Re-Awakened :I Ascend as an SSS-Ranked Dragon Summoner

Kelvin had mapped the patrol routes for three hours, timing each Harbinger’s movement to the second. The leftmost one-horn had a blind spot near the facility’s power junction—exactly fourteen seconds where the creature’s back was turned and the other two couldn’t see the approach vector.

’Fourteen seconds to cover thirty meters, disable the power coupling, and get into position for the hack,’ he calculated, watching the patrol patterns with those genius calculating eyes. ’Doable, if everything goes exactly according to plan.’

One thing was for sure, this place had been standing for a while. Probably built by the settlers and modified by the Harbingers for their operation. Which meant one thing.

’This whole op has been ongoing for a while. To set up this large jammer and some of the tech I can sense coming from this place, they had to have been on this planet, in hiding or probably not for a while!’ he thought.

But the time for thoughts was over. He was ready to go in head on.

His suit’s power distribution system hummed as he rerouted energy from non-essential systems to the mobility servos. Life support down to minimum, environmental controls offline, even the heads-up display dimmed to conserve power. Everything focused on speed and stealth for the next sixty seconds.

The leftmost Harbinger reached the far end of its patrol route, exactly on schedule. Kelvin moved.

His suit’s enhanced mobility carried him across the crystalline terrain in complete silence, servos compensating for every footfall and surface irregularity. Twenty meters. Twenty-five. The power junction was right there, a vulnerable node in the facility’s energy grid that would create exactly the kind of distraction he needed.

Ten meters from the target, his suit’s proximity sensors detected the power coupling’s electromagnetic signature. His fingers moved toward the interface ports, technical pathways already mapped in his mind—

**PROXIMITY ALERT: UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL DETECTED

The facility’s security system announced his presence in a voice that could probably be heard in orbit.

’Oh, come ON!’ Kelvin snarled as three Harbinger heads snapped toward his position simultaneously. ’What kind of alien death fortress has better security protocols than our own military bases?’

The closest one-horn moved with terrifying speed, covering fifteen meters in the time it took Kelvin to fully process that his careful approach had just become a desperate fight for survival. But years of preparation kicked in—his suit’s enhanced reflexes pulled him into a sideways roll just as the creature’s fist hammered into the ground where he’d been standing.

The impact sent chunks of crystalline stone flying like shrapnel, several pieces carving deep grooves in his armor’s surface. But he was already moving, drawing his energy blade as he came up from the roll, the weapon’s familiar weight settling into his grip like an old friend.

’Okay, plan B,’ he thought, dodging a second devastating punch by millimeters. ’Kill the monsters, then hack the node. Simple. Direct. Probably fatal.’

The first Harbinger pressed its attack with clear intent, each strike calculated to corner him against the facility’s outer wall. But Kelvin had spent months studying Harbinger anatomy after Cannadah, understanding how their enhanced physiology worked, where their vulnerabilities lay hidden beneath layers of natural armor.

He feinted left, then spun right, bringing his energy blade up in a perfect arc toward the creature’s throat. The weapon’s beast core energy enhanced edge sliced through alien flesh and cartilage with surgical precision, opening the vessels in a spray of dark blood.

The Harbinger staggered, hands flying to its throat as its enhanced healing factor struggled to cope with the massive trauma. But healing took time, and time was something Kelvin wasn’t going to give it.

’First lesson from Cannadah,’ he thought, driving the blade deeper into the wound before the creature could recover. ’Never let them heal if you can help it.’

He rushed forward and swung as hard as he could.

The energy blade carved through the creature’s neck in a complete arc, separating head from shoulders in a fountain of alien blood. The massive body toppled backward, twitching once before going still.

One down. Two to go. And they were already moving to flank his position.

’Fantastic teamwork,’ Kelvin noted, backing toward the power junction while keeping both remaining Harbingers in sight. ’These things actually coordinate better than most human squads. This is not how most alien movies from the early 2000’s depicted them. Why couldn’t we get the stupid ones?’

The second one-horn came at him from the left while the third moved to cut off his escape route. Classic pincer movement, executed with the kind of tactical precision that shouldn’t have been possible for creatures that were supposed to be thoughtless killing machines.

Kelvin’s suit screamed warnings as the left-side attacker’s fist whistled past his helmet, missing by inches. He twisted, bringing his elbow around in a devastating counter-strike that connected with the creature’s solar plexus, enhanced servos adding enough force to the blow to actually stagger the eight-foot monster.

But the third Harbinger was already there, massive hands reaching for his head with the clear intention of popping it like a grape.

Time slowed as Kelvin’s enhanced reflexes kicked into overdrive. He could see the creature’s fingers spreading, could calculate the exact trajectory of the grip that would crush his skull. His left hand shot up, catching the Harbinger’s wrist and redirecting the grab into a throw that sent the creature stumbling into its companion.

’Physics is a beautiful thing,’ he thought, using the moment of confusion to put distance between himself and the two monsters. ’Conservation of momentum, applied with extreme prejudice.’

But his celebration was premature. The second Harbinger’s backhand caught him across the chest with enough force to crack three ribs and send him flying into the facility’s outer wall. His armor absorbed most of the impact, but the shock still rattled his bones and left his vision swimming.

[MEDICAL ALERT: MULTIPLE RIB FRACTURES DETECTED]

[COMBAT STIMULANTS RECOMMENDED]

’Hit me with everything you’ve got,’ Kelvin gasped, feeling the suit’s medical systems flood his bloodstream with enough combat drugs to keep a platoon fighting. ’Because this is about to get interesting.’

The pain in his chest faded to a manageable ache as the stimulants kicked in, but his tactical situation hadn’t improved. Two Harbingers, both now fully aware that he was more dangerous than they’d initially calculated, both moving with the kind of coordinated aggression that suggested they weren’t taking any chances.

The facility’s power junction was still within reach, but getting to it meant going through eight feet of angry alien muscle. Twice.

’Time for some creative problem-solving,’ Kelvin decided, his eyes beginning to glow with an eerie green light as his rarely-used in a fight technopathic abilities stirred to life. ’Let’s see what kind of toys this place has to offer.’

His enhanced perception reached out, connecting with the facility’s electronic systems through proximity interfaces he’d never fully understood. Power distribution networks, security protocols, maintenance systems—all of it suddenly accessible to his altered consciousness.

The facility’s external lighting grid responded to his will, strobing in patterns that sent both Harbingers stumbling as their heightened vision struggled to adapt to the chaotic light show. Not enough to stop them, but enough to buy him the seconds he needed.

Kelvin sprinted toward the power junction, his energy blade carving through the air as the first Harbinger recovered and moved to intercept. The creature’s fist met his blade in a shower of sparks, alien bone proving harder than expected as the weapon gouged deep furrows but failed to sever the appendage.

’Tougher than the first one,’ he noted, pivoting to avoid the follow-up strike while his technopathic senses probed deeper into the facility’s systems. ’But everything has a weakness if you’re creative enough to find it.’

The maintenance systems included atmospheric processors, waste management, and—there. Pressurized coolant lines running throughout the facility’s outer structure, designed to keep the massive array’s components from overheating.

Green energy crackled around Kelvin’s fingers as he reached out with his abilities, finding the coolant line directly above the second Harbinger’s position. A simple command, a brief override of safety protocols, and—

The pressurized line ruptured with explosive force, spraying superheated coolant across the creature’s head and shoulders. The Harbinger’s roar of pain and rage echoed across the valley as the chemical mixture began eating through its natural armor like acid.

’Improvised weapons for the win,’ Kelvin thought, but his satisfaction was short-lived as the third Harbinger’s fist connected with his left shoulder.

The servo array in his arm exploded in a shower of sparks and shattered components, the limb going completely numb as electrical systems failed in cascade. But the impact also sent him spinning directly into the facility’s power junction, his right hand slamming into the control interface with enough force to crack the housing.

Green lightning arced between his fingers and the alien technology, his technopathic abilities interfacing directly with systems that shouldn’t have been compatible with human consciousness. Pain shot through his skull as foreign programming patterns tried to integrate with his enhanced neural pathways.

But it worked. The facility’s primary power grid responded to his will, and Kelvin immediately began rerouting massive amounts of energy toward the external defense systems that he probably shouldn’t have been able to access.

’Let’s see how you like this,’ he snarled, channeling every amp of available power into the facility’s electromagnetic field generators.
