The 99th Divorce

Yu Lili was a good cook, and she was especially good at making Braised Pork with Brown Sauce. Ou Ming enjoyed eating it every time. It was a special dish that took time and effort to perfect, so Yu Lili didn’t make it very often.

Today, she had noticed that the pork belly was at a good price, so she bought some. It took over forty minutes to cook, and she had been busy in the kitchen. By the time the meal was ready, it was almost seven o’clock in the evening.

She glanced at the clock and gave Ou Ming a call. The phone rang for a long time and he didn’t answer. Yu Lili called again, and it took several seconds before he picked up.

This time, there was no noise in the background. The atmosphere that Ou Ming was in was quiet, and only his voice could be heard as he answered, “Hello?”

Yu Lili was annoyed and a little angry when she replied, “Why haven’t you come back?”

The background was a bit too quiet, and his voice was followed by an echo. “Later,” he said, “I am having dinner with my mother. She is not an easy woman to get away from, so I will have to stay a bit longer.”

Yu Lili subconsciously thought of the phone call in the morning.

His home and his mother. Why do those things make me feel so uncomfortable?

She wanted to ask, but she was afraid that he would dislike her for caring too much. She hesitated and said, “All right, take your time.”

“Well, remember to eat.” Ou Ming felt a little sorry for advising her, then hung up the phone.

Yu Lili looked at the table full of food and suddenly felt very upset. She got herself a bowl of rice and ate it slowly.

Just as Ou Ming hung up, Shen Manting opened the door. She walked in and saw that he was surprised. “There you are, why are you in the utility room?” she asked.

“No reason.” Ou Ming put his phone into his pocket. He didn’t even want to look at her, so he turned away. As he was on his way out, Shen Manting stopped him and pulled him back. “Ou Ming, I am your future wife. Can you at least try to be nice to me?”

Ou Ming turned to look at her with a faint smile and said, “Shen Manting, do you think I would be engaged to you if it wasn’t for my mother?”

“You shouldn’t say that,” Shen Manting said testily. “You know your mother’s condition. Do you think she would even be alive if you didn’t have my brother’s help?”

Ou Ming raised his eyebrows. He looked at her with the most contemptuous expression possible and asked, “Shen Manting, since you are so pretty, how is it that you took a liking to a man like me? According to you, you can find whatever kind of man you want. So why are you so set on staying with me?

“I just like you. You don’t think that I don’t know every time you go to the nightclub? You don’t think that I’ll check on it?” Shen Manting walked over proudly. She looked at Ou Ming straight in the eyes and said, “It’s just like checking on your mistress. There is nothing that you can hide from me because I know everything.”

Ou Ming looked at her, disgust in his eyes.

She is always like this, thinking that she is superior to everyone else, showing no empathy for others. She is self-satisfied, aggressive, and arrogant. She doesn’t understand that I can see right through her. It is clear that she has little power because she relies on Shen Luo’an too much. She is a paranoid idiot!

However, he couldn’t tell her how little power Shen Luo’an would soon have over him. At least, not yet. With one last sneer, he walked out.
