the table.

They were all thinking the same thing.

Then, almost in unison, each one of them mentally dismissed it.

”No way...”

”Miss Aiza’s on a whole different level...”

”Al’s just... Al.”

The conversation resumed.

”Oh right,” Sandra piped up, ”Miss Aiza’s from Ameria, right? Does Al even speak English?”

Aurielle chuckled, recalling the night before.

”That’s the surprising part. At the party, and again last night, she spoke perfect Indorosian—like she was born here. And Al studied at HIHS. English is probably not an issue for him.”

”So... she’s multilingual?” Clarista asked, intrigued.

”Seems like it,” Aurielle nodded. ”That probably explains how her business grew so fast—her communication skills definitely give her an edge in global networking. Honestly... I’m a little jealous. I’m older than her, but still feel like a noob sometimes.”

”And her face is pretty Asian, right?” David added.

”She could be Indorosian,” Vianna guessed.

David went quiet... and slowly began to smile.

Indorosian...

My age...

Smart... talented... beautiful... Asian roots... filthy rich...

Perfect.

The words echoed in his mind, growing louder with every breath.

He glanced toward Al, who had just stepped inside his modest little guest house.

That orphan boy... is way too lucky. David thought bitterly as he stabbed his scrambled eggs with a bit too much force.

Then, unexpectedly, Vianna—who normally didn’t care for business talk—spoke up.

”Wait, isn’t our company global too? From what you’re all saying, it’s like we’re under Miss Aiza or something?”

Edward calmly responded, ”Of course, Vianna. We’re a global leader. But business doesn’t work in straight lines. We’re not beneath Miss Aiza or Alasia Group, but when it comes to investment power, they are one of the giants. Think of our company as the implementer, the field player. While Alasia Group... they’re the ones providing the capital. Even with our own large reserves, we still need outside funding to push through new and larger-scale projects.”

He paused, hoping Vianna would follow.

Sadly...

”I don’t get it, Dad.”

Everyone sighed. They knew Vianna’s relationship with complex concepts wasn’t exactly... strong.

David leaned in to help.

”Think of Alasia Group like external energy you need to level up. You’ve got your own inner strength, but you still do cultivation to power up, right?”

”Ooohh! I get it now!” Vianna lit up, finally connecting the dots.

Even Clarista looked up from her tablet.

”David, I think you’re the only one who can translate Vianna’s brain language.”

David smiled proudly—until Vianna continued.

”Relax, everyone! I totally get it now. So, our internal strength is like... our own capital. And Alasia Group is like... an external energy boost that helps us power up faster!”

Aurielle quickly ended her sister’s ’brilliant’ analogy.

”Anyway, we’ll be collaborating with them. Let’s just make sure to maintain a good relationship with Alasia Group.”

She turned to David, eyes gleaming with mischief.

”Especially if my dear little brother—who seems very taken with Miss Aiza—manages to get closer to her. What a shame for poor Nayala.”

She let out a sly chuckle.

David immediately choked on his drink.

”B-Big Sis!”

Edward raised a brow.

Sandra put her spoon down.

”David... do you like Miss Aiza?” she asked, her tone calm but cutting.

David tried to stay composed, offering a stiff laugh.

”N-Not really, Mom, Dad. I’m just... intrigued. Maybe a little impressed. She’s... someone I admire, I guess. Sorry if it came across wrong.”

Sandra exhaled slowly.

”I understand. It’s natural to be drawn to someone like her. But remember, in two months, you’re supposed to get engaged to Nayala. I just don’t want an unnecessary scandal ruining two family legacies.”

Edward nodded in agreement.

”But if you’re truly serious about Miss Aiza... and your relationship with Nayala isn’t working, I won’t stop you. In fact, I might even support it. But be clear, David. Don’t go halfway.”

David bowed his head respectfully.

”Yes, Father. Mother. I understand.”

Vianna leaned over and whispered to Clarista,

”He’s totally in love.”

Clarista gave a tiny nod as she sipped her tea.

”And I hope that doesn’t blow up in our faces.”
