Reborn into the 70: Turning Adversity into Her Dazzling Path

”Come on, let’s go over and take a look.” After delivering her long speech, Liu Xiaoqin supported her precious belly and said to Liu Qiao Lian, ”Didn’t they say tonight’s spread is especially rich? Just thinking about it is making my mouth water.”

This pregnancy she had no other reaction, just an insatiable appetite.

Eating all kinds of things.

As soon as she heard there’d be a dinner and they were even doing several lambs, she couldn’t help but want to come.

All the way over, Liu Xiaoqin pinched a bit of this to taste, took a bite of that.

Liu Qiao Lian followed behind feeding their Xiao Jun.

The two of them standing there were practically a sight to behold.

”This is really just...” Mo Hongying stood there smiling, at a loss for words, ”such a disgrace to us army wives.”

So embarrassing.

What, like they haven’t eaten in eight generations?

And still eating while holding her belly—she’s not afraid of messing up that precious thing in there?

She didn’t say that out loud, but from everyone else’s faces she could tell they were all thinking the same thing.

The cooks had clearly gotten used to the two of them by now, just acted like they didn’t see, kept doing what they were doing—there was still a lot of work left, they had to feed this many people.

But just look at the Captain’s fiancée—now that’s what you call awareness.

Her knife skills were better than theirs, and the cold dish she’d just mixed, he’d secretly tasted a bite.

Damn, how on earth did she make that?

He’d watched her just put in some salt and vinegar, same as he would, but once it was in the mouth the taste was completely different.

Respect.

”Who made this dish? It’s really good.” While he was thinking, he heard Liu Xiaoqin’s voice from over there.

Wasn’t she tasting the very cold dish Gu Lingling had just mixed?

”Did the cooking squad get someone new?” Liu Xiaoqin asked.

”No.” The squad leader of the cooks said with a smile, ”This dish was made by the Captain’s sweetheart.”

The Captain’s sweetheart—wasn’t that Gu Lingling?

Liu Xiaoqin set down the chopsticks in her hand and gave an awkward little laugh. ”Really?”

What sweetheart, they’re not even married. Shameless.

”Yeah, we still have to learn more from her, see if we can also make food that tastes this good.” The cooking squad leader said, eyes crinkling.

He’d already gone to ask her for advice just now.

He’d thought she might not be very forthcoming—after all, this was a craft; if they learned it, wouldn’t that cut into her edge?

But he hadn’t expected that the young-looking girl actually knew a lot. After exchanging a few pointers with her, the squad leader felt like he’d gone back into training all over again.

All the feelings for cooking came rushing back.

She even shared some little tricks without holding anything back.

The squad leader was so excited he nearly whipped out a little notebook to write it all down.

Afraid he wouldn’t remember everything on his own, he called a few others over to listen too—more people, more brainpower.

”Your food was already really good before.” Liu Xiaoqin said lightly.

Seeing that look on the squad leader’s face like he’d gotten such a great deal, she just felt irritated for no reason.

”Lingling, I remember your cured meat is really good too, right?” Erniu’s mother suddenly remembered when she saw Liu Xiaoqin, ”Then when winter comes this year, could I ask you how to make it? I’m not very good at it.”

Back where they were from, they didn’t really do that sort of thing. But ever since her man came here, he’d developed a real taste for it.

Every year she had to thicken her skin and ask someone else to help make it.

”Sure.” Gu Lingling said with a smile. ”I just love messing around with food on ordinary days. If you all like it, we can learn to make it together.”

”You’re seriously amazing.” Mo Hongying said from the bottom of her heart.
