Apocalypse Villainess? Nah, I'm Nice

What neither of them expected was that the superpower check didn’t just involve various instruments to determine their Superpower Level; it started with a brainwave scan.

Ever since the Research Institute announced that the brainwaves of Superpower Users differed from those of ordinary people, this finding was quickly put into practice. The city entrance inspection was one such example.

Paige Summers was fine. Since she possessed a dual-element superpower, her brainwaves were naturally different from an ordinary person’s, so her cover wasn’t blown. It was just that her brainwaves were so active that the testing personnel found it strange.

Erin Quinn, however, was inevitably taken away alone.

Sean Raines’s expression turned grim. The instruments didn’t lie, and the situation was obvious: Erin Quinn had hidden something from him. Or rather, they had hidden it from him together! He glared fiercely at Paige Summers, his anger fueled not only by the deception but also by the feeling of being distrusted. ”Why didn’t you tell me?!”

’Of course I didn’t tell you... I can’t fully trust you yet...’ Though she thought this, she knew she could never say it aloud. Paige Summers could only feign a look of utter confusion. ’I have no idea what you’re talking about, okay?’

Perhaps her performance was too convincing, or perhaps her eyes were too clear. Sean Raines actually began to hesitate. ’Could it be... she really doesn’t know?’ His anger gradually subsided, and he fell silent, intent on waiting for Erin Quinn to come out so he could get a clear answer.

Claire Chapman and the others finished their checks one after another and returned to the main hall. Seeing the situation, they all gathered around. ”What’s wrong?”

Paige Summers silently shook her head.

About five minutes later, Erin Quinn finally came out, escorted by the same person who had taken her away. The person even gave her a friendly pat on the head, and Paige Summers’s heart instantly settled.

Sean Raines was the first to rush forward.

The man was heard speaking to him in a sincere and heartfelt tone. ”The child is still young, and her superpower hasn’t awakened yet. You, as her older brother, need to provide more guidance and help her succeed as soon as possible! The sooner her superpower awakens, the greater her future accomplishments will be. A guardian has to put in the effort...”

While marveling at the man’s earnestness, Paige Summers held back her laughter as she watched Erin Quinn, who, instead of her usual habit of pouncing on Paige, was acting like a delicate fledgling snuggled up against Sean Raines. She even found a moment to wink at Paige! Meanwhile, Sean Raines could only play the part of the guardian and meekly accept the lecture. When the man finally said the check was complete and they could leave, Sean even apologized to Paige Summers with great vexation.

Paige Summers instantly thought to herself, ’With a junior as young and crafty as Erin Quinn, that guy is really unlucky! And the worst part is, he’s the one who brought her along... Guess I’ll just have to silently light a candle for him.’

With the disturbance settled, everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief.

After they each collected their Identity Cards, only one final matter remained: assigning their living quarters.

Central City’s residential area was divided into five districts.

The Fifth District was the largest, and it was mostly inhabited by ordinary people.

Districts Two to Four were relatively small and inhabited by Superpower Users. Although the districts were smaller, the living environments were clearly superior. Furthermore, the higher one’s Superpower Rank, the more prestigious their assigned district, and the better the benefits provided by The Government. Many factions under The Government’s jurisdiction were also located in District 2, such as the Buddhist Society and the Taoist Association to which Sean Raines and his master belonged.

As for District One, those stationed there were all of the utmost importance to the country: government agencies, Military Command, the Research Institute, as well as some powerful and influential families...

Paige Summers and her group naturally fell into the category for Districts Two to Four. However, the specific district they would be assigned to was not their decision to make; rather, The Government would review their overall circumstances.

Rachel Forrest had already expressed her and Leo Forrest’s loyalty to Paige Summers, insisting that they wanted to stay with the group. They didn’t care where, as long as they had a place to live.

Paige Summers felt that they had performed well on the journey. Besides, just after arriving in Central City, having two more Superpower Users wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. If nothing else, Leo Forrest’s Water Ability was just too useful! So, she casually agreed. When reporting to the administration staff, she also mentioned that they were teammates and hoped to be assigned together.

After a brief review period, the results were out.

They were presented with two choices.

According to the standard procedure, Paige Summers and Claire Chapman were assigned to the Third District, while the others were assigned to the Fourth District. If they insisted on living together, they had to choose the lower-tier option, not the higher one, meaning everyone would go to the Fourth District.

Without a moment’s hesitation, the two of them decisively chose the latter.

Rachel Forrest was deeply moved.

However, Levi Young, who rarely spoke and was practically an invisible man, knew perfectly well that this decision was most likely made to accommodate him.

Each lost in their own thoughts, they paid a painfully large processing fee, quickly boarded a vehicle, and didn’t want to linger a moment longer! Sean Raines offered some comfort, saying they were actually the lucky ones. They had enough Crystal Cores; those who didn’t weren’t so fortunate and had to pay with supplies. And if you wanted to procure those same supplies again after entering the city, the price would likely more than just double!
