Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1407: Chapter 1405: Calamity Strikes (20)

The road is long and arduous, but only a determined will can move forward courageously.

In response to the pondering Fu Qian, who had finally shown some understanding after repeated efforts, Riet maintained an extremely serious expression, trying not to reveal any weakness or hesitation.

Unfortunately, her overly intense heartbeat was audible in the silence, even to the ordinarily composed Fu Qian.

Yet, he seemed not to have developed any contempt due to this; instead, he felt that unwavering determination even more deeply.

“Interesting! I can only say that even Veil doesn’t seem to truly understand her sister…”

When Fu Qian spoke again, his gaze finally changed, giving a slight nod.

In the meantime, using the person whom the young lady cared about the most as endorsement for his approval, without giving any indication of it, was essential.

“If you fuel your persistence to its utmost, perhaps we can truly surprise her.”

For the first time since their acquaintance, and even for the first time since just now, Venerable Fu gave Riet a commendation.

…

“What is the price I need to pay…?”

It is said that when most people finally have what they have been striving for in life placed in front of them, their first reaction is often hesitation.

It certainly seemed that way.

Having finally gained recognition, Riet could even hear her heart beating more fiercely. However, instead of immediately asking about the matter of faith, she remembered something, looking at Fu Qian with a somewhat complex expression.

Oh?

Fu Qian squinted his eyes and scrutinized Riet up and down.

In this situation, that kind of gaze undoubtedly had significant psychological penetration.

Even if she seemed to have made a firm decision, goosebumps appeared wherever his gaze rested on Riet.

However, determination was not made in vain. In the end, she met the scrutiny courageously.

“It’s very simple, just don’t do what you did earlier.”

However, the condition the other party finally proposed at that moment made it instantly challenging for her to remain firm, sounding almost like her brain was deprived of oxygen.

“What I did earlier… Do you mean…”

“Of course, it’s not just about disturbing people in the middle of the night; as an adult, you must learn to respect others’ goodwill.”

Fu Qian wore a meaningful expression, one that appeared elder-like.

“Even if that goodwill may add to your suffering, it is her goodwill, her freedom.”

“You may reject it but have no right to be angry.”

…

“It’s a bit abstract, you can remember it and understand it slowly. Specifically regarding today’s situation, you should not disturb others’ sleep, or, under mere assumptions, leave any embarrassment unaddressed, and also… wear your sister’s clothes without permission.”

Fu Qian gestured with his chin toward Riet.

For her height, the nightgown was clearly a bit too long, and there was even one she had just changed out of visible in the room.

“I hope before you went to your sister’s room, you didn’t visit other places based on some self-assured thoughts.”

…

The room returned to silence, and from Riet’s face turning pale and then blue, Fu Qian confirmed that his “hope” had evidently fallen through.

In this situation, although he wasn’t familiar with the genre of complex love, crafting a melodramatic plot was something Fu Qian could easily do—

After the Archipelago incident, Riet, who was saved by her sister again, felt ashamed of her own actions on one hand, and on the other, suspected that her sister had made a significant sacrifice for it, possibly remaining deceived by others.

In the dream she orchestrated, while residing at her family home once more, she decided to use herself as bait to reveal her true colors.

As for the nightgown, perhaps she thought it added an effect?

It was just unfortunate that when she was ready and reached her target, the room was already empty, prompting her to visit her sister instead.

And during their subsequent conversation, due to the overly stimulating topic, she temporarily forgot her original intention.

Only after entering a new stage did she recall her original intention with somewhat complex emotions.

Of course, regardless of whether there were any discrepancies, Fu Qian had no interest in confirming them.

The reason he was willing to talk so much was simply that he was just a little short of total control over the dream in front of him.

Fortunately, the current impact was already sufficient.

“Are you ready?”

In the next moment, he made a gesture.

…

Is this the next step? Are those truly the conditions?

The phantasmal eyes above Riet’s head flickered even more than before, clearly indicating a significant impact on her worldview.

More importantly, she did not dare to waste Venerable Fu’s time.

“Understood, please proceed.”

Taking a deep breath again, she forcibly cleared all distracting thoughts, her gaze resolute.

And almost simultaneously, a palm opened before her eyes.

A rough and simple yet solemn blood-red symbol was slowly emerging in the palm.

Just a glance almost provided an undeniable sense of oppression.

“Ancient Deities, Abandonment King, this is His emblem.”

At this moment, Fu Qian’s solemn proclamation resounded, followed by a rhythmic repetition of the esteemed name.

In fact, the emblem in the palm was the reason he had increased his control over the dream just now.

Earlier, all the improvisations, even making such changes, were not easy.

“Understood, I need to become His follower, remain firm as you mentioned just now, and thus beseech mercy and grace?”

Despite listening and remembering, Riet was unafraid, demonstrating her memory and comprehension.

“No… do not ask for mercy. It’s evident that your understanding of the concept of faith has been somewhat tainted by the Night Watchman.”

Unfortunately, her statement did not receive praise, and Fu Qian immediately sighed and shook his head.

“Your god does not love you; even a malevolent Demon does not hate you either. He merely needs your suffering and death.”

“What you need to believe in is solely contained in what I just said; He is the God presiding over Calamity, exalted and pure… and He shall bestow this will.”

…

Clearly, what Fu Qian mentioned was somewhat beyond the syllabus, causing Riet to fall into contemplation for a moment.

And Fu Qian showed remarkable patience, even returning to his seat.

The claim of pure faith was naturally his offhand fabrication.

If he truly intended to take the path of spiritual contamination and escape through faith symbols in the real world, it was naturally crucial to maintain utmost purity and prevent any anthropomorphic interference.

“I seem to understand a little.”

And Riet, too, did not disappoint, showing some comprehension after a not-too-long silence.

“Thank you for your guidance. I have remembered everything you said just now, and I will not slack off afterward.”

“Is that so?”

Regarding this determination, Fu Qian remained indifferent.

“Then draw an emblem for me to see first.”

…

Finding it somewhat unclear why she was being tested on such a simple matter, Riet conducted herself honestly nonetheless.

Quickly finding a piece of paper, she cautiously drew a design.

Indeed.

And even before it was handed over for review, Fu Qian heaved a long sigh inwardly—the pattern on the paper bore no resemblance to the emblem of the Abandonment King.

The awakening degree of the higher existence, Alarakir, was likely more profound than Brother Interlocutor imagined.
