Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 805: Chapter 606: Occupying Taiping County

Inside the county government.

The County Magistrate Li Zhongping was sitting in the study, drinking tea while singing a little tune.

“Carefully pondering cannot bear it, he retaliates with harsh words. I strongly press on, he deliberately sidesteps. Alas, I cannot help but cry, deeply pondering. Raising up my lover to join me in a silken golden tent, let us not forget these vows of loyalty.”

The singsong tone was full of leisure and delight.

This little tune was learned from the mouth of his newly taken concubine. Thinking of the way the concubine sang the tune, thinking of her delicate figure, thinking of her affectionate looks, Li Zhongping couldn’t help but feel an itch in his heart, deciding to spend the night in the concubine’s room again tonight.

Just then, a scream rang out from outside the door.

Immediately followed by a rattling commotion.

“Murder!”

“Help!”

“Run quickly!”

The noise grew louder and louder, and Li Zhongping suddenly stood up.

Murder?

Is there a mob attacking the county government?

Panicked, he rushed to the door, peering outside through a crack.

He saw a group of young men wielding swords, spears, and sticks chasing the constables and civil servants, and the County Magistrate had already fallen in a pool of blood.

“This is bad, there’s really a mob in chaos!”

Li Zhongping was shocked and frantically looked around the study.

Finally, he saw the window at the back and, without thinking, climbed onto the table to escape through the window.

He succeeded; the young men outside were busy capturing the officials and constables and hadn’t had the chance to search for the County Magistrate.

But he also failed.

He frantically ran towards the back residence, losing one of his boots in the process.

“Quick, quick, pack up, we must leave!”

Seeing his old servant, Li Zhongping shouted urgently.

The old servant, knowing that something big had happened in the Front Office, didn’t hesitate and immediately called the servants to pack the valuables.

Meanwhile, Li Zhongping ran to the backyard, ignoring his wife and children, forgetting even his concubine, and grabbed the box of silver, heading straight for the back door.

“Master, master~~” his wife called out from behind, but he didn’t turn around.

Holding the heavy box, Li Zhongping ran with surprising agility until a figure suddenly jumped down from the wall as he neared the back door.

“You, you, you~~” he stammered in fear at the sudden appearance.

Li Cheng, who was one of those brought by Yang Mingzhao from Star Moon Island, was responsible today for leading people into the rear residence to capture the County Magistrate’s family. The plan was all set, but Yang Mingzhao suddenly gave the order at the city gate, so they were slightly late.

Li Cheng looked at Li Zhongping and grinned, “You are the esteemed County Magistrate!”

As he spoke, he opened the back door, and twenty young men wielding sticks entered the backyard.

“Who are you?”

“I tell you, assaulting the county government is akin to rebellion! This is a capital offense!”

Li Zhongping spoke with false bravado.

“Ha, you actually know we’re rebelling!” Li Cheng laughed.

“Seize him, seize him; don’t let him run or die, keep him for future use!”

A few young men stepped forward unceremoniously, pressing Li Zhongping to the ground and binding him tightly.

The rest was simple; within two hours, Chen Buyu had controlled the county government, closed the city gates, and had young men patrolling the streets to prevent citizens from leaving.

The whole process was incredibly smooth, almost unbelievably so.

Of course, it wasn’t over yet.

Storming the county government was only the first step; next was to raid the big households in the city.

The county government forces were mediocre, but those big households might not be; they could be run by martial artists or employ martial artists as protectors.

Throughout the process, two officials were killed: the County Magistrate and the Chief Clerk, mainly because these two bumped into the young men’s swords, killing two constables and two martial artists, who were shot by Chen Buyu.

One young man was injured, yes, a guy rushed too fast, tripping over the county government’s threshold and hurting his right hand and kneecap.

Chen Buren looked at the only injured young man under his command; he was a seventeen-year-old boy.

“Can’t you be more careful when doing things?”

The boy scratched his head, somewhat clumsily saying, “I wanted to catch an official.”

“What’s the matter?” Yang Mingzhao asked, coming over.

“This boy accidentally tripped!” Chen Buren said.

Yang Mingzhao glanced at the boy’s bruised kneecap, “Lu Bo has golden sore medicine, go find him to apply it!”

“Sir, no need, I’m fine!” the boy said shyly.

“Go quickly, there are still many things to do next, don’t think of being lazy!” Yang Mingzhao ordered.

“Yes!” the boy quickly responded.

The citizens in the county, initially panicked and terrified at the sight of the insurgent young men, soon realized that the rebels weren’t killing innocent people and even maintained order on the streets.

The citizens, from their initial panic and fear, gradually calmed down and then became curious about the young men on the streets.

Lin Baichao, who had been humiliated by the government officials at the city gate, was indeed a resident of the city.

Originally, the Lin family was modestly well-off, owning two shops in the city dealing in miscellaneous goods and employing five long-term workers.

But four years ago, his father offended a clerk at the county government, and that clerk ordered the government officials to constantly create trouble at their shops, causing business to decline and his parents to be brutally beaten by street thugs.
