Engagement Annulled? Now The Husbands Kneel and Beg for Her Favor

When the call connected, both ends fell silent.

Jiang Qingli heard the deliberately suppressed breathing on the other end, and her mind went blank for a moment.

Ever since she’d accidentally walked into Jiang Youchen’s room during his special period, Jiang Qingli hadn’t dared to go looking for him, and they hadn’t crossed paths.

Although Jiang Qingli had long since removed him from her blocklist, they hadn’t contacted each other in that time.

Their only exchange had been in the early hours of the morning.

He had sent a message, but quickly retracted it a few seconds later.

Jiang Qingli had been fast asleep at the time. When she woke up and asked about it, all she saw on the blank chat screen were two jarring words: [Sent by mistake.]

They hadn’t seen each other in a while, and Jiang Qingli felt a growing distance between them. Not knowing how to respond, she had only been able to send back a simple nodding emoji.

After that, they hadn’t been in contact.

’Why would Jiang Youchen... suddenly call me now?’

’Is it something important? Is he not feeling well?’

Jiang Qingli furrowed her brow in worry. ”What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

”No, don’t worry.” The young man’s voice was low as he spoke casually, ”I heard a loud noise. Did something happen?”

Her heart, which had just settled, instantly started racing again at his words.

Jiang Qingli felt her face grow scorching hot, her fingers curling restlessly.

’How could I have forgotten? Jiang Youchen’s room is right below mine...’

Jiang Youchen was usually so mature, like an elder. She couldn’t possibly tell him that she and her Beast Husband were making out and had gotten so carried away they were making a racket on the floor, could she?

The girl spoke haltingly. ”N-nothing, I just accidentally knocked over a chair—”

Before she could finish, her eyes widened and her voice came to an abrupt halt.

While she was on the phone, Ye Linyuan had brazenly wrapped himself around her, his long, slender fingers circling her waist and giving it a squeeze.

Her earlobe was gently bitten, a snake’s tongue traced the shell of her ear, hissing cool air.

The tip of Jiang Qingli’s ear itched. She raised a hand to push him away, only for him to grab her wrist and guide it elsewhere.

’This snake... he can’t stay still for a single moment.’

Jiang Qingli shot him a glare and forced herself to continue her sentence, ”Brother, it’s nothing. I just accidentally knocked over the chair.”

There was no response from the other end of the call.

Ye Linyuan, on the other hand, seemed to find her lie too ridiculous and let out a soft chuckle, his lips curving.

His low, magnetic voice was especially jarring in the dark of night.

Jiang Qingli didn’t know if Jiang Youchen had heard it, but in any case, her own heart was about to leap out of her chest.

She raised a hand to cover Ye Linyuan’s mouth and nose, but felt a tickle in her palm. Those golden, slitted pupils narrowed, but they weren’t looking at her. They were looking at the terminal she was holding.

The provocative intent was obvious.

Jiang Qingli didn’t notice her Beast Husband’s inexplicable hostility. She was busy trying to change the subject, speaking weakly into the terminal, ”Brother...”

”Hm?” Jiang Youchen responded.

His voice seemed a little hoarse, but not too different from usual.

’He probably didn’t hear it, right?’

The alarm bells in Jiang Qingli’s mind quieted, and she turned to asking about his well-being. ”Are you feeling any better? I heard from Old Qin that you haven’t eaten all day.”

”I’m fine.” The young man’s voice was deep. ”I’ll eat later.”

”Okay...”

With the awkward incident glossed over, Jiang Qingli didn’t hang up right away. Instead, she swung her legs, feeling a little lost.

She actually really wanted to say something to Jiang Youchen. They hadn’t seen each other in so long, and they used to be able to talk about anything.

But seeing each other again after three years, it always felt like there was something between them...

It was a feeling Jiang Qingli couldn’t get used to.

”Ah Li.”

The cool, deep voice spoke from the other end of the terminal.

Jiang Qingli’s back straightened slightly. ”Yes?”

Jiang Youchen said in a low voice, ”Go to sleep early. Don’t stay up too late.”

”Okay. You go to sleep early too, Brother.”

Jiang Qingli said obediently, like a perfectly well-behaved child.

However, just as she finished her reply, her chin was grabbed and she was pressed into the soft bedding.

A small sound that escaped her throat was immediately smothered. Ye Linyuan narrowed his eyes and reached out to end the call on the terminal.

And then, his kisses traveled down the side of her waist...

When she came to her senses, Jiang Qingli was lying on Ye Linyuan’s chest. She stopped his next move, her brow furrowed in conflict. ”Let’s not... It’ll be too loud and noisy...”

Thinking about the phone call earlier made her cringe so hard her toes curled, she felt like she could dig a castle.

Leaning against the headboard, Ye Linyuan sneered, ”You weren’t afraid of him finding out when you were enjoying it just now, were you?”

Jiang Qingli: ”...”

’But wasn’t that his fault for deliberately seducing me?’

’I’m just a simple female; how could I possibly resist all his tricks?’

Blushing, Jiang Qingli was still worried. ”How is that the same thing? Don’t you know how much noise you make? Besides, you didn’t come in through the front door. What if my brother thinks some weirdo broke in and tells security to come in and catch...”

She didn’t get to say the last word before Ye Linyuan raised a hand to press against her lips.

”You are my legal female master.” His slitted pupils narrowed as he emphasized each word. ”What we do doesn’t require anyone else’s opinion.”

After he spoke, he got up and went to the other side of the room.

Jiang Qingli heard a cabinet open and asked, ”What are you looking for?”

”The sheets,” he said. ”We’ll need to change them later.”

Jiang Qingli: ”...”

Jiang Qingli looked up, her eyes lingering on her Beast Husband’s amazing body in the play of light and shadow, feeling conflicted. ”The room’s soundproofing is on, so how did my brother hear anything? Does your Superpower have a silencing effect?”

Clearly displeased that she kept bringing up another male, Ye Linyuan’s brows knitted together. ”Don’t talk about him.”

Jiang Qingli was not happy with his reaction. ”He’s your brother-in-law.”

Ye Linyuan’s lips twitched, clearly not accepting that title.

Jiang Qingli was still worried about other things. ”For your special period, does it get better toward the end? Or does it get worse?”

Ye Linyuan knew who she was worried about and sneered, ”What does his suffering have to do with you? You’re not a doctor.”

The mockery in his tone was very obvious.

Jiang Qingli thought about it seriously for a few seconds, then scrambled for her terminal. ”You’re right. I’ll call a doctor to check on him.”

Ye Linyuan: ”...”

-

The night was thick.

A long time had passed since the phone call ended.

Jiang Youchen sat in the pitch-black room, his expression numb and cold as he stared into the void.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

His dim eyes suddenly lit up.

The beastified dragon tail retracted. Jiang Youchen swayed as he stood up, straightened his back, and smoothed out his clothes.

The door opened, but it was Nurse Hu’s face he saw. ”Young Master Youchen, I’m here to do your check-up.”

Jiang Youchen’s lips twitched, as if he wasn’t surprised.

He stepped aside to let her enter with her equipment.

Although he was already used to this kind of treatment, before closing the door, Jiang Youchen’s gaze fell on the staircase not far away.

It was just a glance, but his eyes suddenly froze.

By the stairs, the girl was squatting not far away, secretly peeking in his direction.

Their eyes met. Jiang Qingli waved at him, her own eyes curving into crescents as she mouthed a word.

It was the word he was so familiar with—”Brother”—and a gesture telling him to hang in there.

”Young Master?” the nurse asked cautiously.

Jiang Youchen closed the door and cooperated with the examination.

The results showed that Jiang Youchen’s special period had stabilized significantly. It would most likely end next week. Starting tomorrow, if he needed to appear in public, a standard sedative injection would be sufficient.

After seeing the nurse out, Jiang Youchen glanced toward the staircase.

No one was there anymore, as if the scene just now had been a hallucination.

The door closed, and his vision was once again plunged into thick darkness.

After that day, she had never come to his room again.

But Jiang Youchen still felt that her scent was everywhere.

Or rather, it had been carved into his very bones long ago, impossible to forget.
