Villainess X Villain: They are obsessed with each other!

Chapter 263: Chapter: 262 Buying a House.[2]

Jasmine and Kavin walked through one of the quieter districts of Sun Family City.

Compared to the crowded commercial streets they had crossed earlier, this area felt far more peaceful.

The flow of people had thinned considerably, replaced by neat roads and carefully maintained properties.

This was where most of the city’s financially stable residents lived. Not the truly wealthy families who occupied sprawling estates and private compounds, but successful merchants, retired spell casters, business owners, and officials with respectable standings.

There were not many houses around. Perhaps a hundred in total.

Each property was separated from the street by sturdy walls and decorative gates, granting residents a level of privacy rarely found elsewhere in the city.

Stone drainage channels ran neatly alongside the roads, carrying away rainwater and helping keep the district remarkably clean.

The surrounding facilities only increased the value of the area.

A large hospital stood only fifty houses away while a reputable school could be seen further down the district. Markets, inns, and other necessities were all within a reasonable distance.

It was, by every definition, an ideal residential area.

Even an ordinary house here could easily cost one or two million taels.

And they had just spent fifty million.

Though, to be fair, the house they had purchased was anything but ordinary.

They had already inspected the property multiple times alongside a broker from the agency.

Every room, every corridor, every corner of the estate had been reviewed in detail. Earlier today they had finalized the payment and officially received the keys.

The house was theirs.

As they continued walking toward their destination, Jasmine suddenly spoke.

”By the way...”

The street remained mostly empty. Every now and then a horse-drawn carriage would pass by, or a rider would move through the district, but otherwise there was nobody close enough to overhear them.

As long as she maintained her voice, speaking sometimes wasn’t much of a problem.

”We bought the house, but couldn’t we have purchased something cheaper?” she asked. ”After all, our son is dead. We’re supposed to be grieving parents. Won’t this create suspicion?”

Before Kavin could answer, her expression changed completely.

Her shoulders straightened as her eyes narrowed.

In an instant she transformed into the image of a neighborhood auntie whose greatest cultivation achievement was gossip.

”Look at them,” she said in an exaggerated whisper. ”I heard their child died and they still have the energy to buy a huge house. Tsk, tsk. Parents these days don’t even grieve properly.”

She shook her head dramatically.

”Back in our day, when our sons used to die, we would stop doing everything and cry all the time. Only after getting another pair would we finally calm down.”

She finished with a proud snort.

Kavin could only sigh.

”You’re exaggerating.”

Then he added, ”And make sure you talk less.” His expression became serious.

”They say even the walls have eyes.”

Jasmine blinked.

”It’s walls have ears.”

”...”

Kavin fell silent. For several seconds he simply stared ahead.

Then he coughed: ”Ahem. Details are unimportant.”

He continued walking as though nothing had happened.

”But you understand what I’m saying, right? We must not be careless. The world is cruel and fate is uncertain. What we must do is remain vigilant at all times.”

His tone gradually shifted from cautionary advice into one of his increasingly common lectures.

”Look at you. You were fully capable of speaking, but because of how terrible your words are, nobody can understand whatever broken language comes out of your mouth.”

Jasmine rolled her eyes. The conversation had somehow wandered far away from the original topic.

Again.

She considered interrupting, then decided against it, one thing he was right about.

The walls had eyes.

Or ears....or Whatever.

The point remained the same, so she simply stopped listening.

Meanwhile, Kavin continued speaking with the unstoppable momentum of a scholar who had discovered an audience incapable of escaping.

”...which is why caution is important. Also, the world is round.”

He paused....”Or maybe not.”

A moment later he waved his hand dismissively.

”Whatever. That’s not important.”

Jasmine stared ahead blankly.

”The important thing is that when we get back, we kill that bastard Crypain with the Soul Severing Sword.”

Kavin nodded to himself. ”Then we wipe out your family for everything they’ve done to you.”

Another nod. ”After that we get married.”

Jasmine’s eyelid twitched.

”Though, honestly, marriage sounds like a hassle. We can probably skip straight to the children.”

His expression turned thoughtful.

”You see, I think we need at least a sports team. Twelve or thirteen children should be enough.”

He continued speaking.

And speaking.

And speaking.

Jasmine’s mind had already left her body several minutes ago. By now she was merely following the sound of his voice like background noise.

Eventually, after what felt like several lifetimes of uninterrupted nonsense, she suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist.

Kavin stopped.

His endless stream of words finally came to an abrupt halt.

”Hm?”

He looked around. Only then did he realize he had nearly walked right past their destination.

The moment his gaze landed upon it, a smile appeared on his face.

Before them stood their house.

The property occupied a large plot of land, more than twice the size of most neighboring homes. A sturdy outer wall surrounded the estate while an elegant metal gate separated it from the street.

Beyond the gate stretched a spacious lawn covered in lush green grass.

A narrow tiled pathway cut through the greenery and led directly toward the main building.

Even from outside they could appreciate its appearance.

The house was large but not absurdly so.

Compared to the enormous mansion in Agarta, this place appeared modest.

Compared to everyone else’s homes, however, it looked magnificent.

The two-story building possessed a clean rectangular design. Its walls were painted a luxurious pale silver while subtle black accents outlined the edges and windows, creating an elegant contrast.

A wide balcony extended from the upper floor. From where they stood, they could even see the closed doors leading to the second-floor bedrooms.

Atop the roof sat one of their favorite features.

A swimming pool.

Neither of them actually needed one....that wasn’t the point.. though.

The point was that, the idea of relaxing there at night while overlooking the city sounded incredibly appealing.

Since their disguises prevented certain activities they would otherwise enjoy, having a rooftop pool felt like a perfect substitute.

A place to relax and a place to drink, a place where they could simply exist without worrying about anything.

”Whoa...”

Kavin’s voice emerged quietly, his eyes shone as he stared at the house.

”I can’t believe I’m saying this.” A strange smile appeared on his face.

”Sometimes it’s better if you’re poor.”

”Right?” Jasmine replied with a smile.

Slowly she pushed open the heavy iron gate and stepped onto the lush green lawn. There was an unmistakable, deeply rooted sense of pride radiating in her every movement.

And honestly, to anyone who knew them, it made perfect sense.

Both of them had grown up surrounded by the kind of immense wealth that most ordinary people could never even begin to imagine.

Money had never been scarce in their lives.

If they wanted something, no matter how extravagant, it usually appeared before they even finished asking for it.

Because of that absolute abundance, many simple joys had never truly meant anything to them.

A poor farmer’s child might treasure a single wooden toy for years. A family sharing a single television might gather together tightly every evening and cherish those fleeting moments.

People naturally valued things they struggled hard to obtain. But when everything came easily from birth, it became incredibly difficult to appreciate any of it.

Julius had been given practically everything while growing up.

Expensive imported toys, top-tier resources, rare training materials, and luxuries far beyond count.

Even in his previous life, modern conveniences had been everywhere. Televisions, advanced technology, endless entertainment—none of it felt special because it was always readily available.

Yet now, things were entirely different.

Now he had been poor....painfully, bitterly poor.

So poor that every single tael mattered for survival.

And after all the desperate fighting, high-stakes gambling, clever scheming, surviving, and outright stealing, though he personally preferred not to focus on that particular, messy detail, they had finally earned enough money to buy something truly theirs.

As he stared up at the massive house, a strange, unfamiliar feeling rose within him.

True pride.

A genuine smile spread across his face. Holding Jasmine’s small hand tightly, he walked through the gate and onto the grand property.

”What do you think we should call the house?”

Jasmine opened her mouth, fully intending to think of a proper answer. Unfortunately, Kavin had already impatiently answered his own question.

His eyes brightened instantly as a sudden look of pure inspiration appeared on his face.

”Let’s call it...”

He pointed dramatically at the magnificent, fifty-million-tael estate standing proudly before them.

”Bandit’s Hut.”

Jasmine slowly looked at the luxurious, sprawling mansion.

Then she looked blankly at him, then back at the mansion, and finally right back at him.
