I Died and Became a Noble's Heir

Chapter 652: The Mad Scientist: Unparalleled Genius

His bony fingers unpacked the contents of his bag with surgical precision. The diagnostic crystal was set on a stone pedestal at roughly shoulder height.

The measuring instruments were arranged on a portable workbench. Needles in a sterile row, graduated cylinders positioned to catch liquids with exact precision.

The vial of Jack’s blood he held before him, examining it against the ambient library light.

Even through the sealed container, the blood’s presence was oppressive.

The air around it seemed to thicken. The mana in the immediate vicinity began to flicker.

Not in a chaotic way, but as though the library itself was reacting to the introduction of something that did not belong, something that carried more authority than the entire structure combined.

Loryn’s flame eyes burned a bright orange as his understanding crystallized.

He was going to create an authority pulse. Not a command, not a request, but a biological announcement that the Master had granted access.

He would take a fraction of a drop of Jack’s blood, blend it with a dark mana tracking matrix, and essentially forge a key that the library could not refuse to recognize.

His skeletal hand retrieved a micro-needle from the sterile kit.

The vial was sealed, but the stopper was designed to allow minute withdrawals. Loryn inserted the needle through the seal with a motion so precise that no blood escaped around the point.

He retracted the plunger, revealing a solitary, almost imperceptible droplet, a sphere of liquid gold-dark, within the needle’s chamber.

He released it into a prepared crystal vessel no larger than a fingernail.

The drop of blood hit the vessel and immediately began to emanate a subtle pulse.

The orange glow of Loryn’s eyes intensified in response, reflecting the wavelength of power that had just been introduced to the library.

From the sterile kit, he retrieved a complex compound.

A dark mana tracking matrix that he had spent weeks developing specifically for this purpose. It was crystalline in structure but behaved like a liquid, flowing around particles of blood while maintaining perfect chemical separation.

He mixed them with a thin glass rod, operating with surgical precision.

The combination created an immediate reaction. The blood droplet and the tracking matrix began to vibrate, creating a visible shimmer in the crystal vessel. The ambient mana in the library’s immediate vicinity stopped flickering and became still.

The shelves stopped groaning, and the whole library held its breath.

Loryn understood what was happening. The fortress recognized the signature of its Master. But recognition was not compliance. Compliance required full saturation of the Master’s essence through the building’s leylines and structural networks.

He raised the vessel containing the mixture and released it into the air above his workspace.

The effect was instantaneous and catastrophic.

The blood-tracking matrix combination didn’t disperse as normal liquids would. Instead, it vaporized.

Not through heat, but through magical saturation. The mist that rose from the vessel was visible, golden-dark, bearing the absolute authority that defined Jack Kaiser’s existence.

The mist spread through the library like a tide.

Shelves that had been shifting and groaning ceased all movement. The sound of stone grinding against stone stopped mid-motion, leaving an eerie silence that felt heavier than any noise could have been.

Massive walls that formed the library’s passages locked into place. Hidden staircases that had been concealed dropped down from the ceiling with controlled precision, revealing pathways that had never been accessible to anything but the Master himself.

The diagnostic crystal on the pedestal flared bright white as the blood-mana mixture passed through it. The crystal began to pulse, creating a beacon that resonated with the exact frequency of Jack Kaiser’s authority.

And directly ahead of Loryn, through the now-frozen architecture, a corridor opened that had not existed moments before.

The skeletal demon’s flame eyes burned so bright they cast shadows across the library walls as he gathered his materials and began to walk.

His bare feet clicked sharply against the stone floor. Each step took him deeper into the library’s most protected section, following a path that would have been hidden from any consciousness that didn’t carry the Master’s mark.

The diagnostic crystal’s pulsing grew stronger with each step forward, its light brighter, its resonance more intense.

It was tracking the source of the blood-mana mixture’s signature. Guiding him toward whatever the library had hidden from all access but Jack’s.

The corridor seemed to stretch infinitely, but distance held no meaning in the library’s altered geometry. One moment, Loryn was in the library’s open spaces. Next, he stood in a hidden stone alcove that predated the rest of the structure.

And there, suspended in a stasis field that radiated dark mana so potent it hurt to perceive, was the scroll.

The Dark Mana Imbuement blueprint.

It was ancient. The scroll’s surface bore markings that Malakai himself had created in the earliest days of the Spire’s construction.

The parchment was dark, almost black, and covered in runes that seemed to shift when viewed from the periphery.

The stasis field that protected it radiated a frequency that matched the diagnostic crystal perfectly.

Loryn approached with movements that remained mechanical, unchanged, despite the magnitude of what he was witnessing.

His skeletal hand reached toward the field, and the crystal pulsed once.

A brilliant white flash that burned away the protective barriers.

The scroll became accessible.

Loryn retrieved it with the careful precision of someone handling something irreplaceable. The moment his fingers touched the parchment, the scroll’s surface seemed to acknowledge his contact, to recognize him as an extension of the Master’s will.

His flame eyes were burning so bright now that they cast their own light across the hidden alcove.

The blueprint for dark mana imbue. The mechanism for forcing dark essence into a target’s soul without consent or preparation.

A technique that would allow him to create entirely new strains of obedient creatures, each one bound not just through collars but through the fundamental structure of their magical essence.

He sealed the scroll away in a protective container and turned back toward the corridor.

As he retraced his steps, the library began to restore itself. The staircase that had dropped from the ceiling retracted. The walls that had opened shifted back into place. The shelves that had frozen resumed their endless, chaotic movement.

By the time Loryn reached the main library space, the building had returned to its standard configuration. The blood-mana mixture had dissipated completely, leaving no trace of what had occurred.

Only the diagnostic crystal remained as evidence.

Now pulsing with a different frequency, one that carried a new level of authority. It recognized not just the Master, but those who had acted under his direct command.

Loryn’s skeletal frame moved with methodical precision as he gathered his materials and secured the scroll.

His flame eyes had settled back to a steady orange glow, the excitement of discovery already subordinating itself to the logic of application.

He was already mentally cataloging the implications of the scroll’s contents. The dark mana imbue process would allow for unprecedented control mechanisms.

No longer would demons need to be limited to one element. They could be imprinted from their very essence, their fundamental nature rewritten to prioritize service above all other instincts.

”Master will be pleased when he learns of my success.” Loryn grinned at his newfound success.
