Chapter 514: Chapter 245: Gaining Another Retainer, Hope for Eighth-Grade Promotion

Cloud Mountain.

In the Council Hall.

The Cao Clan Leader sat at the head, worry written all over his face:

”The scouts have reported back.”

”The beast tide surged out from the Ten Thousand Mountains, covering the sky and land. It already reached the fief of Yunshan County over an hour ago. At this rate, it will likely reach our Cloud Mountain in less than half an hour. The scale of this beast tide outbreak is far greater than the previous Tai Chi Locust Tide. Do you all think this Primordial Celestial Array of the Lin Family can withstand this tide?”

Third Elder Cao pondered for a moment then said;

”Patriarch, I have practiced with the Primordial Celestial Array, and it should not be a problem to fend off Tier Two Demon Beasts, as long as no Tier Three Demon Kings appear.”

Upon hearing this, Cao Xueyang rolled his eyes inwardly and shook his head, saying:

”Uncle, during the outbreak of the Tai Chi Locust Tide, there was no Tier Three Insect King either, yet our Clan’s Mountain Protection Array was broken just the same. In my view, there are too many unstable factors. We should take the chance to escape before the beast tide arrives and get as far away as possible.”

Third Elder Cao was rebuffed.

A trace of displeasure flashed between his brows.

In a cold voice, he said:

”With the outbreak of the beast tide, the whole South Huai Prefecture will be affected. Where exactly do you think we can escape to that’s absolutely safe?”

At this question.

Cao Xueyang had long thought of a response.

Smiling, he said:

”Of course, to Celestial Dragon City of the nearby Shangguan Family.”

”At our speed, we can be there in less than half an hour. The Shangguan Family is an Eighth-Grade Noble Family, with Shangguan Feng and his daughter at Half-Step Purple Mansion. Besides, most of their battle power is stationed at Celestial Dragon City. In recent years, they have also learned from the Fu Family to fortify their walls. Once inside, won’t it be much safer than staying here in the broken Lin Family’s place?”

”Moreover,”

”In the face of a beast tide, I believe the Shangguan Family would not turn away Foundation Establishment battle power that comes to their door.”

The truth of his words couldn’t be denied.

Third Elder Cao couldn’t say anything in response.

He seemed a bit tempted as well.

But Cao Xuerui, who had been silent, couldn’t hold back any longer at this point.

He shook his head and interrupted:

”Fourth Brother, you haven’t forgotten, have you? We currently occupy the fief of a subordinate family of the Shangguan Family. The Shangguan Family might open their gates for us, but once the beast tide subsides, they’d likely come for retribution.”

That would be walking right into a trap.

Upon hearing this, Third Elder Cao blinked, realizing he was almost swayed by Cao Xueyang, and upon hearing Cao Xuerui’s explanation, he shot a glare at Cao Xueyang.

Signaling for Cao Xuerui to continue.

Cao Xuerui said:

”Additionally,”

”If we four leave, what about the clansmen left behind? Do we just stand back and watch as they are devoured by demon beasts?”

”When we first took control of the Lin Family,”

”Our original intention was to provide our clansmen a stable place, a spirit vein of their own in the future. Leaving now would go against our original intention.”

The Cao Clan Leader nodded repeatedly.

Seeing his son was about to argue, he immediately glared:

”Sixth’s analysis is spot on. We’ll do as Sixth says. Send the order, come what may, today we must defend Cloud Mountain.”

The Cao Clan Leader immediately rose and headed for the Array Hall, with Third Elder Cao and Cao Xuerui following closely behind, while Cao Xueyang remained seated.

Through gritted teeth, he said:

”One by one, their brains are being squeezed by doors. It’s just a Tier Two Spirit Vein; we can always snatch it back if we lose it. What bullshit clansmen, are they more important than one’s own life?”

If the Shangguan Family isn’t a good host,

Then they’ll head north, to the Nangong Family instead.

Cao Xueyang cursed for a while but had no choice but to follow.

The four sat cross-legged on the Central Array Platform of the Primordial Celestial Array, the rest of the Qi Cultivators of the Cao Family forming teams to guard various array hubs.

The entire Cloud Mountain was eerily silent.

Only the sound of each other’s breathing seemed to fill the air.

”It’s here!”

After about half an hour.

A surging black cloud appeared on the horizon, a heavy oppressive atmosphere spreading. The beast tide roared forward like tumultuous waves.

The first to catch their eye was a group of Flame Demon Wolves, massive in size, with fur like burning flames. They opened their gaping maws and spat torrents of fire, fire that seemed almost alive, roaring toward the Mountain Protection Array, and where it passed, the very air seemed to scorch and distort.

Seeing this, the Cao Clan Leader.

Formed hand seals, muttering incantations under his breath.

He struck a technique onto the array platform.

With a buzzing sound!

The originally flickering runes on the array platform glowed even brighter, and a faint golden light curtain appeared in the array formation.

The flames collided with it.

Making crackling sounds.

The light curtain stood as firm as a mountain.

Third Elder Cao, eyes lighting up with joy:

”Patriarch, it seems this Primordial Celestial Array is even more formidable than expected; we can surely defend Cloud Mountain.”

Previously the Clan Mountain was broken by the Tai Chi Locust Tide.

Merely due to an internal mishap in the array.

For a moment.

The confidence of the four members of the Cao Family surged.

Simultaneously.

The Ice Soul Xuan Snakes, covered entirely in crystalline scales, attacked one after another. They twisted their massive bodies, spitting out countless sharp ice spikes. These spikes condensed the surrounding moisture in their flight, becoming harder and sharper, forming a rain of ice arrows directed at the Mountain Protection Array.

”Hmph, a trifling trick.”

The Cao Clan Leader skillfully changed his technique, channeling mana onto the array platform.

With a light tremor and buzz.

From the originally golden light shield, numerous spinning spiritual power shields emerged, like mini tornadoes, pulling the ice spikes into them, shattering the spikes into fragments and letting them scatter as bits of ice.

The variety of demon beasts rushing in was increasing.

Cao Xuerui hurriedly reminded Third Elder Cao beside him:
