Thank you to the user ”Christomol” for donating a gift. I will be releasing several Chapters today.

Ruby was stunned.

Her bloodshot eyes seemed even brighter in that absolute darkness.

She looked at me.

— Which way should we go?

I didn’t answer immediately.

My eyes swept across both ends of the dark tunnel.

The problem was that I couldn’t decide.

Ruby snorted.

— Hmph!

She stood up, straightened her back, and faced one of the ends of the tunnel.

Then she took a deep breath.

Haaaa...

She raised both hands and pressed her palms together.

SHIIIIING!

A red aura began vibrating around her body.

The energy of the Blood element spread through the tunnel at a terrifying speed.

VUUUUUM!

I felt a strange buzzing pass through my body.

The wave of red energy advanced through the tunnel.

Ruby closed her eyes.

She remained completely motionless.

It was as if all her consciousness was concentrated within that energy.

A few seconds passed.

Then she spoke:

— The tunnel is three hundred and twenty-seven meters long.

— Going upward.

— There’s a small cave at the end.

Ruby remained silent for a moment.

Then her expression changed.

— Inside it...

— Two men!

My heart tightened.

— They’re coming toward us!

My eyes immediately became fierce.

It wasn’t difficult to imagine why.

They probably thought they had found two easy targets.

And considering the situation...

I was almost certain they were the two Pseudo-Mages who had been pursuing us.

— If they’ve already prepared an ambush here...

— The other paths may also be blocked.

I couldn’t take the risk.

I waved my hand.

SHLORP!

I dispelled the Shark Golem.

The enormous mass of mud disintegrated onto the ground.

I quickly retrieved the two Summoning Spirit Crystals that were between the earth and the mud.

Then I grabbed Ruby’s hand.

— Let’s go!

We ran.

The tunnel floor was a nightmare.

Everything was uneven.

And I didn’t exactly have impressive agility.

With less than five points of Agility, running in that place was practically asking to fall.

CLACK!

My foot struck a rock.

— Ugh!

I almost fell.

After less than ten meters, Ruby simply grabbed me.

She put me on her back.

— Hold on tight.

— Wait, Ruby—

BOOM!

She shot forward.

My voice died in my throat.

The cold, damp air violently struck my face.

It entered my mouth, My nose, and My throat.

— R-Ruby!

She didn’t answer.

The dark passage began disappearing before my eyes.

A stalagmite appeared.

Ruby dodged it.

She tilted her body.

Another narrow passage appeared.

Ruby simply slid through it.

To me... It was like being trapped on the most insane roller coaster anyone could imagine.

Just a few steps ahead was a network of blue flames that was completely blocking the tunnel.

ZZZZZZZT!~~

The blue light illuminated the entire passage.

From top to bottom.

The web was attached to the walls.

Arcs of energy danced violently where it touched the stone.

CRACK!

ZZZZZT!

The heat was absurd.

It’s a dead end!

Ruby stopped.

The two of us looked behind us.

We didn’t even have a second to think.

A cloud of red dust began filling the tunnel.

FUUUUUSH!

A magical array appeared on the ground.

SHIIIIING!

Two tall figures appeared inside it.

My eyes narrowed.

Teleportation...

I understood immediately.

There was no spatial ripple.

But there was a strong concentration of Curse-element energy.

That teleportation spell was powered by curse energy.

But this wasn’t the time to analyze it.

We were trapped.

Enemies behind us.

A trap ahead.

Then a cold voice echoed through the tunnel.

— You are Ruby, am I right?

One of the men slowly stepped forward.

— Excellent.

The energy of shadows began to spread.

The tunnel became even colder.

— So the two assassins who killed my sweet wife, Sayk, are here.

— I will tear your souls from your bodies, imprison them in sand coffins, and make you groan in pain for more than ten thousand years!

I looked at the man. He was Tall, strong, and looked like a typical dangerous villain.

He wore a light black robe covered in strange runes.

But that appearance concealed an extremely disturbing aura.

Ruby tilted her head.

— Wife?

She seemed genuinely confused.

— What wife? Who are you?

The man’s face began to contort.

— If the name Sayk means nothing to you...

His voice became filled with hatred.

— Perhaps you’ll remember the Lady of Magical Bones of Sea Creatures.

My eyes widened.

Ruby’s did too.

— The Lady of Magical Bones of Sea Creatures?!

We both spoke at the same time.

Then everything made sense.

We hadn’t simply encountered enemies by chance.

We had encountered someone connected to the acolyte that Ruby and I had killed.

Ruby moved closer to me and whispered.

— What is this sand coffin he mentioned?

I answered quickly.

— It’s an undead creature created from a living person.

— Before the victim dies, the caster draws special magical arrays on their body.

— When the person finally dies during the sacrificial ritual, their soul becomes trapped within the corpse, transformed into an undead.

— They become the caster’s eternal slave.

The Biochip helped me recall even knowledge that was rarely used in that world.

The guy listened to my explanation.

And smiled.

— What you said is only the mildest punishment.

— When you become my sand coffins, I’ll bury you somewhere remote.

His smile became completely insane.

— You will remain conscious for a hundred years of absolute darkness.

— I will visit you occasionally.

— I will make sure your souls remain intact.

— Your memories will remain clear.

— Your minds will never descend into madness.

He began laughing.

— Hahahahahaha!

A shiver ran down my spine.

I had underestimated the level of this man’s madness.

Ruby took advantage of that moment.

— Which way?

I looked ahead.

— Straight ahead.

— Are you sure?

— There are two Pseudo-Mages behind us.

— But ahead I can only sense one magical signature.

Ruby understood.

— Then let’s go forward.

I nodded.

SHIIIIING!

A brilliant light exploded from my body.

My Light Shield appeared.

Golden energy enveloped my body.

Ruby opened her arms.

Then she clung to me.

Her body pressed against mine.

The two of us turned around.

And advanced directly toward the blue fire web.

— You’re still trying to escape?!

The guy roared.

His body began to grow.

CRACK!

His muscles expanded.

His arm became gigantic.

Thick fur covered his skin.

He extended his hand.

BOOOOM!

The enormous hand advanced toward us.

But it missed.

The tips of his fingers touched the blue web.

ZZZZZZZZT!

His hand instantly turned black.

— GRAAAAAH!

The man pulled back.

FWOOSH!

His giant hand returned to its normal size in an instant.

Black smoke came from his fingers.

He looked at his own hand.

— Damn it!

Then he shouted:

— Sharniz! Remove this fire trap immediately!

But it was already too late.

We entered.

ZZZZZZZZZZT!

The blue energy exploded over our bodies.

My Light Shield took the impact first.

I gritted my teeth.

I fed the shield with mana.

The blue flames struck the barrier.

Sparks exploded in every direction.

The heat was absurd.

That blue fire could turn an ordinary man into charcoal within seconds.

And then I noticed something even worse.

Blue plasma began forming around us.

Small masses of energy floated less than a meter from my head.

They advanced slowly.

My Light Shield wouldn’t last.

I had improved the spell before the mission.

Now, as a Level 3 acolyte, my mana reserves were also much larger.

But even so...

It wasn’t enough.

Ten meters.

We only needed to cross ten meters.

For Ruby, that would be almost nothing.

For me...

It felt like an eternity.

My mana began to drop.

CRACK!

The shield began to crack and disappear.

I tried feeding it more mana, but the fire was destroying it much faster than my mana could replenish it.

The Light Shield disappeared.

We still hadn’t covered half the distance.

The blue plasma advanced.

ZZZZZT!

I could feel death approaching.

I closed my eyes instinctively.

Then I heard Ruby scream.

— GEORGE!

A gigantic amount of red energy exploded around us.

The energy of the Blood element covered our bodies.

For an instant, we were protected.

But that plasma was simply too powerful.

The red energy began to be consumed.

It was like placing raw meat on a scorching hot plate.

Ruby’s blood evaporated almost instantly.

She gritted her teeth.

She was transferring most of the Blood-element energy to me.

Her body was left exposed.

The blue energy struck her skin.

The smell of burning flesh filled the tunnel.

Parts of Ruby’s body turned black.

Her charred flesh began to disintegrate.

She was literally burning herself to keep me alive.

Then finally...

FWOOSH!

We emerged from the web.

We fell on the other side.

A charred body struck the ground.

For several seconds, no one moved.

On the other side of the tunnel, a boy who looked approximately ten years old remained motionless.

He stared at us.

His face was completely filled with disbelief.

That blue fire web had been created by him.

He knew that trap could kill anyone who tried to cross it, But we had made it through.
