My Youth Began With Him

“I can’t reach him anymore. He ran off three years ago, ever since we discovered that Shuai Shuai was suffering from kidney disease… Apparently, he ran off with the wife of a construction worker, and no one knows where he is… Shuai Shuai’s maternal grandparents won’t talk to us either, and I’m out of options… I can’t just watch him die, I can’t bear it.”

Xie Juan sat by the side of the bed and started crying again as she spoke…

“Mom, I won’t die… I will live very long, and I’ll take care of you when you retire.”

The little boy’s voice sounded very crisp and innocent. Everyone said that children spoke the truth, and what they said would always come from their hearts.

Huo Mian didn’t ask anything else…

– Twenty minutes later –

South Side’s ambulance arrived…

“Head Nurse.”

“Take this child to South Side, put him into an ICU. Sanitize and wash him first, then conduct a series of checkups on him. Also, get Doctor Qi of the Internal Medicine Department to properly examine him. Tell him I’m the one asking.”

“Yes, Head Nurse.”

Then, they took Shuai Shuai into the ambulance…

Xie Juan seemed to have relaxed a bit…

“You really will save him, right?” Xie Juan still didn’t seem to fully believe it.

“Don’t worry, it will be fine as long as we find a matching kidney… His disease isn’t terminal, in most cases, the patient will make a full recovery.”

“Then good, that’s good.” Xie Juan nodded nonstop.

“Now can you tell me your story?” Huo Mian knew Xie Juan was someone with a story.

So, Huo Mian planned to listen to her story first and then decide how to treat her in the future…

She originally planned to force Xie Juan into begging for Ni Yang’s forgiveness. As long as Xie Juan could be a good mother, she was willing to threaten her.

It would be fine even if Xie Juan acted, but she had to pay Ni Yang back for all these years…

Xie Juan sat by the door of their bungalow, bit her lips, and slowly said, “Ni Yang’s father is the reason why I don’t love him… I’ve always loved Shuai Shuai’s father. Back then, our village often had film screenings, and since the entire village would go, I did as well. One night, I headed back very late, and on my way back along the dark road, I was… pulled into the sorghum field by Ni Yang’s father and raped.”

Huo Mian felt slightly shocked upon hearing this…

“Ha… it might be fate. I was impregnated that one time and my parents were ashamed of me, so they wanted me to marry him. He was the infamous alcoholic in our village, and I didn’t want to, so I went to find Shuai Shuai’s father. But he frowned upon me as well and said that he didn’t want a woman that someone else raped. People gossiped, and I couldn’t bear the pressure, so I was left with no choice but to marry Ni Yang’s father… He began to beat me ever since I got pregnant. He would beat me every time he was drunk, and I nearly had a miscarriage this one time… but Ni Yang was strong, so I was able to give birth to him… But that man never changed out of his old habits. He didn’t work all day, and only drank, and after he was drunk he would hit people. I truly couldn’t stand it anymore… I couldn’t find hope in that life… But then, the person who was supposed to marry Shuai Shuai’s father suddenly backed out, so he came to see me in sorrow and we got back together. We snuck out to see each other several times, and even had Shuai Shuai… Later on, I decided to leave him.”

“Then why didn’t you take Ni Yang with you?” Huo Mian looked at this woman before her with hints of sympathy.

“How can I bring him? Shuai Shuai’s father was only a construction worker and earned his living carrying bricks. It was already very hard enough for him to support Shuai Shuai and I… Plus he said that he would break up with me if I brought Ni Yang along… I didn’t want him to leave me. I was truly terrified of living like I used to. Plus, I didn’t love Ni Yang’s father, so I decided to escape from the old home. However, I never expected that… Shuai Shuai’s father was a scumbag as well. He ran off as soon as our child got sick. He even said that Shuai Shuai was a bottomless hole, and we should leave his life to fate.”

Tears trickled down Xie Juan’s face as she spoke…

Even though she tried hard to cover her mouth so she didn’t cry so loud, Huo Mian still felt heartbroken by her story…

If she didn’t hear Xie Juan speak about it herself, then she would never believe that a woman as unlucky and unhappy as she existed in this world.

Her life was truly like hell… It was extremely miserable.

“Then why didn’t you tell Ni Yang about all this? If you told him, then I’m sure that he would have sympathized.”
