My Youth Began With Him

Again, Zhu Lingling didn’t know what to say…

”The truth is, I feel really bad for minks, especially farm-bred ones. They were born to die, so their fur can be stripped away and made into beautiful coats. A while back, I saw a photo of a baby mink calling out for its mother while wearing a mink coat. At that moment, I swore to never wear mink coats again, because the price for beauty is too bloody and cruel. There are a lot of ways to stay warm in the winter, why do we have to kill off innocent animals to do so?” Huo Mian said, word for word.

”Girl, I didn’t know that before, but after hearing what you said, I don’t want to go shopping anymore. If we don’t buy these things, they won’t kill those animals, and baby minks won’t die in vain. I’ll never wear mink coats again.” Zhu Lingling felt guilty upon hearing what Huo Mian said.

”Lingling, you might think I’m being a Mary Sue, but I want to say that when I chose to become a doctor, I promised to myself that I will forever respect lives, whether it’s the life of humans or animals. I really can’t face the cruelty behind beauty, but I will never judge you for anything because everyone has the right to choose.”

”I know, if I had known how cruel it was before, I wouldn’t have wanted to buy a mink coat,” Zhu Lingling replied.

At 11 PM or so, Huo Mian fell asleep in Qin Chu’s arms after her conversation with Lingling.

At 6-ish in the morning the next day, she and Qin Chu had just arrived downstairs to have breakfast when they saw Mrs. Qin storm into their manor.

”Mom, why are you here so early?” Qin Chu was surprised to see his mother.

”To talk to you, of course,” Mrs. Qin said as she glanced at them.

”Have you eaten? Uncle Li, prepare another set of cutleries for the table,” Qin Chu said, but his mother stopped him. ”No, it’s okay, I don’t want to eat. I need to talk to you guys.”

”Go ahead.” Huo Mian saw that Mrs. Qin looked at her with a little animosity and immediately knew that it was about her.

Mrs. Qin took out her phone, opened the video from yesterday and slammed the phone onto the dining table. She demanded, ”Here, take a look, is this you?”

Huo Mian picked up the phone, glanced at the video, and nodded calmly. ”It is.”

Qin Chu also looked over and asked, ”What’s up, Mom? Is something wrong?”

”How dare you ask me if something’s wrong? Your wife played a duet with another man, did you know that?”

”I did, she was the maid of honor and the bride is her really good friend. The MC asked them to perform, so she and the best man played the piano, and the bride and groom sang,” Qin Chu explained.

”Are things as simple as that? Huo Mian, do you or do you not know Su Yu.”

”I do.” Huo Mian nodded.

”What is your relationship with him?” Mrs. Qin asked with a dark expression.

Huo Mian put down the glass of milk in her hand and said slowly, ”The truth is… your question is really funny. What relationship could I have with him? If there really was something going on between the two of us, then I would be Mrs. Su right now, not Mrs. Qin.”

Then, before Mrs. Qin had the chance to say anything, Huo Mian continued, ”So please don’t say that I married Qin Chu for his money because technically, the Su family is richer and more powerful than yours… I can sacrifice my own life to be with Qin Chu, you saw what happened with your own eyes. Therefore, I really don’t know why you keep asking me weird questions like this. Have you been confused by those who are trying to cause trouble and stir up chaos in our family?”

Huo Mian got straight to the point; she didn’t want to keep fighting with Mrs. Qin.

”But you can’t disregard the reputation of our family.” Mrs. Qin was obviously unconvinced.

”Mom, I knew that she was the maid of honor, and I knew she played the piano. She discusses these things with me before doing them, and she didn’t disregard our family reputation. Think about it, if there was really something going on between her and Su Yu, do you think she would play piano with him in public? Isn’t it much safer to see him in private?”

Upon hearing what Qin Chu said, Mrs. Qin thought that her son had a point.

Huo Mian, on the other hand, glanced at Mrs. Qin as she asked, ”So… did you get this video from Song Yishi?”

”How… did you know?” Mrs. Qin was surprised that Huo Mian guessed right.
