Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 6: Chapter 3: Mother-Daughter Talk

After Tang Mo got home, she closed the supermarket’s main door. She sat down on the sofa chair behind the cash register and started to take stock of her personal savings.

This afternoon alone, she had spent over 8,000 yuan.

Replacing the cord for the Jade Pendant, buying medical supplies, and purchasing a few sets of gear from the sporting goods store. Although these three things alone had cost her nearly half her savings, she didn’t feel the slightest bit of regret. After the apocalypse, nothing would be more life-saving than these items.

She never once doubted whether the apocalypse would come. The early activation of the Jade Pendant and the spiritual power faintly stirring within her, ready to burst forth, were the most powerful proof.

She didn’t have much money left. She had to plan carefully and make sure every penny was spent where it counted most.

Tang Mo opened her phone and checked the date. There were only seven days left until the apocalypse. She also had to return to her school on the last day, so to her, time was precious and not a single moment could be wasted.

In her previous life, she had spent half a year at the school. Although her days there had been difficult, they weren’t entirely without reward.

Places that could be enveloped by the fog were all treasure troves of feng shui. This was a conclusion reached by scientists in her past life through analysis.

And such places were the most likely to produce rare and abnormal treasures.

In her previous life, students searching for supplies had discovered rare and abnormal treasures in the school’s pond, on its lawns, and on the mountain behind it.

Tang Mo herself had even found a mushroom with a 5 Spirit Point attribute. Unfortunately, she didn’t think Spirit Points were useful back then and traded it for a whole loaf of bread to fill her stomach.

It wasn’t until after she left the school that she realized just how priceless the mushroom she had traded for a loaf of bread was. Abnormal treasures that could increase attribute points were incredibly rare. Even one that increased a single attribute would be snatched up instantly if it ever reached the market.

After that, she never encountered any other abnormal treasures, and her overall attribute values were merely average.

That’s why she had to go back. She absolutely could not give up on the abnormal treasures at the school.

Compared to the outside world, the survival conditions at the school were much better. In her past life, she had managed to survive there for half a year with nothing. This time, with the Jade Pendant as her support and with thorough preparations, she had even less reason to back down.

’As for Mom?’

Tang Mo’s gaze fell. ’If I remember correctly, Mom will talk to me about that matter tonight.’

The late summer weather was already getting a bit chilly. Normally, at this time last year, you could still wear short sleeves, but now, even a thin jacket felt a little cool.

As the sun began to set in the evening, Tang Mo timed her trip to the market perfectly and bought a lot of groceries. Watching the old men and women in the market haggling fiercely with vendors over a single dime, her eyes started to redden.

There was nothing more beautiful than the charm of everyday life, but this kind of charm wouldn’t last much longer.

Half a month after the apocalypse, the country would release a large number of 5D virtual ID Watches to bind personal identities and disseminate information.

The country hadn’t released 5D technology before the apocalypse. This was obviously prepared long in advance. Perhaps they had sensed what was coming many years prior and had already begun their preparations.

Having grown accustomed to the cold and heartless nature of people in the apocalypse, Tang Mo was no saint, nor did she want to be a savior.

Growing up, Tang Mo had always had a lively and cheerful personality. Although she had the reputation of a top student who was always first in her grade, her sharp mind didn’t make her a bookworm.

In the eyes of others, she was just a sensible girl who smiled a lot and wasn’t particularly talkative.

But she understood many things more clearly than anyone else.

’My own abilities are meager, and what I can do is limited. Just living my own life and protecting my mother will already take everything I have.’

’As for everything else... let fate decide.’

After returning from the market, Tang Mo went into the kitchen and busied herself for a long time. She brought out four dishes and a soup, ready to eat with Mrs. Lin when she got home.

When Lin Yi rushed home and was just about to enter the kitchen to cook, she saw the scene on the dining table and was pleasantly surprised. She was suddenly filled with the feeling that her little girl was all grown up.

The two of them sat at the dining table, eating and chatting warmly about everyday things.

Seeing her mother, still so beautiful, sitting before her, Tang Mo’s hand holding her chopsticks trembled slightly.

She missed her mom so much. During the apocalypse, she had thought countless times that she would give anything, even her own Life, just to see her mother one more time, but her wish was never granted.

Now, her mother was sitting right in front of her. If she wasn’t afraid of scaring her, she would have rushed over, hugged her tightly, and never let go.
