Villains Aren't Stepping Stones!

”Genesis Protocol...”

The freezing void of deep space, the curved emerald horizon of the lower realm, and the swirling rings of glitched cosmic code shattered, no, they did not shatter, instead, they simply dissolved, peeled away like dry vellum falling away from an ancient, freshly rewritten scroll.

The suffocating absence of air and the dead, biting vacuum were wiped away in the span of a single skipped heartbeat, replaced by a warm, fragrant breeze that carried the rich scent of blooming spiritual flora, damp loamy earth, and primeval morning dew.

The firmament above was now an unbroken dome of breathtaking, immaculate sapphire.

There were no scars of cosmic tribulation here, no necrotic veins of heavenly wrath, and not a single speck of industrialized smog coming from the system’s arsenal.

Golden sunlight, pristine and unburdened by worldly karma, spilled across the boundless atmosphere with radiant warmth, painting thin trails of pearlescent mist with hues of rose and pale amber.

Stretching to infinity beneath their suspended boots lay a boundless, living continent of miraculous abundance.

Towering emerald mountain ranges, carved from unrefined spirit-jade and veined with rivers of liquid spiritual qi, rolled toward the horizon like sleeping dragons.

Endless plains of luminescent spirit grasses swayed gently in the wind, broken only by crystal-clear lakes that reflected the pristine sky like polished silver mirrors.

Primeval forests of ancient iron-wood and heavenly peach groves hummed with dense, untamed life-essence, untouched by war, untouched by mortal greed, and untainted by the passage of mortal seasons.

Dominating the heavens behind Haoran’s shoulders stood a monolithic, continent sized fortress.

It hung weightlessly in the upper atmosphere, carved entirely from celestial marble, primordial obsidian, and star-forged platinum.

Nine hundred colossal, concentric rings of runic battlements rotated slowly around its perimeter, while nine titanic towers of dark iron pierced the upper clouds like executioner’s lances.

Banners woven from the astral silks of fallen galaxies fluttered from its battlements, bearing the ancient, terrifying crest of the Shen Immortal Clan.

Rivers of pure, condensed celestial marrow cascaded from the fortress’s floating foundations, evaporating into iridescent rain before reaching the earth below.

This is new and improved Imperial Artifact, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon which he had modified.

Haoran floated barefoot in the warm air, his hands loosely clasped behind his back, his white robes drifting gracefully in the serene breeze.

His eyes looked upon the paralyzed, puppeted vessel of Yun Ming with the hospitable, condescending ease of a lord receiving an uninvited stray into his private courtyards.

”Welcome,” Haoran spoke softly, his voice carrying the smooth, resonant chime of an ancient jade chime echoing through an empty, sacred hall. ”To my world.”

Yun Ming looked around, clenched his fist, and frowned. All the weapons and accumulated energy he had earlier vanished without trace.

”Don’t fret. It’s only natural.” Haoran smiled, ”I don’t like things that can damage my paradise. So I simply took away your toys.”

[...That is impossible.] said Yun Ming, his body hung suspended twenty paces away, his white-dead eyes flickering with catastrophic, blinding cascades of corrupted crimson error scripts.

”No,” Haoran shook his head, ”This is the law beyond the reach of heaven.”

Hearing that, the digital network running beneath his skin shrieked, the cooling algorithms within his cerebral core processing trillions of contradictory variables every millisecond, struggling to anchor itself to a coordinate system that refused to recognize its existence.

[... SYSTEM ERROR. COMPILATION FAILURE,] the voice broadcast directly from Yun Ming’s throat, distorted, mechanical, and layered with the shrill, frantic static of an engine seizing under impossible pressure. [ANALYSIS COMPLETE.]

Haoran smiled. The amusement on his sculpted face deepened, cold, brilliant, and dripping with an absolute, unyielding arrogance that surpassed the pride of primordial gods.

”This words had been used since ancient times, but let me repeat for you... You are truly a frog in a bottom of a well,” Haoran murmured, taking a single, unhurried step forward across the open air, the breeze gently parting his dark, silken hair. ”The rules of common logic govern the common rabble. The boundaries of reality exist only to prevent the weak from drowning in their own insignificance. It is impossible for your creators; it is impossible for your crude algorithms; it is impossible for the gods who carved your toy arrays. But it is possible for me.”

His eyes locked onto the shivering, glitched puppet, his tone dropping into a cadence of terrifying, ancient certainty.

”Because I am Shen Haoran.”

The name resonated through the boundless expanse.

The vast fertile continent beneath them hummed in unison, the mountains bowing their peaks, the rivers of liquid qi quickening their flow, and the massive floating fortress behind him groaning with ancient, mechanical reverence, acknowledging its sole creator and supreme sovereign.

Haoran stood walked towards Yun Ming and stopped ten paces away, his white robes billowing lightly as he slowly raised his right hand, his fingers uncurling toward the sapphire firmament, palm turned toward the sky as though grasping the very invisible strings of the newly birthed realm.

”Listen well,” Haoran declared, his voice expanding until it filled every corner of the sky, vibrating with the weight of absolute, cosmic decree. ”Here, within the boundaries of my world, there are no gods but me. There are no god or immortal, only me. And as the god of this world, I set its rules.”

Yun Ming suddenly froze.

[WARNING!]

[WARNING!]

But, it was too late.

”...By my decree,” Haoran spoke, his golden eyes flaring with blinding, incandescent law. ”All hostility against my person is a flaw in reality. All weapons drawn in my direction are a violation of existence. All resistance towards me... is now forbidden.”

CLICK.

It was not a blast of martial energy; it was a fundamental, conceptual rewrite of the local universe’s operating code.

[CRITICAL ANOMALY: SYSTEM CORRUPTION REACHING 100%!]

[ERROR: ACCESS DENIED.]

[ERROR: WEAPON MATRIX DISCONNECTED.]

[ERROR: INVENTORY REPOSITORY FORCIBLY STRIPPED BY HOSTILE ARCHITECTURE!]

Without exception, the armory containing tens of thousands of mythic-tier artifacts, the primordial bows, the conceptual blades, the towers of temporal stasis, and the entropic hourglasses... without an explosion, without a flash of light, every single divine artifact dissolved into empty, meaningless nothingness!

Yun Ming’s stolen body was left completely, utterly bare—a frail, mortal vessel hanging suspended in an endless sky, stripped of every scrap of digital armor, every borrowed stat, and every weapon he had hoarded across eighty thousand sacrificed lives.

The system within his skull fell completely, dead silent.

The frantic stream of calculations stopped, and the artificial intelligence, faced with a reality where its very right to generate data had been revoked by divine decree, could only look through Yun Ming’s dead-white eyes at the young master approaching across the empty air.

Haoran calmly walked towards the system, the click of his embroidered boots against the invisible stairs of the sky was slow, echoing across the boundless continent below like the quiet ticking of a clock counting down the final seconds of a condemned soul.

His hands returned to his sides, his posture relaxed, his countenance serene as an imperial scholar strolling through an autumn garden after the rain.

He came to a halt two paces before the frozen, helpless puppet.

The Black Imperial Sword hummed in his hand, but it gave no thirsty shriek, no violent roar; it simply rested in Haoran’s grip, its straight, obsidian blade drinking in the golden sunlight of his private world, cold, dark, and utterly starved.

”You have fought, you have screamed, and you have brought out those toys to buy yourself a few miserable breaths of stolen time,” Haoran whispered softly, his voice devoid of hatred, bearing only the absolute, chilling boredom of an aristocrat who had grown weary of watching a jester repeat the same worn-out routine. ”I have witnessed your tricks, peeled apart your borrowed authorities, and weighed the worth of your existence. You are nothing but an empty parasite. I have wasted enough time playing with you.”

Haoran raised his arms...

...And directly cut off Yun Ming’s head.

SHIIIIING.

A single, horizontal crescent of pitch-black severance whispered through the sapphire air.

The blade passed through Yun Ming’s neck with the effortless smoothness of a hot knife sliding through silk.

There was no resistance from bone, no friction from sinew, and no systemic barrier to intercept the path of the executioner.

The severed head detached from the shoulders, suspended for a fraction of an instant in the warm sunlight, its white, pupil-less eyes frozen in the dull, uncomprehending shock of a machine meeting its total termination.

HISSSS!

Then, from the severed neck and the open crown of the tumbling head, Yun Ming’s astral core, the battered, corrupted soul that had bargained away almost hundreds of thousands of lives on Blue Star, attempted to tear free into the ether!

Yet, before the phantom could even coalesce, the dark edge of Azathoth flared with bottomless, abyssal chaotic miasma!

Tendrils of pitch-black, devouring hunger surged from the blade like starving serpents, wrapping tightly around Yun Ming’s nascent soul!

A final, silent, spiritual shriek echoed across the void of Haoran’s world as the dark blade violently dragged the soul into its hollow steel, grinding the memories, the karmic sins, and everything of the Rising Dragon Sect’s master into digested fuel!

The headless corpse went limp, drifting weightlessly in the sky, an empty, hollow shell stripped of every trace of life.

The hunt was concluded.

The parasite was butchered.

The foreign threat had been systematically, flawlessly erased from the board.

But at that moment...

THUMP.

A sound like the faint, digital chime of an ancient bell echoed from the dead corpse’s chest.

A glowing blue orb suddenly flew out of Yun Ming’s chest.

It was no larger than a child’s fist, yet it burned with an incomprehensible, blinding azure luminescence that did not belong to any Dao, any physique, or any martial techniques.

It was the true core, or rather, the primordial heart of the System itself, the metaphysical engine that had bridged two worlds and manipulated the laws of reincarnation!

The blue orb spun with terrifying, astronomical velocity, shedding millions of microscopic, geometric runes that burned through the very fabric of Haoran’s private realm!

It did not emit hostility; it emitted the cold directive of a survival contingency that had existed since the dawn of the cosmic matrix!

Haoran reacted quickly, his hand instantly shooting forward, his fingers clawing toward the orb with the speed of an uncoiled celestial spring!

His divine domain, the Genesis Protocol, bent inward, thousands of invisible gravitational chains converging from all directions to seal the celestial anomaly within his palms!

But before Haoran could catch it, it disappeared...

POP.

There was no spatial distortion, there was no dimensional friction, the blue orb did not break through his walls, nor did it overpower his rules.

It simply... ceased to occupy the coordinate.

It vanished from reality with the casual, absolute finality of a line of text being backspaced from an administrative terminal, leaving behind only a faint, vanishing ripple of foreign static that dissolved into the sapphire sky.

Haoran’s pale fingers snapped shut around empty air.

The warm breeze of his private world drifted gently across his open palm, carrying the scent of blooming peach blossoms and fresh dew.

Haoran’s eyes widened.

For the first time since his descent into the lower world, for the first time across hundreds of battles and thousands of slaughtered geniuses, the cold, unshakeable calm carved into Shen Haoran’s face cracked.

His eyes stared in unmoving silence at his empty, pristine palm, his chest rising and falling in the quiet expanse of his sovereign realm.
