Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Borrowing a Knife to Kill Someone_1

”Hold firm to your beliefs, grip your weapons tight; that’s all you need to do.”

No sooner had Lance’s words ended than chaos erupted from across the way. The ambushing soldiers all tensed.

”Hold steady! Wait for them to come closer before firing.” Lance remained as calm as ever, gesturing to quiet the somewhat panicked soldiers.

His gaze, however, was on a building in the distance.

Rampaging bandits swarmed into the square, smashing and looting everything in sight. They were like locusts, leaving nothing in their wake but destruction. But Lance was not at all worried. The only establishments still operating on the square’s edges were the tavern and the casino, as he had moved everything else out days before.

The thugs burst into the granary but found not a single grain; the drawers they forced open were also empty. Their fortunes changed when they discovered the casino.

”Quick! There are people here!”

With a shout, the bandits, who had found nothing else, mercilessly unleashed their fury on those they found.

The casino doors were smashed open, and bandits flooded in, scuffling with the bouncers. But how could those common thugs stand a chance against the bandits? Especially considering the disparity in their numbers, the sounds of slaughter soon filled the air.

”Money! So much money!”

One bandit cried out in amazement as he cracked open the cashier’s counter. Turning his head, he was cleaved to death by a sword. His hold on the money failed, scattering it on the ground and leading to even greater chaos.

Similarly, countless bandits burst into the tavern, from which only the sound of a gunshot and fierce cries of battle could be heard.

Watching this unfold, Lance remained expressionless, but the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.

He would not act personally but could use others to execute his will.

Those bandits had none of his scruples. Any living creature they saw was their target. Under the stimulus of money and goods, they would even fight amongst themselves, thus depleting their numbers further.

For what were they fighting? No one knew.

When sack after sack of Coins were moved out from the treasury, greed sparked looting among the bandits, with more and more pouring into the casino.

Some were there to snatch riches, while others just wanted to protect themselves and prevent others from getting close. They wanted to leave, but the entrance was continually clogged by new bandits, causing severe congestion.

At that point, it was not about killing for money anymore. Nobody cared about the Coins that fell to the ground, trampled and mixed with blood. They had lost all reason, plunging into madness, endlessly slashing at the people around them.

Those outside had no idea what was happening. Upon entering, they quickly began a new round of fighting.

The fierce combat soon filled the air of the casino with a strong stench of blood, masking an odd smell.

More importantly, the sheer number of deaths deterred more bandits from entering as they beheld the bodies on the ground. Blood and various severed limbs nearly covered the casino floor.

An Abyss was created by human hands!

By that time, very few were left standing in the casino, all showing wounds to varying degrees. Blood seeped from their bodies, dripping to the floor.

Even bandits accustomed to living on the edge found the immense pressure unbearable. When the adrenaline faded, the fear of death seized their minds.

”AAAH!!”

Suddenly, one bandit charged crazily towards the outside with a sword. He hadn’t died in the recent melee but was cut down by the swords of other bandits.

The sight shocked the other bandits. Even though the Coins lay submerged in pools of blood, they still dared not step forward for a long time.

”Get the fuck out of the way!” The commotion caught the boss’s attention.

Or rather, with only this place and the tavern left around the vast square, the bosses had long taken notice of this area. However, the recent upheaval had kept them outside, unable to get in.

Several of them were shocked by the tragic state of the casino.

They originally thought there might be some powerful figure inside resisting so many people. But upon entering, they discovered that most of the corpses belonged to bandits from all three gangs, with even more being unaffiliated individuals.

Yet, they also saw the Coins soaked in Flesh on the ground.

The few exchanged glances, but none showed any intention of continuing the looting. The chaos just now was too great. At least thirty people had died inside, with casualties from each gang. Fighting any further would benefit no one.

If there had only been two gangs, they might have started fighting. But with three, no one was confident they could take down the other two. This created an oddly stable situation.

”Do you feel it? Something’s not right here.” Leader Three looked at the bloody scene before him, anxiety welling up inside him.

They hadn’t encountered a living soul all the way here. Upon reaching the square, they found only the casino and the tavern; not even a chicken was in sight anywhere else.

He had a bad feeling, as if they had been deliberately lured here. He also regretted not leaving any survivors earlier.

But the other two didn’t care at all. Who else in the town could resist? Those mercenaries who ran away at first sight?

”Don’t joke. Let’s talk about something practical.”

”How do we divide the money?”

”Splitting it into three shares is the fairest.”

”Look at those corpses. My men make up the majority. I took this place down and suffered the greatest losses, so I want forty percent. You two can split the remaining sixty.”

”Fuck off! If your men died like flies, it’s because they were weaklings. And you still want more money? Dream on!”

”You want to fight me?”

”Who’s afraid of whom!”

Leader Three, watching the two argue, couldn’t help but focus on the division of money, but before he could open his mouth...

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out.

”BANG!”

Leader Three instinctively closed his eyes and then felt something sticky hit his face.

When he opened his eyes, he saw the leader opposite him with a bloody hole in his head; what had hit his face was a mix of brains and blood.

At that moment, his first reaction wasn’t disgust but fear. He quickly ran back to his team and shouted loudly, ”We’ve got enemies!”

But another phrase spread among the bandits before he even spoke: ”Fuck! They killed the boss! Let’s take them down!”

A shout from an unknown source made everyone react. One person aimed his weapon at a nearby bandit, and a new round of chaos began.

”Take them down!”

”Whoever kills them becomes the new boss!”

”Ah! I’m gravely wounded and down!”

This bout of chaos settled down quickly. They were right about one thing: one could not beat two.

The bandit group of the leader who had died was eliminated by the other two. Actually, after a few were killed, the rest surrendered.
