Master of Nine Stars

”SCREEECH!!!”

”SCREEECH!!!” A hundred piercing phoenix cries echoed throughout the arena as they dove from the sky, heading straight for Rong Taotao.

At his current forward momentum, Rong Taotao was bound to be buried by the Phoenix Group!

His face was so stained with filth that his expression was unreadable, but he thrust his halberd forward!

”Heh!” The Ironspear Point once again pierced the eye socket of the Corpse Fire Camel, desperately trying to steer its forward charge to the side!

For a moment, huge sighs of disappointment echoed from all corners of the audience stands.

”What the hell...”

”What’s she doing? Dammit!”

”We were just about to see what would happen! So annoying!”

Without a doubt, everyone had been waiting for the outcome of the cavalry charge, eagerly anticipating what was about to happen.

But Wanqi Yan had played the villain and spoiled the show!

”RUMBLE...”

The Phoenix Group blotted out the sky as it rained down destruction. A series of massive explosions erupted, sending out churning shockwaves. It was just short of a mushroom cloud rising from the field!

Rong Taotao tried desperately to turn the charging Corpse Fire Camel, but he was still caught in the shockwaves from the Phoenix Group’s bombardment!

”Hiss...” Rong Taotao sucked in a sharp breath, but what filled his lungs was scorching air.

He fought to endure the force of the blast, but he and the Corpse Fire Camel beneath him were sent flying.

”Little Sis!?” Wanqi Wu cried out, both shocked and furious, turning his head to look at Wanqi Yan near the center of the field.

But Wanqi Yan showed no remorse for spoiling the fight. Instead, her beautiful eyes were filled with fury. ”Get a grip!”

’Get a grip?’

Wanqi Wu’s expression stiffened. He quickly reined in his Corpse Fire Camel but was still pushed back several steps by the shockwaves rolling in from the distance.

”Snap out of it!” Wanqi Yan shouted again, her face still etched with lingering anger.

As far as Wanqi Yan was concerned, victory was within her grasp.

If they just kept this up, Rong Taotao and Gao Lingwei wouldn’t last much longer. All she and her brother had to do was maintain the pressure. This was a complete rout!

’But what are you doing, Wanqi Wu?’

’Trying to play the hero? You want to challenge Rong Taotao to a one-on-one duel!?’

’You’ve watched Rong Taotao’s matches a million times. Don’t you know how terrifying that Lotus hidden inside him is?’

’A cavalry charge?’

’What good is your Flame Armor? The second that Lotus Petal appears, it’ll pierce you straight through the heart!’

’Do you even care about me? Forget that I’m your sister—at the very least, I’m your teammate. This is a two-person battle, not your personal duel!’

’DO! YOU! EVEN! WANT! TO! WIN!?’

Ever since the tournament began, Wanqi Yan had always respected, even looked up to, her brother. But his actions just now had been utterly irresponsible.

As she seethed with rage, Wanqi Yan suddenly heard her brother’s urgent cry in her mind: ”Behind you!”

”Hm?” Wanqi Yan, who had been glaring at Wanqi Wu, instantly shifted her perspective, looking at her own position through his eyes.

A cold sweat broke out on Wanqi Yan’s skin. She hastily tilted her head!

”WHOOSH!” A Snow-made Heaven-piercing Halberd swung past, grazing her cheek.

Wanqi Yan dodged by a hair’s breadth, but the Crescent Blade on the side of the Heaven-piercing Halberd still drew a bloody line across her fair cheek!

And that wasn’t all. Infused within the tic-tac-toe-shaped Snow Halberd was a cloud of Ghostly Mist?

”Wooo~ Wooo~!” The Snow Grudge Spirit finally bared its sharp fangs. As the Heaven-piercing Halberd flew past, the spirit broke away, turned, and plunged headfirst into Wanqi Yan’s skull.

In through the left cheek, out through the right...

Stunned by the sudden Mental Shock, Wanqi Yan felt as if a thousand needles were stabbing her brain. Compared to that, the cut on her face was nothing.

”Ah!” Wanqi Yan screamed, instinctively clutching her head.

She had no Spiritual Defense Soul Skill. The Soul Pearl Soul Skill on her forehead was the one that connected her mind to her brother’s.

If she had been hit by a Frost Fearful Face, it would have just been a moment of terror. But being struck by this Snow Grudge Spirit—a pure Mental Output attack—inflicted no small amount of damage. The anger she should have felt was unknowingly replaced by a creeping despair.

The ones who had broken out of the Corpse Fire Camel Array weren’t just Rong Taotao, but Gao Lingwei too!

However, she wasn’t mounted. She had broken out after Rong Taotao, bursting from the other side of the formation.

The moment she broke free, Gao Lingwei witnessed the cavalry charge and Wanqi Yan’s sneak attack.

In an instant, Gao Lingwei was overcome with uncontrollable rage. She infused her Heaven-piercing Halberd with a Snow Grudge Spirit and threw it without hesitation!

Unexpectedly, Wanqi Yan had let her focus waver on the battlefield?

’What is she doing? Yelling at her own teammate?’

Gao Lingwei didn’t care about any of that. ’If you dare lose focus on the battlefield, I’ll dare to run you through with my halberd!’

Unfortunately... her opponents were siblings, after all. Their forehead Soul Pearls linked their minds, so even though Wanqi Yan didn’t even have a chance to turn and look, she still managed to dodge Gao Lingwei’s fatal blow.

”Taotao!” Gao Lingwei shouted, trying to rouse Rong Taotao as she charged toward Wanqi Yan.

’Kick ’em while they’re down!’

At the same time, Wanqi Wu also charged in his sister’s direction.

If Gao Lingwei hadn’t included a mental attack, Wanqi Wu wouldn’t have even needed to rush over; he could have just controlled his sister’s body directly to fend off the enemy.

However, with Wanqi Yan pierced by the Snow Grudge Spirit and her mind traumatized, the siblings’ mental link had been severed. Wanqi Wu had no choice but to go himself.
