After hearing what his mother had said, Yue Tingfeng knew something was off. He knew his mother way too well, She would not have whispered intentionally, as if she feared someone would overhear their conversation. It was quite obvious that she had her guard up against someone. Yue Tingfeng said, “What’s wrong mom? Who is with you now?”

Mrs.Yue continued to whisper. She said, “Don’t worry, alright, I will not set you up to fail so trust me. I am shopping right now.”

“Mom, please tell me who you’re shopping with first? You’re going to treat me lunch?” Tingfeng asked

“Not me, someone else.” Mrs.Yue replied.

Yue Tingfeng could hear someone called Mrs.Yue through the phone.

“I have informed him, just come over after you’re done with work. My son, he’ll listen to me…”

This exchange made Tingfeng frowned a little. “Mom, what sort of trouble have gotten to you now?” Yue Tingfeng asked.

Without any warning, he could hear a few beeps through his phone indicating he was put on hold.

Yan Qingsi noticed Yue Tingfeng grew increasingly frustrated as he was talking on the phone. She asked, “What’s the matter?”

“I think my mom might have gotten herself in some trouble.” Yue Tingfeng replied.

“Should we go now then?” Yan Qingsi asked further.

Yue Tingfeng looked at his watch on his wrist and said, “We have half an hour left till we’re done, don’t leave yet, I’ll be taking you to Leisure Palace later after I’m done with work”

“For a meal?” Yan Qingsi asked.

“I hope as much.” Yue Tingfeng replied.

“Are you sure it’s nothing?” Yan Qingsi asked worriedly.

Yue Tingfeng let out a happy grin as he noticed how worried Qingsi seemed. “Hmph, I’ve never expected you would actually worry about my little old lady, when did you two grew so close behind my back?”

Hearing his snarky remark, Yan Qingsi rolled her eyes and said, “That is your own mother, she’s not mine, if her own son isn’t even worried about her own wellbeing then why should I.”

Yue Tingfeng gave her a tight hug and said, “Don’t worry, no one would even dare lift a finger against my mom in Luo City, just sit tight and take a short break alright. I had someone accepted an offer on your behalf, here are some documents for you to look through alright.”

As he said that, Yue Tingfeng took out some files from his desk and handed it to Qingsi. She looked through it and was surprised to see what had been offered. It was an international brand of perfume that had apparently signed her on to be the spokesperson of the entire Asia continent.

With her current reputation in the entertainment industry, it would be impossible to land such an opportunity. She had absolutely no idea as to how many strings Tingfeng had to pull in order to pull this off.

With their complicated mess of a relationship, he had zero obligation to keep helping her out like this.

However, Yan Qingsi could not be happy. Instead, she felt as if a rock had been crushing her heart by the weight alone. She tugged at Tingfeng’s shoulder a little, as she could not look him straight in his eyes. Keeping her head lowered, she simply said, “Yue Tingfeng… Please, I’m begging you, stop treating me so well.”

Her chin was instantly lifted by Yue Tingfeng. “Shouldn’t you be looking me in the eye when you’re speaking to me?”

As he told her that, he could not help but think about how beautiful Yan Qingsi’s eyes were, she was always so hard to read, so complicated, and she overthinks way too often, her eyes, however, looked cold as if she had been struggling with her own conscience.

He knew exactly why Yan Qingsi refused his, if anyone had been used to being so dependant on another person, that person will lose the ability to survive alone, completely independent of the other person. However, if by any unfortunate circumstances, the sole support that person was so used to having for so long had suddenly disappeared, the only outcome would be an unforgiving death sentence for that person.

Just like any wild animals out there in the dense forest. The only way to live and survive was to be completely self-reliance, independent of anything and everything. If the animal did not abide by this rule, the animal would be at the bottom of the food chain, completely vulnerable to every predator.

The sudden presence of Yue Tingfeng in Yan Qingsi’s life had thrown her self-reliance survival completely off course. He had single-handedly derailed her life’s balance.

The two of them had crossed paths so much, and from the outside, it seemed as if Yan Qingsi had the upper hand, but in all honesty, it had always been Yue Tingfeng’s persistent intrusion in her life, forcing her to let him in.

And even though Yan Qingsi had been fighting back and refused him all this time, but what exactly was the outcome?
