Chapter 677: Chapter 275: Imperial Envoy! Breaching the Capital of Chu!

Upon hearing the roar of the King of Chu.

The messenger kneeling inside the great hall trembled in fear and said, ”Reporting to the Great King, General Qu Zhang underestimated the Qin Army. Instead of using his forces to hold Qu City, he engaged the Qin Army in battle outside the city and was directly defeated by Lord Wu’an Zhao Feng, resulting in the annihilation of three hundred thousand troops.”

As soon as these words were spoken.

It was like a thunderclap in the court of Chu State.

”What did you say?”

”Not gathering troops to defend, but instead engaging the Qin Army directly outside the city?”

The King of Chu widened his eyes, seemingly in disbelief.

”Indeed.” The messenger trembled as he spoke.

And the King of Chu’s gaze turned to the Qu Clan, for Qu Zhang was his son.

Faced with the gaze of the entire court.

He lowered his head, not daring to respond.

Abandoning the advantage of the city to meet the Qin Army head-on, especially against Lord Wu’an’s military camp, he truly dared not acknowledge such a foolish action.

And at this moment, the court fell into complete silence.

The Qu Family held great power, even though this defeat was due to Qu Zhang, no one dared to speak up against them, moreover, Qu Zhang had already fallen in battle.

”Qu City has fallen, the Qin Army is less than two hundred miles from our capital.”

”Lords, what shall we do?”

”Where else are there soldiers to deploy?”

The King of Chu asked anxiously, looking at the court.

”Great King.”

”The three hundred thousand troops were all the forces we had gathered, even including nearly a hundred thousand new recruits.”

”Now, apart from the fifty thousand Imperial Guards and some tens of thousands of Capital City Army, there are no more troops to deploy.” Zhao Wen said with a troubled expression.

”Then what shall we do?”

”Should we just watch as Qin attacks?” The King’s voice roared in question.

”Great King.”

”The only strategy now is to recall Senior General Xiang Yan for support.”

A minister spoke up.

”Recall Xiang Yan for support?”

”But what about the Qin Army on the western front?” The King of Chu retorted angrily.

”Great King.”

”Since the situation has come to this.”

”Aside from recalling Xiang Yan, there is no other method.”

”Once the army returns for support, we can fortify the capital and engage the Qin Army in a war of attrition.”

”As long as we hold on, Great Chu can certainly repel the Qin Army.” Zhao Wen said immediately.

”But if we allow the two Qin forces to merge, wouldn’t Great Chu face an even greater crisis?” Even though the King of Chu was not wise, he understood the danger of the two Qin forces joining together.

”Great King.”

”If we do not recall Xiang Yan, what other strategies are there against the enemy?” Zhao Wen coldly replied.

The entire court of ministers looked expectantly at the King of Chu.

Though he was king, he was under immense pressure.

”Let it be as you suggest.”

Under such coercion, the King of Chu could only nod.

For among the hundreds of officials, not one could ease his worries.

Chufang City!

”Senior General.”

”An urgent edict from the Great King.”

”The Qin Army has annihilated our three hundred thousand troops at Qu City. Now the capital has no barrier, guarded only by a hundred thousand soldiers. If the Qin Army reaches the capital, Great Chu will be doomed.”

”Please, Senior General, return swiftly for aid.”

A soldier from the Capital of Chu reported to Xiang Yan.

”Three hundred thousand troops, Qu City annihilated by the Qin Army?”

”How could it be so?” Xiang Yan frowned, evidently unable to comprehend.

”General Qu Zhang did not defend the city but led his army to face the Qin Army directly.”

”It resulted in a crushing defeat.” The messenger reported with a tone of helplessness.

”Facing the Qin Army directly?”

Xiang Yan frowned deeply, a flicker of anger in his eyes: ”Foolish, useless person.”

”Is it truly destined to destroy Great Chu?”

Although Xiang Yan harbored some ambition, as the Senior General of the Chu State, he certainly did not want the country to perish, holding a deep sense of responsibility for his homeland.

”Senior General.”

”An urgent edict from the Great King demands your immediate return to the capital for assistance.” The messenger said once more.

”I understand.”

”Report back, I will find a way to return for support.” Xiang Yan said solemnly.

”Understood.” The messenger bowed and swiftly retreated.

After he left.

The surrounding generals looked at Xiang Yan with discontent.

”Senior General.”

”Are we really to return for support?”

”Once we return, the Qin Army at the front will surely advance directly. If the Hangu Qin Army merges with the forces of Lord Wu’an, Great Chu will have even less chance.” The deputy general said solemnly.

”This matter, I naturally understand.” Xiang Yan said solemnly.

At this moment, he was extremely conflicted.

If he did not return for support.

Then he would be guilty of defying orders, a grave crime.

Even if Chu State perished, he, Xiang Yan, would become a disloyal subject.

Carrying forever his infamy.

As for surrendering to Qin?

Xiang Yan had never considered it; he wished to protect Chu State from ruin.

”Senior General Xiang Yan.”

”Lord Changping requests an audience.”

At this moment!

A voice rang in Xiang Yan’s ear.

Following the sound.

Mi Qi came over quickly, with a face of urgency.

Upon seeing Mi Qi, a sharp light flashed in Xiang Yan’s eyes, as if he had thought of something.

”Perhaps, there is another choice.”

Xiang Yan stared intently at Mi Qi, his mind already made up.

Meanwhile, in the Hangu Pass Camp.

”Senior General.”

”We just received a secret report.”

”Lord Wu’an annihilated thirty thousand of Chu’s forces in Qu City, and has taken countless captives.”

”Now I presume Lord Wu’an is heading straight for the Capital of Chu.” Li Xin said excitedly.

Upon hearing this news.

Huan Yi showed no sign of surprise.

”Truly deserving of being Lord Wu’an.”

”Qin’s rightful War God.”

”In just over four months, more than half of Chu’s forces have been annihilated by Lord Wu’an.”

”In less than three months, Chu will fall.” Huan Yi said with a hearty laugh.

”Then Senior General, shall our forces attack Chufang City?” Li Xin asked, his eyes eager for action.

In these past months.

The cities neighboring Chufang City had all been conquered by the Hangu Pass Camp, but Chufang City alone, being easy to defend and hard to attack, had not been assaulted. Huan Yi had persisted in a standoff with the Chu Army here, clearly intending to pin down Xiang Yan.
