Chapter 4088: Choice

‘Only members of the Inner Palace faction can enter the Supreme Powerhouse Relic?’

Duan Ling Tian was momentarily stunned upon hearing Yang Yu Chen’s words. When he recovered his senses, he shook his head and said, “Then, I won’t join the Myriad Laws Academy. I’ll consider joining the Scarlet Flame Palace or the Spirit Convergence Paradise. Vice Academy Master Yang, please leave.”

Duan Ling Tian thought it was ridiculous. Yang Yu Chen was clearly treating him as a fool. In the beginning, Yang Yu Chen failed to mention the Inner Palace faction and only brought it up after he agreed to join the Myriad Laws Academy. It was obvious that Yang Yu Chen was trying to trick him. How could an intermediate Supreme God be so shameless? After meeting Yang Yu Chen, he felt like his impression of Supreme Gods had changed. Yang Yu Chen had promised him benefits that he could not refuse in the beginning, and later on, Yang Yu Chen said that he would have to pay a price, which included his freedom, to have access to the benefits.

At the same time, after listening to Duan Ling Tian’s words, Ye Chen Feng and the others from the Pure Yang Sect broke out in cold sweat. He was speaking too arrogantly to an intermediate Supreme God after all. Was he not afraid of being slapped to death or crushed with just one finger?

As for Yang Yu Chen, his expression did not change after he listened to Duan Ling Tian’s words. He only smiled and asked calmly, “What? Are you worried the Myriad Laws Academy will restrict your freedom? Or that the academy will tie you to it?”

!!

Duan Ling Tian did not reply and only nodded in response.

Although the Myriad Laws Academy stood high up in the Profound Energy Land and was almost comparable to the prime supreme-rank forces, Duan Ling Tian had no wish of staying in the Myriad Laws Academy and protecting it. He still had many things to do. Moreover, after he completed his tasks and was reunited with his family, it was unlikely that he would continue to stay in the Myriad Laws Academy.

Yang Yu Chen shook his head gently and said, “That’s not the case at all. I didn’t mention this earlier because it doesn’t make a difference when I mention it. It seems like you think that you’ll be bound by the Inner Palace faction after joining it, right?”

Yang Yu Chen looked at Duan Ling Tian after he finished speaking. Seeing the slight frown on Duan Ling Tian’s face, he smiled and continued to say, “You don’t have to worry about that. I would’ve made it clear to you earlier if I knew you would misunderstand me. The Inner Palace faction protects the academy, but it won’t restrict your freedom. For example, among the four current members of the faction, including me, two of them aren’t in the Myriad Laws Academy. In fact, they’re not even the Profound Energy Land. When you’re in the academy, you’ll naturally take an active role in protecting it. If the academy suffers from a disaster and you choose not to help even if you’re in the academy, you won’t be punished for it. You’ll only be expelled from the faction. It won’t affect your time in the academy at all. You can continue to be a student in the academy. Also, if you want to leave the academy, be it temporary or for good, the faction won’t force you to stay in the academy. Moreover, if you don’t return to the academy for more than 10,000 years, you’ll automatically be removed from the faction. That aside, as a member of the faction, you’ll be able to enjoy various privileges. In fact, regarding what I promised you earlier, under normal circumstances, only those who contributed to a certain extent would be given an opportunity. I made an exception for you this time because I think you’ll be a valuable addition to the faction.”

Duan Ling Tian was rather surprised by Yang Yu Chen’s words. He knew that after joining the Myriad Laws Academy as an ordinary student, he would not be tied down. As long as he maintained a top rank, there was nothing to worry about. Even if he did not maintain a top rank, he would only need to pay a tuition fee. However, he was surprised to learn that although there were more privileges in becoming a member of the Inner Palace faction, it was also free from obligations.

Duan Ling Tian was not in a hurry to reply to Yang Yu Chen. Instead, he asked for Ye Chen Feng’s opinion through Voice Transmission.

Ye Chen Feng replied, “I’ve never heard of the Inner Palace faction in the Myriad Laws Academy. However, I don’t think he’s lying. In any case, you should still carefully consider the matter of joining the faction. Even if there’s no obligation after joining the faction, there might be other consequences. For example, if the academy is in trouble and you turn a blind eye to it, it might give birth to a Devil’s Heart. At that time, you’ll have trouble surviving your Heavenly Tribulation. I’m sure the faction selects its members carefully. As such, the members are likely not the kind to do nothing if the academy encounters a problem.”

Duan Ling Tian discovered that Ye Chen Feng, as an outsider, saw the entire picture much more clearly than he did. He had forgotten about the Devil’s Heart completely.

Ye Chen Feng continued to say, “I don’t know what kind of Supreme Powerhouse Relic he promised you, but for you to be so interested, it must be very useful to you. However, even if there’s no obligation tying you to the academy and the faction, once you enter the Supreme Powerhouse Relic, you’ll personally feel obligated to help the faction and the academy. Unless you don’t care at all, it’s impossible to avoid feeling obligated. Perhaps, you have never encountered the Devil’s Heart so you might not understand the severity of the matter. However, the Devil’s Heart is usually fatal.”

After a very brief pause, Ye Chen Feng said again, “I’ve already told you everything I know. You’ll have to decide for yourself. Even if you decide against joining the Myriad Laws Academy, you can still join any one of the nine heavyweight supreme-rank forces even if you’ve already refused them earlier. You don’t have to worry about Vice Academy Master Yang. From what I know, his reputation and character are quite good.”

Duan Ling Tian fell deep into his thoughts after listening to Ye Chen Feng’s words. He was truly very interested in the Supreme Powerhouse Relic that Yang Yu Chen mentioned because it was very useful to him. However, no matter what, once he joined the Inner Palace faction, he would have obligations even if they were imposed by himself. It was different from only joining the Myriad Laws Academy. Despite Yang Yu Chen’s words, he definitely had to pay a price if he wanted to enter the Supreme Powerhouse Relic. Moreover, he was sure this was also within Yang Yu Chen’s calculations.

‘Supreme Gods are indeed farsighted…’ Duan Ling Tian sighed inwardly. After a moment, he looked at Yang Yu Chen and said, “Vice Academy Master Yang, I’m willing to join the Myriad Laws Academy.”

Yang Yu Chen’s smile widened upon hearing Duan Ling Tian’s words. “I’ve already said that you should address me as ‘senior brother’. When do you plan to leave the Pure Yang Sect for the Myriad Laws Academy? If you plan to leave soon, I’ll wait for you in the Pure Yang Sect’s estate, and we can set off for the academy together. Otherwise, I’ll take my leave first and return to pick you up later.”

Yang Yu Chen’s smile was bright, and his gaze had also become much gentler now.

Duan Ling Tian replied, “I’ll only need a few days.”

“Very well. Then, I’ll wait for you in the Pure Yang Sect,” Yang Yu Chen said with a nod. Then, he looked at Liu Feng Gu, the founder of the Tyrannic Saber faction, and asked, “Elder Liu, aren’t you going to make me wait here? Or am I not welcome?”

Yang Yu Chen had spoken to Liu Feng Gu because among everyone present, he had met Liu Feng Gu once and vaguely remembered Liu Feng Gu.

Liu Feng Gu trembled inwardly upon hearing Yang Yu Chen’s words. Then, he said with a bitter smile, “Vice Academy Master Yang, you must be joking. It’s an honor that you’re staying in our sect for a few days. How can we not welcome you? If you don’t mind, I’ll arrange for you to stay on the Tyrannic Saber Island where the Tyrannic Saber faction is located.”

“Good,” Yang Yu Chen said with a nod.

Many high-ranking officials looked at Liu Feng Gu enviously as he led Yang Yu Chen away. It was only when the duo disappeared from sight that they shifted their attention back to Duan Ling Tian.

At this time, Zhen Ping Fan said through Voice Transmission, “Let’s drink to our hearts’ content in the coming two days. This is my way of bidding farewell to you.”

Although Zhen Ping Fan did not say much earlier, he had been communicating with his father, Zhen Yun Feng, and Ye Chen Feng through Voice Transmission. He was aware that Ye Chen Feng had helped Duan Ling Tian analyze the pros and cons of joining the Myriad Laws Academy’s Inner Palace faction so he did not ask much.

“Alright,” Duan Ling Tian said with a smile. In fact, the main reason he planned to stay for a few days before leaving was so he could properly bid farewell to Zhen Ping Fan, Ye Chen Feng, and Zhen Yun Feng, whom he felt he owed a lot. As for the others, he was not very familiar with them since he did not have much contact with them.

…

Duan Ling Tian spent the next day with Zhen Ping Fan. Zhen Yun Feng was present for half a day.

Zhen Yun Feng imparted his knowledge about the heavyweight supreme-rank forces to Duan Ling Tian and told Duan Ling Tian about his personal experience when he was wandering the world. He was worried that Duan Ling Tian would suffer a loss so he did not hesitate to tell Duan Ling Tian everything he knew and experienced.

…

The day after that, Duan Ling Tian bade farewell to Zhen Ping Fan and went to Hidden Sword Island to spend time with Ye Chen Feng.

The duo chatted about many topics apart from the Sword Dao.

“In fact, there’s no need to bid farewell to us. You can just form a doppelganger from a law and leave it here,” Ye Chen Feng said with a smile.

Ye Chen Feng was aware that Duan Ling Tian had comprehended a variety of laws. In the past, the Pure Yang Sect had investigated Duan Ling Tian and discovered that he had entered various chambers of law while he was in the Flying Dragon Sect and the Linghu clan.

“There are still differences between my doppelgangers and me. I feel it’s more sincere for me to bid farewell to all of you in person,” Duan Ling Tian replied with a smile. At the same time, he sighed inwardly. He had just joined the Pure Yang Sect not too long ago, but he was leaving so soon.
