Dao of the World Walker (Xianxia) Book 2

Shifu - Master

Shixiong - Older male fellow disciple of the same master.

Shidi - Younger male fellow disciple of the same master.

Shijie - Older female fellow disciple of the same master.

Shimei - Younger female fellow disciple of the same master.

”Did you all walk here?” came Senior Brother Zhen Hao’s mocking voice.

”We flew here. Not everyone likes being launched like a cannonball, Brother Zhen Hao,” Senior Brother Lin Yi replied calmly.

They all made their way into the city with Senior Brother Xu Kai guiding them. There were quite a lot of mortals who greeted them as they walked after recognizing the sect robes.

Yang had always appreciated how the mortals of White Cloud City showed regard rather than fear towards the members of the sect.

Yang believed it said more about the conduct of White Cloud Sect than any amount of praising words from a member of the sect or another cultivator could say.

They made their way through the streets and soon reached a restaurant. It was rather rusty compared to the one where Senior Brother Zhen Hao’s banquet was held.

It was at the corner of the street with four floors and large windows allowing the customers to look at the busy street while eating.

”My lords and ladies, come in, come in,” a host invited them in.

As Yang got in, he noticed a few tables filled with other sect members and most others with mortals, wealthy mortals from what he could guess from their clothes.

”We want a private room,” Senior Brother Xu Kai told the man, and he led them three flights of stairs to the very top.

The interiors got more and more luxurious as they reached the highest floor, and the man led them towards a corner room.

”Is it to the lords and ladies’ satisfaction?” the man asked.

”Thank you, this will do,” Senior Brother Xu Kai said, passing a gold coin to the man.

The man took the gold in his hand, his smile widening. ”Please take your seats, esteemed guests. I will have my best waiter sent to serve you,” he said, bowing as he left the room, closing the door behind him.

Yang looked around the room as he settled in next to Senior Brother Lin Yi. The room was quite large and could probably accommodate more than twice their number. Due to being the corner room, they had two large balconies opening onto the streets.

Everything in this room screamed luxury and was of the highest quality. Just not magical.

Before they could all properly settle in, Senior Brother Jiang Zhen Hao began, ”Lin Yi, give me the bone shrinking...”

”No, don’t,” interrupted Senior Sister Shen Yue.

Yang could also see Senior Brother Xu Kai subtly shaking his head at Senior Brother Lin Yi.

”Why not, Sister Shen Yue? It’s just a pill. We are all close friends. Can we not even ask friends for small favors?” came Senior Sister Xing Fei’s very understanding voice. Yang would think she was voicing her support for Senior Brother Zhen Hao, but he could see in her eyes that she just wanted to watch the fireworks.

Senior Sister Shen Yue gave Senior Sister Xing Fei a glare, and Senior Brother Xu Kai just sighed deeply as his shoulders slightly slouched.

Everyone was looking at Senior Brother Lin Yi, waiting for his answer. He simply looked boredly at Senior Brother Zhen Hao. ”No.”

”What do you mean, no? Are we not friends? Can you not give me this little thing?”

”I am very well aware of the extent to which you can go with these little things, so no, Zhen Hao. I am not giving it to you.” Senior Brother Lin Yi said before adding, ”Isn’t one of your shixiong a high-level alchemist? Ask him. He could make a thousand times better one for you.”

”Yes, why don’t you ask your shixiong?” came Senior Sister Shen Yue’s curious voice, and now they all turned to stare at him.

Senior Brother Zhen Hao looked at them angrily, refusing to say anything, before Senior Brother Xu Kai said, ”Zhen Hao’s eldest shixiong has been keeping him on a rather short leash recently.”

At the word of Zhen Hao’s shixiong, Yang got goosebumps. Even if that senior isn’t here to drill holes into my head, his presence won’t leave me alone. He forcefully pushed the thought of that senior away, scared he would appear if he thought too much about him, and turned to watch Senior Brother Zhen Hao go through his numerous grievances.

”Xiao Zhan shixiong has been making my life a living hell. All my allowances and purchases have to be approved by him,” Senior Brother Zhen Hao cried out. ”Even my other shixiong and Shifu dare not go against him.”

”Good. Maybe Senior Brother Xiao Zhan can keep your shenanigans to a minimum,” said Senior Sister Shen Yue.

”Bah, what shenanigans? I just know how to enjoy life. Only my master cares about me,” Senior Brother Zhen Hao said.

The rest of them just rolled their eyes at Senior Brother Zhen Hao’s difficult life. They sat quietly while Senior Brother Jiang Zhen Hao aired his grievances against his shixiong, who bullied him, his friends who didn’t trust him, and the whole world, which was out to wrong him.

If one were to believe him, he was the most wronged person in the history of this world.

Yang was quietly contemplating how long they would have to listen to this when Senior Brother Liu Te entered, guided by the same man.

He settled down in front of Yang on the opposite side, next to Senior Sister Xing Fei.

”What is going on?” he asked, turning to Senior Brother Lin Yi. ”I could hear Zhen Hao’s wailing from one floor down.”

”Don’t ask.”

”Enough. We are here to celebrate Lin Yi and Liu Te, not to hear about the injustices done to you,” Senior Sister Shen Yue said.

To his credit, Senior Brother Zhen Hao’s expression changed into one of happiness before Yang could even blink.

”Of course, of course. We are here to celebrate two dear friends,” he said, gesturing towards Senior Brother Lin Yi and Liu Te.

”Let’s order first,” said Senior Sister Xing Fei as she rang a small bell on the table. Soon, within a minute, a waiter appeared.

”Lords and ladies, what would you like?”

It was Senior Sister Xing Fei who placed the order for all of them, with others adding things in between.

”Junior Brother Yang, tell me what you want as well,” Senior Sister Xing Fei turned to Yang, seeing that he was not adding anything.

”I don’t know any of the dishes, Senior Sister. I will trust you on this,” Yang replied.

”Very well, then I must add a few more dishes so you can form an opinion on what you like,” and she added three or four more dishes.

When it came to wine, it was Senior Brother Zhen Hao who ordered and was going to order more before Senior Brother Xu Kai put a stop to it.

Senior Brother just rolled his eyes as he said, ”It’s not like it will get us anything more than mildly buzzed. It’s a mortal restaurant,” but still did not order any more.

”I will get the dishes prepared to perfection and have them delivered,” then the waiter left the room after giving a bow.

Suddenly, Senior Brother Liu Te turned to him.

”Did you enjoy the competition, Junior Brother?”

”I did. It was educational seeing the difference in capabilities of different levels of cultivation,” Yang admitted.

”Indeed. Wait till you see what the Golden Core competitors are capable of, especially the late-stage ones,” Senior Brother Liu Te added a bit wistfully.

”Now, before anything, I wanted to tell you that you must not just swallow all the pills. Lin Yi has told me you are sensible, but I wouldn’t want to risk it either way.” Senior Brother Liu Te was about to speak more when Yang interrupted him.

”Senior Brother, are you sure you want me to keep the pills? The judges looked surprised at it, and it gave you second position. Surely it’s precious,” Yang asked.

”Yes, actually, why were the judges surprised?” came from Senior Sister Xing Fei.

It was Senior Brother Lin Yi who answered. ”Because it’s one of the most difficult pills one can refine in the Foundation Establishment realm. It took almost twice the ingredients of my own pill. I wouldn’t have managed it if I were to try. Liu Te would have been first if the Lightning Qi Pill hadn’t been introduced.”

Now even the others looked shocked. Senior Brother Liu Te still held his calm expression as he said, ”The pill, when sold, is precious because it takes a great deal of skill to make, and there are few alchemists selling it. Mostly because, in the time one set of Molten Body Pills is created, or with the amount of ingredients it needs, one can make two or more types of pills and make a greater profit. Alchemists mostly make it for their own people rather than to sell it.” He looked around as he added, ”It was just to show off my skills. It’s just not worth the effort and ingredients to make this pill. I am too young for a disciple and have no shidi. And neither can any of you use it. Except Junior Brother Yang.”

He then turned to Yang. ”Does that answer your question, Junior Brother? It’s of no use to me. I’d rather see its effect on you. I have been working on it for months, and I think it would be worth it to see the result of my hard work.”

Yang gave a bow before he again thanked him.

”Now, before I get interrupted again,” Senior Brother said as he took out a few handwritten pages from his storage and passed the papers to Yang. ”These are my notes on the effects of the pill. You must thoroughly read them before taking them. I would also like you to make notes of how you feel and what effects you notice from the pill as well.” Yang readily agreed.

”Remember, one pill in one minor realm. You can take one in your current second-stage Qi Condensation realm, but the next one has to be after you advance.” Senior Brother Liu Te warned as Yang put the pages in his sleeve. ”Of course, Senior Brother, I will follow your instructions,” Yang agreed.

Senior Brother Liu Te just gave a nod and then turned to answer Senior Sister Xing Fei, who seemed to be looking to ask him a few questions about the Lightning Qi Pill.

From what Yang gathered, while the pill refinement formula was easy for a qi pill, working with the lightning element didn’t just show the participant’s luck but also his skill, since he managed to infuse the lightning qi into the pill. According to Senior Brother Liu Te, whether earned or acquired, the winner’s skills were his, and he won fair and square.

As they were all talking, the waiter knocked and entered carrying dishes and goblets with bottles of wine, and the discussion paused as they all got distracted by the feast.
