Pampering Discarded Heroines Triggers My 10,000x Rebate System

By seven in the evening, the sun had dropped beneath the skyline. The horizon beyond Floor Eighty’s panoramic glass glowed in deep indigo and gold.

A rich, savory aroma filled the penthouse kitchen. In a wide cast-iron skillet, seasoned river fish sizzled over low heat beside steaming pots of garlic greens and jasmine rice.

Zephyra stood at the stove stirring clear broth in an oversized gray sweater. Standing right beside her at the granite counter in a cream cardigan and dark trousers was Calista.

Her hip rested lightly against the counter edge for balance, her bare feet planted on a padded rubber mat. With steady motions, she folded toasted sesame seeds and herbs into a bowl of steaming rice.

When Evren and Amber walked into the kitchen, Amber stopped with a bright grin. ”Look who’s running the kitchen.”

Calista turned her head, wiping a fleck of herbs from her fingers. ”Dr. Elena cleared me for light standing drills this afternoon, and I told Zephyra I was tired of just watching everyone cook.”

”She made the glaze for the fish,” Zephyra said without turning around, though the slight tilt of her mouth showed her pride. ”Her hands are completely steady.”

Evren took a seat at the dining table. ”How did the rest of the mobility session go?”

”Twenty minutes between the parallel bars without the harness,” Calista answered as Zephyra carried the platters over. ”Elena said the deep nerve pathways in my calves are firing with full conductivity.”

Zephyra helped Calista to the table, letting her grip the chair back and lower herself smoothly into her seat.

They ate in relaxed comfort, enjoying the warm food while Amber smiled over her glass, eager for Wednesday’s delivery.

As the plates cleared, Calista set her tea cup down on its saucer. Her expression grew focused and composed.

She reached into the pocket of her wheelchair and pulled out her leather-bound notebook, laying it open in the center of the table. The pages were packed with neat handwriting, alchemical diagrams, temperature curves, and reagent ratios marked in ink.

”This is Starlight Pharmaceuticals’ ten-day launch plan,” Calista began in a steady voice. ”Using the operating capital you already deposited into our account, we’ve finalized the equipment orders for the biotechnology facility in District Two.”

She turned the page, pointing to three bold headings. ”The Star-Jade botanical reserves in my family’s conservatory are secured under Walter’s guards, and I’ve developed three proprietary formulas no other lab in the empire can replicate.”

”First is the Starlight Vitality Draught, a full-spectrum battlefield restorative that restores mana, clears fatigue, and closes wounds simultaneously,” Calista explained. ”Standard military potions carry a two to five percent residual toxicity penalty, but my formula uses purified Star-Jade sap to eliminate cellular toxicity entirely.”

Amber’s eyes widened. ”That alone would dominate the frontline market.”

”Second is the Celestial Nerve-Conducting Salve, a topical compound for hunters suffering from frayed or burned mana channels from over-channeling,” Calista continued. ”It accelerates internal channel repair by three hundred percent.”

She tapped the third heading with a slender finger. ”And third is the Star-Diamond Bone-Setting Compound, an emergency field paste that uses dissolved void-crystal dust to knit compound fractures together in under sixty seconds.”

Evren looked across the table at the silver-haired alchemist. The helpless exhaustion from two weeks ago was completely gone, replaced by a confident master of her craft.

”You mapped this whole pipeline while resting in your room?” Evren asked with a small smile.

”I had two years to think about what the market was missing while I was trapped in that basement,” Calista answered quietly. ”I want to build something that carries Apex’s name across the entire continent.”

”The plan is solid and the formulas are unmatched,” Evren said with an approving nod. ”If you run into any regulatory delays from the council, let me know. Apex backs you all the way.”

A bright smile spread across Calista’s face. She closed the notebook and held it against her chest, her eyes shimmering with genuine joy.

Ten minutes later, the dinner dishes were stacked neatly by the edge of the table.

Calista set her cloth napkin down. She placed both palms flat against the tabletop, took a slow breath, and braced her feet flat against the hardwood floor.

Evren started to rise to offer her an arm, but Calista looked up and shook her head with a determined smile. ”Let me try.”

Evren stepped back to give her room.

Calista engaged her core and pushed firmly against the armrests to straighten her back. Locking her knees, she stood up completely on the hardwood floor.

She picked up her empty ceramic plate and water glass in her right hand, her knuckles completely steady.

Her left foot stepped forward, landing firm and flat on the polished floor. That was step one.

Her right foot swung through, her ankle trembling for a fraction of a second before planting solidly beneath her hip. That was step two.

She moved forward smoothly, walking the remaining distance to the kitchen counter. With a soft click, Calista set her dishes safely into the sink.

She turned around, resting only the fingertips of one hand against the counter for balance. Her breathing was slightly elevated and her cheeks were flushed pink, but her spine was straight and she looked proud of herself.

Amber broke into sudden applause, and Zephyra’s violet eyes softened with rare warmth. Evren looked across the open floor at her, a slow, proud smile touching his lips.

—

By eleven o’clock that night, the penthouse had grown completely quiet. Amber and Zephyra had retired to their suites after an evening soak, and Calista was fast asleep down the hall.

Evren stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass in his master suite, holding the matte-black polymer keycard Grand Arbiter Kincaid had pressed into his hand earlier that morning. The cool surface caught the ambient glow of the skyline as he turned it between his fingers.

He slipped on a dark jacket, took the private express elevator to the ground concourse, and drove across the quiet capital boulevards toward the massive stone silhouette of the Grand Citadel.

The Citadel was operating under its midnight watch. Evren bypassed the main administrative rotundas, presenting his defense credentials at the fortified checkpoints leading into the eastern sub-levels.

At the lowest subterranean tier, forty feet beneath the bedrock, he reached a heavy titanium security bulkhead.

A lone terminal glowed with a faint standby light beside the steel door beneath a brass plaque: Imperial Pre-War Research Archives.

Evren slid Kincaid’s black keycard across the optical reader. The terminal chimed with a low, mechanical tone as indicator lights flickered across the console, followed by crisp white text.

[TIER-3 CLEARANCE VERIFIED]

[ACCESS LEVEL: UNRESTRICTED]

With a pneumatic hiss, the magnetic locks disengaged, and the reinforced vault door slid smoothly into the stone wall.

Evren stepped inside. The air was cool, dry, and sterile, smelling of aged parchment, cold metal, and ozone as rows of towering server banks stretched into the dim, quiet chamber.

In the center of the rotunda stood the primary research console. Evren sat down in front of the wide glass terminal and tapped the optical surface to wake the archival interface.

An empty search field connected to the pre-war central database appeared on the display. Evren placed his hands on the console, typing the three terms that had lingered in his mind since the void rift collapsed.

ARCHIVE SEED + PROGENITOR + CUSTODIAN PROTOCOL

He paused for half a second, his dark eyes fixed on the glowing text, then pressed Enter.

Evren sat back against the chair, watching the blue processing ring rotate in the center of the glass screen as the deep query initiated.

[INDEXING PRE-WAR ARCHIVES...]

[SCANNING DECLASSIFIED REPOSITORIES, CLASSIFIED SUB-VAULTS, AND FIRST CONVERGENCE CODICES...]

The subterranean vault was dead silent; the only sound was the faint hum of cooling fans inside the server racks.

Thirty seconds passed into forty-five. The processing ring pulsed steadily, sifting through millions of terabytes of forgotten imperial records and ancient dimensional logs.

Then, right at the sixty-one-second mark, the ring snapped into a solid green perimeter. A beep echoed through the quiet chamber, and the screen updated with a single glowing line:
