Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 915: Chapter 657: Thousand Cup Intoxication

Yang Zhenshan gently stroked Chen Yan’s head. The nine-year-old girl was already adept at reading people’s expressions, which was both amusing and pitiable.

“Wang Lei!”

“Yes!” Wang Lei, standing outside the door, responded immediately upon hearing the call.

Yang Zhenshan instructed, “Go to the government office and register Yan’er. Also, tell Red Cloud that from now on, Yan’er’s expenses will be the same as the Yang family children!”

After the Yang family children got married, they received a monthly allowance of five hundred silver taels. It seemed like a lot, but in truth, it wasn’t. After marriage, they had to live on their own, cover the allowance for their servants and maids, and take care of their children themselves.

Aside from the guards, all other expenses had to be borne by them.

Which of these families doesn’t have a dozen maids and servants? The allowance for these maids and servants is not insignificant — a low allowance is two taels of silver per month, and a high one can reach twenty or thirty taels. For a dozen servants, the annual expense can reach over a thousand taels of Silver Coin.

Moreover, there are other household expenses like food, clothing, housing, fuel, rice, oil, salt, and so on, all of which they have to be responsible for.

Five hundred taels a month seems abundant, but in reality, it only allows them to live like a modestly wealthy family, far from enough for them to be extravagant or indulge in luxury.

But for Chen Yan, five hundred taels a month were more than enough for a worry-free life.

Of course, Yang Zhenshan wouldn’t just provide the monthly allowance. “The school on the island is already built, and it will open next year. Yan’er should enroll next year too!”

“Yes, Master Ancestor, rest assured, Yan’er will study diligently!” Chen Yan replied.

Yang Zhenshan nodded and smiled warmly, “Hmm, Master Ancestor knows Yan’er is a good child!”

“Take Yan’er to the courtyard for a look. If anything is missing, she can directly find Qingxia and Red Cloud, and they’ll arrange everything!”

“You haven’t met Qingxia and Red Cloud yet, have you, Li Chang? Take him to meet them.”

After arranging everything for Chen Yan, Yang Zhenshan returned to the backyard.

Yu Qingyi was still busy inside the space. Yang Zhenshan went to the study in the backyard and entered the space too.

At this moment, Yu Qingyi was harvesting Dragon Bone Fruit. The Dragon Bone Fruit trees had started bearing fruit this year, and there were quite a few, up to a thousand.

Dragon Bone Fruit is different from Three Yellow Plums and Ice Heart Fruit, as the latter two have only one seed per fruit, whereas Dragon Bone Fruit has dozens of seeds.

Yang Zhenshan planted over thirty Dragon Bone Flowers after acquiring the Dragon Bone Fruit, and now those flowers were bearing fruit.

In the space now, only the Seven Apertures Meridian Fruit hadn’t yet borne fruit; most of the others were freely available.

Yang Zhenshan had also made new progress in researching the Soul-attaching Pill. He could now refine Soul-attaching Pills with wind attributes, though neither he nor Yu Qingyi cultivated wind attribute Dao Intent.

Yang Zhenshan practiced Thunder Attribute Dao Intent, while Yu Qingyi practiced Wood Attribute Dao Intent.

Seeing Yang Zhenshan arrive, Yu Qingyi asked, “Did you meet Princess Ming Xi?”

“Yes, I did!” Yang Zhenshan picked up a basket and started gathering Dragon Bone Fruit.

Harvesting a thousand Dragon Bone Fruits at once was indeed a delightful event.

The Dragon Bone Fruit could enhance a Martial Artist’s force, which might seem trivial, but actually, force could be understood as Dao Intent.

Styles like blade force, sword force, spear force, and so on.

When a blade is swung down, carrying an imposing momentum, it can captivate and shock minds.

Therefore, Dragon Bone Fruit can also be refined into a Soul-attaching Pill.

Yang Zhenshan’s next plan was to study the Soul-attaching Pill with the force attribute.

Although neither he nor Yu Qingyi could use it, others might find it useful.

Even if one couldn’t comprehend the Dao Intent of force, enhancing one’s momentum was beneficial, for intimidation, no, for deterring thugs.

“Did you not talk with her?” Yu Qingyi asked casually, picking Dragon Bone Fruit.

“About what?” Yang Zhenshan replied.

“She’s probably here to ask you to go back.” Yu Qingyi said.

Yang Zhenshan smiled, “The answer is bound to disappoint her, so why prolong the conversation?”

“But you still need to talk to her!” Yu Qingyi insisted.

Yang Zhenshan said nonchalantly, “Let’s delay it for a few days, so she mentally prepares herself and doesn’t expect too much.”

Yu Qingyi thought it over and agreed, delaying might spare Chen Mingxi from too high expectations.

She then didn’t press further on the matter with Chen Mingxi.

In theory, she should have been the one hosting Chen Mingxi, but since she hadn’t even met Chen Mingxi before, there was no connection. Furthermore, her stance represented Yang Zhenshan’s stance, so it was better for her not to appear.

“Where is Yan’er?”

“She’s all settled in, and from now on, she’ll stay on Divine Wood Island!”

“Would Da Rong agree to that?” Yu Qingyi asked.

Yang Zhenshan chuckled dismissively, “They probably don’t have time to bother about a little girl, and do we need their approval?”

He was now even more displeased with Emperor Jianxing.

Although Fang An hadn’t given details, he could already guess that Chen Yan’s days in the Capital City weren’t prosperous.

Emperors often lack empathy; counting on Chen Zhaojun, her imperial uncle, to care for his niece was less reliable than her Master Ancestor.

Yu Qingyi paused her actions and asked, “If our family takes over the Chen family’s throne, won’t the young girl resent us?”

Yang Zhenshan paused slightly at her words.

“No, she’s a smart girl!”

“Are you sure?” Yu Qingyi asked.

Yang Zhenshan said, “Don’t worry, she’ll understand, and so will Fang An!”
