She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 147: Chapter 147: The Clothes Are Too Good

“Great!” Shen Luhua’s eyes became slightly moist with excitement, and her hands shook uncontrollably as she tore open the letter.

Sheng An was about to tease her mother with a quick comment, but seeing her mother like this, he swallowed his words.

Upon opening the envelope, he found an article written in flowing script with a fountain pen.

It began, “Dad, Mom, An’an,” including all three of them.

Sheng Laosan nodded satisfactorily, pleased that his daughter hadn’t forgotten him, showing a conscience.

Dad, Mom, An’an, may you be well!

...

How is your health? How is the bean sprout business? The weather is getting colder, remember to take care of yourselves and not be too frugal in life, eat what you should eat, drink what you should drink! Don’t be stingy when you’ve earned some money, An’an, remember to buy yourself a pretty piece of clothing.

I am doing well at the General Union, and now the General Union Dance Troupe is undergoing arduous training with the War Wolf Rescue Team. I will actively train myself and not let Daddy down. I strive to become a person of honor.

The welfare at the War Wolf Rescue Team is even better than our Song and Dance Troupe; the clothes in the package are all issued. The fine overcoat is for Dad to wear in the winter to keep warm.

The small one is for Mom, and there is also a coat for An’an…

Sheng Ning detailed everything in the letter, and even Sheng An’s eyes reddened by the end.

Shen Luhua repeatedly said, “The General Union is really a great place for nurturing people, sending Ningning there was truly worth it.”

“That’s true!” Sheng An agreed, “Just look at Xu Xianxiong’s son becoming a Captain, it shows how much one can be molded there.”

“What about Xu Xianxiong? You think you can just casually call out an elder’s name like that?” Sheng Laosan frowned in disapproval.

“It’s just like Zuo Qinglong, Right White Tiger ah! If they are not bandits, they are scoundrels. They say ‘Like father, like son,’ his son might be even more formidable than him. If such a person can become a Captain, maybe my sister can even become President someday.”

“You impudent girl, spouting nonsense, be careful I give you a beating,” Shen Luhua scolded alongside.

She must be the most feeble and least liked daughter in the whole county. Sheng An stuck out her tongue and bent down to unwrap the package.

Brand new black overcoats, as well as women’s casual wear. Wearing such an outfit on the streets in the 1980s, even if standing in Tiananmen Square, would be a status symbol.

“Such nice clothes, too valuable, your sister shouldn’t have sent them,” Sheng Laosan said apprehensively.

“Yes! She even sent two pieces, the other small one must be for her friend, right?”

Sheng Ning had also casually mentioned Chen Huaying in the letter, and the family had developed a fond impression of this daughter they hadn’t yet met.

“If sister sent them, then you should wear them without worry,” Sheng An said gleefully, holding up her own clothes and comparing them against herself.

They were the perfect size; Sheng Ning really had an eye for this.

Before, she would call Sheng Ning by name right to her face, but since the last time they returned, the parents, as if under a spell, insisted she call her ‘sister.’

Isolated and unsupported, Sheng An quickly changed her wording.

“That’s not okay either!” Sheng Laosan, ever the honest and sincere man, felt uneasy wearing such nice clothes.

“What’s the problem with that? You want to return it? Do you know how heartbroken Sister would be? It’s a joyous occasion for any family to have a union garment to wear.”

Sheng Laosan stubbornly said, “In my day, when I was on the battlefield, what kinds of clothes haven’t I seen. Not just clothes, but even planes and cannons I’ve handled…”

When Sheng Laosan talked about the old days, he always did so with enthusiasm. Shen Luhua watched with a smile, while Sheng An secretly hid the clothes, lest Dad become fixated and change his mind.

If he really won’t let her wear them, whom can she reason with?
