Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1790: Chapter 1785: An Unexpected Person in Charge

Trust is indeed moving, but it’s hard to avoid holding some beautiful fantasies, isn’t it?

Chief Yuan’s reaction was not unexpected at all to Fu Qian.

The meteor shower crashing directly into the Academy, wasn’t he surprised when he saw it himself?

Perhaps there’s no doubt that he did see the rag doll in Xi Yuan, and Corin’s attitude towards Wen Li seemed quite special.

But the first to rush to Shangjing for probing was another mysterious Second Phase.

Even the subsequent tracking markers ended up in a place seemingly unrelated to anything.

It was normal for Yuan Shan, who psychologically hoped that there weren’t any major issues within the Night Watchman, to start having slightly optimistic fantasies about the situation.

For example, maybe Corin was indeed involved in the Xi Yuan affair, but there might be some hidden truths.

In fact, even having experienced almost all of these events firsthand, he couldn’t provide absolute proof to refute such speculation at the moment.

”Yes, it matters.”

Fu Qian nodded without hesitation.

Why deny it?

Even if Chief Yuan held a bit of a beautiful fantasy, would it affect her subsequent actions?

”... But you still can’t prove it?”

”Need to?”

...

With just a question and an answer, Yuan Shan fell silent for a moment.

”You’re right, it really isn’t necessary.”

But soon, she patted her head, truly helplessly shaking it.

”Before she’s completely proven innocent, nothing I need to do will change.”

Although showing a face of distress, Chief Yuan still demonstrated a broad-mindedness, honestly summarizing her own situation.

This is the advantage of dealing with smart people, you don’t have to exert much effort to analyze gains and losses.

The reason why Chief Yuan’s beautiful fantasy does not affect the situation is also simple—

She hopes that Needle Witch Corin didn’t do anything intolerable to the organization, but can she bet on that?

No matter the probability, as long as it can’t be completely negated, the only thing Yuan Shan can do is to go against her will, assuming Corin did all this, to investigate and maneuver.

Because if you don’t do it, the other side would.

If Corin indeed did these things, the previous probing obviously won’t be the end; subsequent every move will undoubtedly be continuously scrutinized, such as the response to this meteor shower.

Once a chain of suspicion is formed, it’s not easy to remove it.

Even if self-hypnotized into an innocent girl, firmly believing there’s no problem with her colleagues, and really doing things based on this foundation, would the other side believe it?

Would you accept such a pair of prying eyes beside you, always interpreting your every move, and potentially taking lethal action when sensing a ”threat”?

The only way to counter when the thing started is to prove Corin’s innocence.

If successful, everyone is happy; if failed, it’s life and death.

”Sigh... I’ll find an opportunity to confirm with the teacher about this angelic belief, see if he knows anything.”

”The Night Watchman is still very serious about the incident, assistance in the investigation should proceed very soon.”

At this moment, the resigned Yuan Shan was already considering the subsequent action plan, pointing at the insignia and feather.

Even seriously examining them one last time while speaking, from the point of contact with her fingers, blackness spread, and in the blink of an eye, they turned to ashes.

Once a plan of action is confirmed, her execution is also extremely strong.

Things that are easily exposed like this, after being viewed, obviously don’t need to be kept.

”Will you participate in this process?”

Watching this scene, Fu Qian casually confirmed.

”Yes, after all, the switch for the meteor was pushed by us. If it indeed is the worst case, then the Needle Witch must be observing the follow-up. If I don’t participate, it would cause suspicion, although the way I participate might be somewhat unique...”

Staring at Fu Qian, Yuan Shan, whose face had been frowning, suddenly broke into a smile.

”Do you know who the Night Watchman assigned to take charge of this matter?”

Oh?

Yuan Shan’s sudden change of expression inevitably made one feel uneasy.

And the subsequent question was rather ambiguous.

Fu Qian’s brows furrowed in response.

”Su Gao?”

...

”Smart.”

Yuan Shan laughed quite happily, as if she wished to award Fu Qian.

”To clarify beforehand, this was not my suggestion, the decision was made by the time I learned about it.”

”Mainly that child’s recent efficiency is really too high, the people at the headquarters perhaps want to slow down the distribution of bonuses.”

Her first action was to clear her involvement in it.

Even the reasons seemed real and believable. Considering Su Gao the Demigod’s dedication, fleeing supernaturals, most likely really couldn’t withstand the slaughter.

”Frankly, if I had a choice, I’d definitely not want it to be her.”

After having scared Fu Qian, Yuan Shan also sighed with a serious tone.

”Su Gao’s good relationship with me is no secret; getting involved almost certainly would include my will in it, even if I haven’t yet disclosed the true cause of the meteor.”

Indeed.

Chief Yuan’s awareness has no issue whatsoever.

Assigning a powerful demigod first is definitely a display of the Night Watchman’s seriousness, no doubt.

But if there really is a pair of eyes like Corin staring at it behind the scenes, this personnel assignment is somewhat intriguing.

Following the principle of rather wrong than let go, Su Gao would undoubtedly immediately be categorized into this side’s camp, enjoying the same treatment as Chief Yuan and himself.

And although essentially boosting her side’s strength, understanding Yuan Shan’s character, she most likely still wouldn’t want to profit by risking Su Gao.

”Rest assured, I fully believe in your innocence in this matter, so what’s the next plan?”

While pondering, Fu Qian waved his hand to indicate not to worry about misunderstandings, confirming the plan’s details.

For Yuan Shan, figuring out the origins of the Prison Angel Commander and related matters surely is necessary, and there’s no need to hide such intent.

But having suddenly gained such a capable ”ally,” adjusting the plan isn’t surprising.

Heh heh...

”Su Gao was still on a mission when she received the summons, and isn’t even that far from Shangjing...”

Just as expected, the next moment, Yuan Shan put on a rather sly smile.

”Hmm?”

”I am preparing to contact the Council, stating I was attacked not long ago, and the opponent showed power manifestations similar to feather.”

”Reasonable, otherwise it would seem timid.”

”But once reported, it clearly requires some level of participation in the investigation, otherwise it’s peculiar.”

”Makes sense.”

”But if I go in person, it may seem somewhat overreactive, and the Council isn’t foolish, the details of previous conflicts probably won’t be concealed.”

”Understood, including the credit I had in it.”

”Right.”

With such honest advice, Chief Yuan’s smile became even more radiant.

”So is it possible for me to remain stationed in Shangjing while entrusting a professional advisor, also an old acquaintance of Su Gao’s, to help her investigate this matter?”

Clearly, the previous stance was still conservative.

Not in the least surprised by Yuan Shan’s final idea, Fu Qian only shook his head.

This time at the Academy, it was truly lively.
