Re-Awakened :I Ascend as an SSS-Ranked Dragon Summoner

Noah’s eyes were still on the screen as he walked past the corridor to his room.

He pushed the door open, sat on the edge of his bed, and pulled his full status screen up.

Noah looked at the screen.

’171.’

Not with any particular feeling attached to it. Just the number sitting there, and him sitting with it.

He scrolled to the attributes first because that was where the real information lived.

Strength 1,847. He remembered when 350 had felt like something he had genuinely worked for, something that represented months of fighting things that were actively trying to kill him. He thought about Angel’s soul form, ten times amplification on everything, blood armor layered over enhanced muscle, the version of her that had made the ground shake when she moved. He had respected that fight. He had felt her hits land. That version of Angel hitting him now would feel like a strong wind.

’That’s not a comfortable thought,’ he noted. ’Not because it’s wrong. Because of what it means about the gap between me and everyone else.’

147,600 HP.

He sat with that one longer.

In the throne room, with Ego’s hammer caving his ribcage in and his health sitting at ten, he had done the math in his head and the math had been very simple. One more clean hit and the quest would fail. He had been genuinely close to dying, the kind of close where your body starts making decisions without consulting your brain because your brain has run out of useful suggestions.

’That version of me,’ he thought, ’is genuinely unrecognizable from here.’

Void Energy 312,000. His old pool had been 24,000. He remembered the castle clearly. Fighting through waves of knights without his equipment, without his void abilities, nothing but his body and chi, and when his abilities had briefly mattered it was the regeneration eating through whatever reserves remained after each engagement. The system warnings stacking while Ironside took his arm apart and his body tried to put it back together in real time. That had been a real ceiling. A real problem with a number attached to it.

’This pool,’ he thought, looking at 312,000, ’doesn’t have a ceiling I can currently see. Which is either reassuring or a sign that whatever is coming will need every bit of it.’

He moved down to the new skills.

[Wyrmborn — Passive]

[Any living being whose power falls below a significant threshold relative to the host cannot initiate aggression. The body refuses what the mind instructs. Effect scales with power gap. Works on beasts automatically. Works on awakened humans with sufficient will to resist, provided the gap is not too large.]

He read the description once and then looked up from the screen.

’So that’s what that was.’

The rhinosaur had been struggling to commit before his hand ever touched it. He had noticed it in real time, registered it as something worth filing away, and then the moment passed and everything else happened and he hadn’t circled back to it until now. The construct of it made sense. Not fear exactly. Something more fundamental than fear. The body receiving a signal and refusing to act on it because something in the biological chain between decision and movement had simply stopped cooperating.

’It works on beasts automatically,’ he thought. ’On humans with enough will to resist if the gap isn’t too large.’

He thought about what too large actually meant relative to where he was sitting right now.

He moved on before that line of thinking went somewhere uncomfortable.

[Rend — Active]

[A concentrated point of force produced at the intersection of draconic strength and human precision. Tears through physical matter, energy constructs and defensive abilities within short range. Not void based. No erasure. Leaves evidence.]

He read it twice. Not because it was complicated but because he wanted to be precise about what he was looking at. Not void based. No erasure. Force concentrated to a point at the intersection of whatever his body was becoming and whatever it had always known how to do with its hands. It tears through what it meets. It leaves evidence.

’Null Strike erases,’ he thought. ’Rend destroys. One leaves nothing. The other leaves a crater.’

’I want to see what that actually looks like against something worth hitting.’

He moved to the class line.

Draconic Halfling.

’I don’t actually know what that means.’

He looked at it for another second then said it aloud. ”What is a Draconic Halfling.”

The system replied.

[Draconic Halfling: Classification applied when human biology undergoes irreversible draconic integration at the cellular level]

[Physical development: Ongoing.]

[Rate and extent: Uncharted.]

[Further classification: Pending.]

[Note: Standard halfling development parameters do not apply to this host. Ruler Bloodline interference detected. Projected outcome: Unknown.]

Noah looked at the last line for a moment.

’Unknown.’

The system always had something. A percentage, a projection, a vague direction at minimum. Unknown meant it was looking at him and genuinely had no prior reference to pull from.

He wasn’t sure if that was interesting or concerning.

Probably both.

He closed the screen and sat in the quiet of his room for a moment. The viewport showed dark harbor water, a fish moving through the edge of the facility’s external lighting, unbothered and completely unaware of what was sitting on the other side of the glass.

He had been inside long enough.

He got an intrusive thought and wanted to humor it.

---

The lower levels of the facility were quieter than everything above. The training wing sat at the very base of the structure, which Noah had registered when Sam walked him through the layout but hadn’t thought about until now, moving down through the corridors and feeling the pressure shift that came with depth. Water pressed against the viewport panels along the passage, dark and steady.

He heard the training wing before he reached it.

BOOOM!!

A deep concussive impact that came up through the floor into his boots. Then another. Then a crack that sounded structural. Then the high frequency build of electrical discharge before it released, a sound he knew from years of Storm, the rising tone that meant something significant was about to happen to the air around it.

Blue light bled under the door at the end of the corridor.

Noah pushed it open.

The chamber was large. He had known the dimensions from the layout brief but standing inside was a different thing from numbers on paper. Reinforced composite plating covered every surface in layers, the floor thick enough that the impacts still reaching his boots were arriving as significantly reduced versions of whatever was producing them at the source. The ceiling was high enough that whatever had been moving in here at speed had room to do it properly.

Several female recruits were clustered near the observation barrier at the chamber’s near edge. None of them were talking. They were watching something at the far end of the space with the fixed attention of people who had agreed without discussing it that blinking was a luxury.

Blue streaks. Moving in patterns that his eyes kept trying to track and kept losing, not because his perception wasn’t fast enough but because the figure was covering ground at a rate that made consistent visual tracking genuinely difficult. The electrical discharge trailing it was the only reliable reference point, blue lines cutting through the chamber air and fading before the next ones appeared.

The floor where it had been showed crater impressions. Scorch marks. Two sections of wall plating partially separated from their mounting.

Then it stopped.

Lucas stood in the center of the chamber. Breathing elevated, hands still running with residual charge that crawled across his knuckles and dissipated slowly. His training gear was torn across the shoulder. There was a cut above his left eye that his biology was already erasing. He looked like a man who had been pushing hard for a while and had stopped because he chose to.

Across from him, reassembling from whatever the last impact had done to it, was something Noah’s eyes needed a full second to process.

Ten feet tall. A body mass that had no business being mobile, dense and enormous the way only four horn Harbingers were, the kind of physical presence that rewrote your instinctive understanding of what a body could be just by existing in the same space as you. It moved with the fluid commitment of something that had studied how living things moved and had then decided to do that but without any of the biological limitations that made living things move that way.

’That’s supposed to be Kruel,’ Noah thought.

The floor under his boots was vibrating. Not from movement. From the construct simply standing there.

”Thought you’d show up eventually.”

Kelvin materialized at his left shoulder, tablet in hand, wearing the expression of a man who had been sitting on something for months and had finally found the right audience.

”Three months ago,” Kelvin said, not waiting. ”I finished it three months ago. Been running Lucas through sessions since then.” He gestured at the construct with his tablet. ”After the last fight, KROME recorded enough before it got destroyed. Movement data, force output, impact signatures. I used all of it to build the model and scale it accurately.”

Noah kept his eyes on the construct.

”The force this thing generates per full commitment strike,” Kelvin said, pulling something up on the tablet and turning it toward Noah, ”is approximately 4.2 times ten to the power of fifteen joules of kinetic force. Per hit.” He paused for effect. ”That is the equivalent of a magnitude 8.1 earthquake. Sustained. Per strike.” Another pause. ”The actual Kruel’s numbers scale higher than what I was able to replicate. But this,” he pointed at the construct, ”is already operating above the Widow Harbinger you fought. Based on the movement patterns alone I would put money on it.”

Noah said nothing.

’The Widow Harbinger had taken everything I had at the time,’ he thought. ’And this thing is stronger than that.’

”The facility,” Kelvin said, and he had stopped pretending to be casual about it, ”is built entirely around this thing. Not partially. Entirely. The depth, the base location, the composite layering on every surface, the pressure management systems running along the outer hull, the structural redundancies I had to argue for with three separate engineers who kept telling me I was overbuilding.”

He pointed at the floor. ”This floor alone is four feet of layered composite material. Four feet. A standard reinforced military installation uses eight inches and considers itself serious.” He pointed at the walls. ”The plating you see is the fourth layer. There are three more behind it that you cannot see. Each one rated for a different category of catastrophic event.”

He pulled up something on his tablet and turned it around. ”I ran simulations. Full output from this construct inside a standard facility produces what the structural engineers described as, and I am quoting directly, a total loss scenario within eleven seconds.” He let that sit for exactly one second. ”Eleven seconds. So yes, I rebuilt the walls. I rebuilt the floor. I rebuilt the ceiling. I put the whole thing at the bottom of a harbor because water provides passive resistance that no engineered material can fully replicate at this scale.”

He glanced at Lucas, then at Noah. ”And before either of you gets any ideas, it accounts for both of you as well. Yes, full output from either of you or simultaneously. I did the math twice because the first time the answer scared me and I wanted to make sure I hadn’t made an error.” A brief pause. ”I had not made an error.”

He said that last part the way people said things they had done the math on and trusted completely.

”So.” Kelvin spread his hands. ”Knock yourself out.”

Lucas had walked over during the explanation. The cut above his eye was gone. He looked at Noah with the direct assessment that was just how Lucas operated, no preamble, no warm up, just the inventory of someone who tracked capability as a professional habit and had been doing it long enough that it was automatic.

”I’ve run this thing thirty something times,” Lucas said. ”Never beaten it. Not once.” He glanced back at the construct. ”Kelvin says the actual Kruel’s numbers go higher than what this can produce.” He looked at Noah again. ”I don’t know exactly where you’re at now. But based on what I felt when you came back, I’d say we’re probably around the same level.” A brief pause. ”I’m expecting you to come out frustrated.”

”One thing,” Kelvin said, one finger raised. ”Please. No erasure ability. I spent eight months on that construct and I would very much like it to survive the session.”

Noah looked at the construct at the far end of the chamber.

’Magnitude 8.1 per hit,’ he thought. ’Modeled on the thing that killed millions of people in seventeen hours. Stronger than the Widow. And Lucas has never beaten it.’

He rolled his neck once and walked toward the chamber entrance.

The door sealed behind him.

He stood at one end. The construct stood at the other. The low vibration in the floor was still there, steady and patient, coming from the construct just existing at that end of the space.

’So this is what Kelvin built,’ Noah thought, looking at it properly for the first time without other people in his peripheral vision. ’Ten feet. Earthquake force per strike. This is supposed to be the weaker version of the thing that put Diana in a hospital bed.’

The simulation indicator on the wall panel shifted from standby to active.

The construct ceased to exist where it was standing.

No wind up. No shift in posture. No telegraphing of any kind. One moment it was forty meters away and the next moment the space where it had been was just empty chamber floor and Noah’s perception, every layer of it, screamed simultaneously.

It was already beside him. The fist coming around at an angle targeting his entire left side, not aimed at a specific point because at that force output specific points were irrelevant.

Noah looked at it coming.

’Yeah,’ he thought. ’Kelvin definitely worked hard on this.’

BOOM!

Noah swung.

What left his hand was not void energy. It did not erase or phase or manipulate anything. It was force concentrated to a single point, the kind of concentration that had no clean explanation, meeting the construct’s strike before contact.

The collision did not stay inside the chamber.

The reinforced composite wall plating on the left side cracked in a line that ran uninterrupted from floor to ceiling. The material separated and behind it the harbor found the gap immediately, water coming through in a solid pressurized stream that hit the chamber floor and spread without asking anyone’s permission.

Noah looked at the crack.

He activated Void Blink.

He appeared in the observation passage, standing next to the recruits, all of whom turned toward him at the same moment with a collective expression that covered most of the available range of human reactions to something unexpected.

He looked back through the barrier at the water spreading across the chamber floor.

”Oops,” Noah said.

The passage was completely silent.

Lucas was staring at him. The assessment he had made earlier, the one about them probably being around the same level, was visibly leaving his face in real time, walking out through whatever gap the water was currently using.

Kelvin looked like a man experiencing several emotions simultaneously and had not yet determined which one to lead with. His tablet was at his side. His mouth was open. He was looking at his chamber wall.

One of the female recruits near the back of the group said, with the calm practicality of someone who had identified the most useful thing she could contribute to the current situation, ”I’ll go find Sam and call the building crew before we all drown.”

She left at a brisk walk.

Noah watched the water level in the chamber rising steadily and said nothing.
