Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl

Chapter 341: Chapter 181: Getting Scolded

Back at the Liu Family’s home, after Juhua had left, Liu Yungen finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. Tears streamed down his cheeks, but he stubbornly stifled his sobs, not daring to cry out loud.

Liu Yunlan saw her brother’s bullied expression and remembered how Juhua had rendered him speechless with one retort after another. She couldn’t help but turn away and stifle a laugh.

Mrs. Zhang, Liu Fugui’s wife, saw her son crying while her daughter was laughing off to the side. She quickly pulled her daughter’s arm and frowned. ”Your brother is being bullied like this, and you’re laughing? What for? If I had just interrupted earlier and scolded Yungen first, that Juhua wouldn’t have said all that to him. Why did you hold me back? How is that Juhua so sharp-tongued? At first, I thought she was the quiet type, but who knew she could talk circles around people? Our Yungen couldn’t get a single word in...”

Liu Yunlan thought, ’She’s not just sharp, she’s incredibly sharp.’

’This ”little sister-in-law” is no simple character.’

The term ”little sister-in-law” had popped into her head involuntarily, and her face flushed red. She silently cursed herself. ’Nothing’s even remotely decided yet, and here I am already calling her ”little sister-in-law”.’

She suppressed her amusement and said to Mrs. Zhang, ”Mom, Yungen needs someone to set him straight. It was clearly his fault, but he refuses to admit it. Scolding him the other day did no good—it went in one ear and out the other. Today he finally met his match, didn’t he? Juhua was right. What would he have done that day if Big Brother Qingmu hadn’t walked you home? He shouldn’t think people are obligated to be kind to him. The day he runs into someone truly unreasonable, then he’ll really have something to cry about.”

Liu Yungen was already on the verge of tears after hearing his mother’s words. When his sister chimed in, he finally burst out crying, sobbing brokenly, ”I... I barely said a few words... It was... it was all her talking...”

Liu Yunlan’s expression hardened. ”Who told you to call Big Brother Qingmu a ’bastard’? Can’t you tell right from wrong? Did someone have to get tough with you before you realized you were wrong and agreed to go apologize? If you keep this up, you won’t just get scolded—one day you might get beaten. It’ll be too late for regrets after someone breaks your legs.”

Mrs. Zhang quickly grabbed her daughter, saying anxiously, ”Alright, now. Doesn’t Yungen already know he was wrong? He even said he’d go apologize to Qingmu. Yunlan, Juhua just had a fight with Yungen. If she goes back and says a few bad things to her brother, will the Zheng Family still come with a marriage proposal?”

Before Liu Yunlan could answer, Liu Yungen’s tear-filled eyes widened. He stared at his mother and sister in astonishment, loudly cutting off Liu Yunlan as she was about to speak. ”No way! Sister, are you really going to marry that bast—that Zheng Qingmu? Absolutely not! I won’t allow it. I don’t want to be related to that ugly girl—with a relative like that, she’d drive me to an early grave. Sister, you saw how vicious she was just now. If you really marry Zheng Qingmu and have a little sister-in-law like her, will you ever have a day of peace?”

Liu Yunlan was so angry she laughed. ”You won’t allow it? Since when is my marriage your decision to make? Yes, she’s sharp, but every word she said was reasonable. If you were a reasonable person yourself, it would be one thing to not thank him, but how could you keep harping on about getting compensation for the eggs and even call him a ’bastard’? If you hadn’t insulted him, would she have said anything to you? Mom, you saw it too. Before Yungen came back, Juhua was sitting there, perfectly well-behaved, without saying an unnecessary word.”

Mrs. Zhang nodded repeatedly at this, agreeing that Juhua had seemed both well-behaved and obedient.

Liu Yungen opened his mouth to argue again, but his sister shot him a furious glare. ”Do you think they’re just dying to be related to our family? You won’t allow it? What a joke. For all we know, they’re probably thinking this very moment: ’The Liu Family has such a troublesome son. If we become in-laws and end up with a little... end up with a relative like that, won’t he drive us to an early grave? Will we ever have a day of peace? We’d better call this marriage off.’”

Liu Yungen saw that his sister had thrown his own words about Juhua right back at him, only now *he* was the one being disparaged. He was furious, but once again, he was left speechless.

He suddenly realized that his sister and Juhua were the same kind of person—every word they said was logical, leaving no room for rebuttal. In fact, a lot of women were sharp-tongued like that.

He had never studied the *Analects*. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have needed such a long train of thought; a single phrase—”Of all people, women and petty men are the most difficult to deal with”—would have perfectly summarized his feelings about women at that moment.

Mrs. Zhang had no idea what her son was thinking. Hearing her daughter’s words made her anxious. If the Zheng Family really thought that way, they certainly wouldn’t be coming with a marriage proposal. Liu Fugui had even gone to see Yang Defa before the new year. Would all that effort have been for nothing?
