Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl

Chapter 545: Chapter 284: Married, Just Like That

He swallowed hard and said to Yan’s mother, ”Yan’s mother, my Yangzi is still young, and your Yan is young too. Even if they got married, it would be useless—what’s the point if they can’t consummate the marriage? Those people... those people would know it’s fake with one look. You can’t fool them.”

Li Laoda’s younger brother, Li Laoer, had a pained frown on his face. He wrung his hands nonstop, looking pleadingly at Zhang Dashuan. Meanwhile, Yan’s mother was crying, begging He, ”Huai Zi’s mother, I know this is a difficult situation, but I’m out of options. If I don’t do something, I won’t have any peace of mind. If she marries your Yangzi and still gets taken away by them, then I can only blame the heavens!”

He was truly in a bind. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to help, but even for a rushed match, you had to see if the two were suitable. You couldn’t just marry them off haphazardly. Not only was her Zhang Yang young, but his mind was completely focused on his studies right now. He probably wouldn’t be willing to marry Yan. Seeing Yan’s mother, a mess of tears and snot, He didn’t know what to do.

Zhang Dashuan said to Li Laoer in a low voice, ”Gengyun, let’s not offer you empty platitudes. You know what my Yangzi is like. Never mind whether he’d agree to the marriage or not. Even if he did, and they were wed, it would have to be believable. The two of them are just kids. A marriage like that would be useless. You have to think of a more reliable plan. How is running around like a headless fly going to solve anything?”

Li Laoer’s miserable face now looked even older than his brother Li Laoda’s. His eyes were dim and lifeless as he said with trembling lips, ”What plan could I possibly have?”

Zhang Dashuan sighed. It felt awful to refuse the proposal, especially since Yan’s entire life was on the line. His conscience was tormented. However, if he agreed, even if they somehow managed to fool those people, his own son Zhang Yang’s future would be in jeopardy.

He steeled herself and said, ”Yan’s mother, we’re all honest folk. We can’t just think about the present; we have to consider the future. At their age, Yangzi and Yan can’t get married. Even if you’re trying to find a husband for Yan, the boy should at least be of marrying age to be believable. Otherwise, isn’t it obviously a sham?”

Her words were a wake-up call for Li Laoer, and his eyes instantly lit up.

He thought differently from his wife. He just wanted to help his daughter escape this disaster. His wife, on the other hand, hoped to marry their daughter to Zhang Yang, which would solve the problem and gain them a desirable son-in-law.

Li Laoer mulled over He’s words and realized she was right. Once he’d thought it through, he apologized to Zhang Dashuan and his wife, then pulled his own wife along and took his leave.

After leaving the Zhang family’s home, Yan’s mother held her tongue at first. But once they had passed the Zheng Family Courtyard and were on the village road, she started complaining, asking her husband why he didn’t beg a little more. She was sure if he had pleaded a bit longer, the Zhang couple wouldn’t have had the heart to refuse and would have agreed.

Li Laoer shot his wife a glare. ”You foolish woman! What’s more important, a son-in-law or our daughter? If we lose our daughter, we lose the son-in-law too! All you can think about is marrying Yan to Zhang Yang, but he’s too young! He can’t do anything to help. In the end, our daughter will still be taken away, and do you think that son-in-law will still acknowledge you then?”

His words left Yan’s mother speechless.

Li Laoer said, ”Let’s hurry home and go talk to Brother Gengtian. We’ll ask him to help find a suitable boy, and we’ll marry Yan off properly.”

And so, the two of them hurried away.

Juhua never imagined she would get married under such hasty circumstances. Not only was her wedding not postponed for two years, it was moved up. And it was all happening in a complete daze.

There was no time for hopeful daydreams, no leisure for sweet moments, and certainly no room for shyness. ’What’s there to be shy about?’ In her opinion, they could skip the formal ceremony and just move in together. But there was a downside to that: if it happened too quietly, no one would know she and Huai Zi were married.

So even if they were keeping things simple, they still had to hire a matchmaker and prepare a few banquet tables for relatives, friends, and neighbors. While they were busy running off their feet, Qingmu and Zhang Huai were once again summoned by Village Chief Li Gengtian to discuss matters, and they didn’t return until late at night.

Mrs. Yang had been completely unprepared to suddenly be marrying off her daughter. Although this was something she had always longed for, now that the moment had arrived, she was incredibly reluctant to let her go. That night, she squeezed onto her daughter’s bed, patting her on the back and whispering with her for half the night.

Juhua was touched to be held in her mother’s arms, but some of the more private things her mother said, despite her own self-proclaimed thick skin, were still terribly awkward to hear. All she could do was keep murmuring, ”Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.”
