After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

The leaks were harshest in the Western sectors. It was more or less defended similarly as the other areas far from the gates—with guards, ballista bolts, and the like—but the leader had a level 30 swordsman named Kon, and along with him were scores of level 20s.

They were part of the first batch of mercenaries who went through the array. The difference was, the entire mercenary team—established in Basset Town—wanted to wait until there were openings before they moved.

Imagine: Their team weakened by the long battle, and his group of a hundred mercenaries appeared to save the day!

They had seen a few of those flares pop up here and there, but somehow the chaos inside never seemed to be enough for them to sneak in safely.

After a while, he and his men had started to show impatience. ”We need to move, Boss. If we lose, we’re going to become slaves!”

His voice irked Kon very much. ”Shut up!” he yelled. ”Let me think!”

As one could see, his team’s level was just strong for a level 1 Town, but It was not overwhelming that he wouldn’t fear for his life. His mercenary team was relatively new and most people were barely in their level 20s, some even lower.

This was why they couldn’t just go barreling through without fear. He would lose a lot of people from his mercenary team—something he invested a lot on, by the way—and that could include his own life!

Obviously, sending him and his entire mercenary team to lead an area was more of a diversionary tactic, for them to be sacrificed. But he never liked or respected that Fargo, nor would he willingly give his life to others at all!

”Boss, we take advantage!” he said. ”After waiting for so long, aren’t you hungry for blood?! Everyone should be weakened by now!”

This was Digong, a level 24 man who had a permanent sneer on his face. There was a maliciousness around him though, as he glared at the wall of the enemy territory.

He was here with a vindictive heart, aiming to get revenge for his brother, Temp, who died during the previous war with Alterra.

Kon looked at him and nodded, looking in the direction of Alterra.

They waited for a few more flares to light up before finally heading in. Hopefully, all the powerhouses would leave this area even a bit more vulnerable.

”Grab a slave!” he yelled and they rushed over because their lives literally depended on it.

They worked fast and they barrelled through without looking back. Using random slaves as shields, they jumped over the access their predecessors created.

The siege shields had been mostly burnt, but there were some that could still provide a decent bolster.

Anyway, they were lucky because the forces really were stretched, with a lot of the powerhouses going towards the flares. They did not miss this opportunity and nearly two-thirds successfully managed to go through!

They jumped as far as they could and some directly went past the easements!

Alterra didn’t make things easy for them at all, however.

The West and Southwest areas of the territory had dense housing areas, and there were a lot of evacuation houses set up here.

There were plenty of SOPs that the territory prepared here. For instance, in certain peripheral communities, some built-in traps were camouflaged with the buildings.

Some houses there would have pendulum weapons hidden under balconies, which would then be activated by the team of citizens hiding there, hoping to cause damage to those who passed through.

Certain streets would also have walls to block the side streets to trap the enemies. Because of the enemy strength, the Alterrans had to move much faster because it wouldn’t have been effective for long.

In these cases, they’d take advantage of the dense mobs to do bulk attacks, and keep them there until their own elites arrived to finish them off.

Sometimes, they’d even rain down oil, and then light them on fire—with elemental flames, for maximum effectiveness.

If things got dangerous, the citizens would hide back to the designated evacuation houses, which were retrofitted with extra sturdy doors made of steel to shield them.

Alterra was definitely taking advantage of the innate strength of the buildings. While their durability was limited in this level of war, they were still strong enough to handle some basic attacks—at least until more guards arrived to the rescue.

Like this, some weaker trespassers were stopped at certain streets, but a lot had managed to get past using the chaos.

Some of these were Kon and Digong, who were skilled and didn’t get distracted with their goals of heading deeper in the territory. Kon was fueled with pride, while Digong with hate.

”They’re going to pay!” he said with gritted teeth. How dare a village take away his brother!

Unknown to him, there were dark eyes following his movements from a nearby balcony.

”So many places to sneak in, you happened to enter here…” the voice uttered from above, its owner watching some of the trespassers with sharp eyes. ”Is it fate?”

This was Kimmy. Her house was a designated temporary evacuation house, and there were about 15 other people there with her. However, everyone else was preparing to move on the ground level. It was only her in the balcony this time.

Because many people humiliated her back then, she wasn’t exactly certain who the child’s father was. So… her goal was to see each one of those men killed.

She had been there every time the guards killed a person from Basset, so she knew that there was one man missing. Look—he brought himself here.

Kimmy’s face did not change as she raised her bow, following the man’s form.

Few people knew that as a rich daughter, one of her hobbies was visiting the gun ranges. If there were monsters or enemies right in front of her, she had her limitations, but if she could have her shot in peace like this, it was basically a sure hit.

She saved up a lot in order to buy a superior Class D weapon. Raine gave her back most of her money as soon as she regained lucidity, retaining just enough to keep the Belluga running smoothly.

A Class D weapon, if used right, should still be able to do some damage at the man’s level.

Besides, a Class D weapon was not the only thing she bought with that money.

Kimmy slightly turned to look sideways, eyes fixed on the pink crib, and her dark eyes immediately softened.

”Don’t worry baby. I will get rid of everything that will dirty your existence,” she said, and she released the arrow—finally completing her promise to her child.
