Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl

Chapter 481: Chapter 252: Zhang Huai’s Reaction

Zhang Huai froze for a moment. He suddenly realized Juhua’s veil had been ripped off. ’Is she terribly ashamed? Afraid of what everyone will say?’

He cursed himself for losing his head. He’d been so stunned by the sight of her scabby skin, which he hadn’t seen in ages, that he’d forgotten how hurt and upset Juhua must be. He quickly scanned her face. Seeing her staring at Xiaonian’s wife with astonishment rather than shame or tears, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But his relief quickly turned to fury. At the same time as Liu Xiaomei, he rounded on the meddling woman.

Guizhi was also surprised, but she quickly composed herself. She looked at Xiaonian’s wife reproachfully. ”Sister-in-law Zhou, that wasn’t right of you. Why are you putting your hands on people for no reason?”

Xiaonian’s wife feigned remorse as she spoke to Juhua. ”Oh, I’m so sorry! Juhua, your veil looked so pretty, I just wanted a closer look. I guess I pulled a bit too hard. I really didn’t mean to.”

Her explanation was completely unconvincing. The insincerity in her voice was impossible to hide.

And how could she hide it? She was overjoyed to see the stunned, pained look on Huai Zi’s face.

Guizhi frowned. She didn’t believe a word of it. ’But what possessed the woman?’ she wondered. ’Why would she rip off Juhua’s veil?’

Zhang Huai stared coldly at Xiaonian’s wife, as if seeing right through her petty scheming. He clenched his fists, took a step toward her, and warned in an icy tone, ”I don’t care if it was an accident or not. You’d better not cause any more trouble, or don’t blame me for hitting you. This isn’t Qingbei Village; this is Qingnan Village! The women in our village are decent folk, not like you.”

Liu Xiaomei added furiously, ”Well, we have one now! Sticking her claws in someone’s face for no reason. What kind of wife acts like that?” She was so livid she no longer cared what she said.

Xiaonian’s wife was enraged—it was humiliating to be cursed to her face like that. She wanted to argue, but one look at Zhang Huai’s dark expression told her he was ready to throw a punch. He probably would, too. Even Liu Xiaomei and Guizhi were glaring at her. She swallowed her pack of lies and didn’t dare utter a single spiteful word.

She was the daughter-in-law of Shorty Zhou’s younger brother. Her family was from Qingbei Village, and she had married into Qingnan Village the year before Guizhi. Last year, she’d had someone try to arrange a match between her younger sister and Zhang Huai, but He had turned down the offer. She’d been resentful about it ever since. Now, seeing Zhang Huai’s reaction, she finally understood: he was in love with Juhua.

She seethed with resentment. ’I’d heard this ugly girl’s face was covered in a rash,’ she thought. ’I refuse to believe he could actually like her. I’ll just rip this veil off and see if he can still smile then!’

There are just some people in the world who do things to hurt others for no personal gain. By using Juhua to get at Huai Zi, Xiaonian’s wife wasn’t going to achieve her goal—making Huai Zi change his mind and marry her sister. But she just wanted to see him suffer.

The woman hadn’t had much contact with the Zheng Family and didn’t know what they were like. Otherwise, she never would have dared to bully Juhua so openly.

Juhua watched everyone’s reactions as if she were watching a play. She looked at the woman’s shifty eyes and devious expression, then said to her flatly, ”I can see you did that on purpose. I don’t know why you did it, but you listen to me. This is the last time. If you ever try to pull something like this again, don’t be surprised when my father and brother show up at your door. Do you take me for a pushover?”

’This is the type of person who, if you give them an inch, they’ll take a mile. Familiarity breeds contempt. If I don’t put my foot down today, she’ll think I’m weak and an easy target. And even though she unwittingly did me a favor, I’m certainly not going to thank her for it.’

She was at a loss for words. ’Could there be a bigger coincidence?’

’Here I was, trying to figure out how to reveal the rash on my face to Zhang Huai, and someone else went and did it for me. I didn’t even have to lift a finger.’

’No matter how you look at it, this whole farce seems perfectly scripted. Even the villain is perfectly cast. It’s flawless. Hmm, though if Xiaonian’s wife had been a little girl instead, it would’ve been even more dramatic.’

’Still, the woman’s behavior is just bizarre. She clearly ripped off my veil on purpose. Was she really just curious to see the rash on my face? What an idiot!’

’All in all, I’m pretty satisfied with Huai Zi’s reaction. He froze for a second, and the pained look, the hurt filling his eyes... it was all plain to see. It made me feel a pang of guilt, though. I’m really putting him through the wringer, aren’t I?’

When Xiaonian’s wife heard Juhua call her out so directly and issue such a sharp warning, she was stunned. ’How can this girl be so merciless with her words?’
