He Traded the System for My Rebirth, and I Led Him Across the Apocalypse

42: Polar Night ArrangementsJi Chuan nodded.

”AChi, you’re right. Moreover, our Huaxia was the fastest to get back on track since the Apocalypse began. We must also guard against spies from those neighboring countries that are eyeing us greedily due to their own resource shortages.”

”Mm, let’s notify Zhao Yan and the others now to have a meeting together.”

Half an hour later, in the conference room of Qingyun Base.

Although the interior was as bright as day, the pitch-black darkness outside still left the management of Qingyun Base feeling somewhat anxious.

When Lin Wan and the others entered, everyone stood up one after another.

Seeing the leaders of their base looking so calm and composed,

the hearts of these people settled down a bit.

Undoubtedly, at any time, Lin Wan and her group were the backbone of the entire base, existing like a stabilizing force; it seemed that as long as they were there, no problem was unsolvable.

”Everyone, please take a seat.”

When facing outsiders, Shen Mo Chi always had a powerful aura and was full of dominance.

It made people dare not harbor any ill intentions, but in the eyes of the Qingyun Base management, that slightly oppressive gaze actually gave them a full sense of security.

Even though many were older than them, everyone’s expressions held the respect they deserved.

Only after they were seated did Zhao Yan and the others sit down.

”With the Polar Night upon us, we should have corresponding measures. Things are still very chaotic outside, right?”

Lin Wan sat in the center, flanked by Shen Mo Chi and Nian Nian on one side, and Ji Chuan and Yue Yue on the other.

Generally, for major matters, they would first discuss and reach an agreement in private, then she would speak for the group while the others chimed in occasionally, maintaining a tacit and harmonious understanding.

”Sister Wan, the Polar Night came so suddenly that the outside world has already turned into a complete mess!”

said Zhao Yan, the general captain of the ability squad.

”Yeah, those factories that were just established have all been looted! I heard that The Authorities sent out the ability army yesterday to suppress it, but some extremists actually dared to charge at the army to rob them!”

”In the end, The Authorities used thunderous methods to barely suppress it. However, if it’s like this just as the Polar Night begins, the days ahead won’t be peaceful.”

said Wang Hao, the manager of the trading market.

”Mm, it’s not surprising that this is happening. After all, the Polar Night is different from other natural disasters; the uncertainty and danger are very high.”

”Regardless of what’s happening outside, our base must first ensure its own safety before anything else.”

”Zhao Yan, during this period, the entry and exit of our base must be strictly managed and verified.”

”From now on, no one is allowed to bring people in casually. Also, for everyone’s safety, the gates will be closed at a set time, and no one is allowed out.”

”Understood, Sister Wan. I’ll go make the arrangements after the meeting.”

Professor Yuan had been an expert in the field of agriculture before the Apocalypse.

When he heard that Lin Wan had a large number of seeds and saplings in her space and was recruiting agricultural talent, he joined Qingyun Base without hesitation.

After coming in, he completely understood why Qingyun Base could become the highly sought-after number one base under the leadership of these few young people.

Though they were each exceptionally capable, they still maintained a bottom line of kindness and great love in the Apocalypse.

They wouldn’t just help others haphazardly, yet they truly ensured that many people had food to eat and a place to live.

Furthermore, they previously only knew that Japan had nearly been wiped out because of them.

But later, after the villains among the higher-ups were rooted out and dealt with, everyone found out that the Qingyun Squad had actually destroyed an undersea zombie base built by Country M and Country R to attack Huaxia, saving Huaxia from a cruel catastrophe!

This matter was later publicly praised by name by the Capital City authorities, and the Qingyun Squad was rightfully awarded a first-class merit.

He sighed and said,

”Little Wan, it’s a blessing amidst misfortune that all the harvests in our base’s planting area were completed a month ago.”

”With potatoes, vegetables, corn, and sweet potatoes, if we eat sparingly, these should be enough to sustain the people of the base for over half a year.”

They each respected this selfless elder.

Without his day-and-night dedication, how could so many people now be able to fill their stomachs and survive the Polar Night?

However, the planting technology had only just been popularized, and they only had time to plant for one season.

In the vast Huaxia, with its large population, the sudden arrival of the Polar Night combined with the cold winter weather caused many to lose their sources of supplies instantly, which was why riots were occurring.

”Mm, Elder Yuan, you don’t need to worry too much. With us here, you can rest easy; just take care of your health.”

”Mm, I’ll go back and do some more research with them to see if we can make any new breakthroughs.”

”Also, regarding the school and the trading market, keep the lights on and proceed according to the previous schedule. If you stay steady, the people below will stay steady, and our base will stay steady.”

After the meeting, everyone’s hearts were instantly at ease, and they no longer panicked.

When the meeting adjourned, everyone went about their tasks in an orderly fashion.

Cohesion and the daily accumulation of prestige were very important.

From the very first step, Qingyun Base had moved steadily, never being careless.

So, as the Polar Night arrived and some private bases were already falling into chaos, Qingyun Base remained as stable as Mount Tai.

The terrifying thing about the Polar Night was that prolonged darkness could be very depressing.

Even Lin Wan, whose heart was already very strong, couldn’t help but feel at times that life was meaningless while looking at the day-after-day darkness.

Fortunately, she had Shen Mo Chi by her side, along with Yue Yue and the others, as well as a bunch of phones and tablets; she could even watch TV when bored.

Half a month later, everyone had basically adapted slowly, and the occasional minor conflicts were quickly quelled.

Qingyun Base remained as protected as an iron bucket. The people inside were once again filled with gratitude for this base, feeling lucky to be a part of it when the Polar Night arrived.

And the people outside didn’t dare to go too far under the intervention of the official army.

They began to take flashlights and lighting tools to collect supplies so they could exchange them for points.

Official points could be exchanged for many things, almost without restriction, and were essentially the future circulating currency.

So, naturally, the more the better.

Although the Polar Night was frightening, the desire to survive could still overcome everything.

The Polar Night was inherently depressing, and it wasn’t suitable to stay at home for long periods; it was easy to get depressed.

Lin Wan and the others couldn’t stay idle either, often going to various parts of the base to inspect and solve various problems.

On the other hand, frequently going to places with a bit of human presence always made one’s state of mind a bit more pleasant.

This day, Lin Wan and Shen Mo Chi went to the school area hand in hand.

They were wearing night-vision goggles, so they could see things very clearly.

”Mo Chi, it’s been a month of Polar Night. The children have gone from crying every day to not crying at all now; their adaptability is quite good.”

”By the way, yesterday Bei Bei even said she wanted to recite the Three Character Classic for me. I bet she’s thinking about my candy again.”

Shen Mo Chi held her hand and said with a smile,

”Mm, they’re all a bunch of little clever ones. I said before, don’t underestimate a Child’s adaptability; sometimes, they are much stronger than we imagine.”

”Yes, yes, yes, everything you say is right...”

Everything had been going smoothly at the base recently.

The two of them chatted and laughed, feeling pleasant.

Walking to the door, Lin Wan suddenly saw a familiar silhouette ahead, standing there motionless.

”Hubby, isn’t that Teacher Zhang? Shouldn’t she be in class?”

Shen Mo Chi looked at the figure standing with her back to them, motionless, and also found it a bit strange.

”Mm, it’s her.”

Lin Wan called out,

”Teacher Zhang... why aren’t you going in to...”

The moment Zhang Ting turned around, Lin Wan’s starry eyes widened slightly, and her unfinished words came to an abrupt halt.
