The 99th Divorce

After a long while, Shen Zhilie’s face remained still.

The look in his eyes held a bevy of meaning as he looked at her strangely and said, “She’s already married. Do you expect me to pursue an affair with her?”

Well…

He did have a point!

No one had ever ruled that feelings for a person had to last a lifetime.

Even couples that were married were allowed to divorce!

Besides, Lili had never expressed any interest in the guy…

“Um…”

Ye Qianqian did know what else to say. She looked at Shen Zhilie as the blush on her face slowly began to dissipate.

There was no need at all for her to be this nervous!

They both knew each other well. For all she knew, he might have found her discomfort laughable.

Pretending to be unaffected, Ye Qianqian cleared her throat and continued, “If that’s the case…”

“I quite admire Lili. She’s very strong. I always thought it was a waste that she married Ou Ming. That guy is a complete asshole.” Shen Zhilie moved closer to Ye Qianqian and picked his words carefully. “But after that, I realized that when a person truly loves another, it doesn’t matter what his or her past is. Just like when I liked Lili, I didn’t mind that she had been with Ou Ming before or that she had even gone through an abortion. I just wanted to save her from that hell.”

Ye Qianqian felt very uncomfortable hearing his words.

He had truly liked Lili.

Of course, Ye Qianqian knew that.

But she had just asked him whether he liked her. Wasn’t it inappropriate for him to be saying this so soon after?

Ye Qianqian saw the seriousness in Shen Zhilie’s eyes. She cleared her throat and moved back, releasing a breath.

“I later realized that the way I liked Lili wasn’t the way a man likes a woman.”

As Shen Zhilie spoke, he slowly walked toward Ye Qianqian.

Ye Qianqian began to panic and instinctively tried to avoid him. She asked, “What was it?”

“Admiration and the challenge to conquer.”

Ye Qianqian looked annoyed at that answer. “What on earth! What a douche!”

“Well, that’s natural instinct. The more we can’t get something, the more we want it. You’re the same, Ye Qianqian.” The corners of Shen Zhilie’s lips lifted in a smile. “Later on, it all became clear to me.”

Ye Qianqian continued to back away. The pain from her sprained ankle caused cold beads of sweat to appear on her brow.

“A huge portion of what I felt for her was admiration followed by pity. In general, I just felt that she was a pretty nice lady.”

“Um…” Ye Qianqian couldn’t remain standing any longer. She turned her head back to look and slowly inched her way over to the couch.

Shen Zhilie took the opportunity to walk over and said, “I’m done. Any more questions?”

“I…”

Awkwardness overcame Ye Qianqian as her face reddened once again. She said, “You spoke too much. I forgot what I wanted to say.”

“I’ve already guessed it.”

“What?”

“It’s true.”

Ye Qianqian was befuddled and asked again, “What?”

“It’s true that your chest is flat.”

Ye Qianqian was infuriated when she heard that.

She reached out to pick up a cushion and flung it at Shen Zhilie as she hollered, “Scram!”

Shen Zhilie broke out in hearty laughter and caught the pillow. He asked, “Would you like to take another shower? You sat on the floor for such a long time just now. Your shower was as good as not taken.”

“It’s none of your business. Go away!” Ye Qianqian picked up another pillow to toss over.

Shen Zhilie laughed as he caught it again and asked, “Are you done with your questions?”

“Yes!”

“Alright. Now it is my turn to ask you.”

Ye Qianqian’s eyes widened. “You have questions to ask?”

“But of course! Why should you be the only one who’s allowed to ask your questions?” Shen Zhilie placed the cushions back on the couch before seating himself beside Ye Qianqian. “Have you ever been kissed?” he asked.
